Chapter 61: Is Arlo Seys going to fire her?
CHAPTER 61: CHAPTER 61: IS ARLO SEYS GOING TO FIRE HER?
After returning to the office, he carefully recalled the events of the morning. Clearly, when President Seys came to inspect the HR department, everything was fine. As he reported on the department’s work to President Seys, he accompanied him to the elevator, and everything seemed normal and fine.
Although President Seys still had that usual ice-cold expressionless face, when he mentioned something wrong about the work, President Seys would leniently point it out. But as he repeatedly recalled President Seys’ expression, from the moment this little employee stepped into the elevator, President Seys’ face seemed to grow colder, and a chill emanated from his eyes.
So, he was sure that it was this little employee who had offended President Seys, and President Seys was taking it out on him, the HR manager!
Ariel Morris bit her lip and softly asked, "Was this President Seys’ decision? ... Did President Seys say he wanted to fire me?"
Rowen Liston paused and observed her expression, without answering.
He wanted to see if this little assistant really had a conflict with President Seys, trying to find clues from Ariel Morris’ face. Seeing her bite her lip, clearly struggling to control her emotions and asking him for an answer, Rowen was sure that this little assistant had indeed offended President Seys.
No wonder President Seys was furious! Recruitment was handled by the HR department, which meant that this little assistant whom President Seys disapproved of was hired by him. Who else was President Seys supposed to scold but him?
Ariel Morris looked at his silence, assuming he had acquiesced, lowered her eyes, and said in a dejected tone, "I understand." Then she turned and left the manager’s office.
The dismissed Ariel Morris entered the elevator, head down and spiritless.
In the elevator, she stood with her back against the elevator wall, eyes full of despair.
Did Arlo Seys really not want to see her? Afraid she’d cling on, so he had the HR department fire her.
It turns out starting anew is really difficult.
She no longer had the tenacity of her youth to persistently pursue, and Arlo Seys was no longer the person he used to be in their youth. He had become more decisive and cold-hearted, intimidating.
Eight years had gradually widened the distance between them and diluted those past memories.
The elevator stopped, and Ariel Morris dazedly stepped out of the elevator.
"Miss Morris? What a coincidence! Where are you heading at this time?" Callan Walkers, holding some documents, was just about to enter the elevator and bumped into the despondent Ariel Morris.
Ariel Morris seemed not to hear, lowered her head, and walked out, feeling terribly down.
Callan Walkers shrugged in confusion watching her back, and then entered the elevator.
Ariel Morris left Era, wandering aimlessly down the street. Despite the bustling crowds, she felt very lonely and helpless, as if she was out of place with all the commotion.
From Northville to Southville, alone, she walked for hours without stopping, crossing several streets.
Finally, without realizing it, she arrived at her alma mater, Scenic Hill High School.
She stood at the school gate looking inside, seeing a class having a physical education class on the playground, the sports event was a race. The youthful and energetic faces, full of vitality, uplifted her despite her low spirits.
She told the guard at the gate that she was a former student of Scenic Hill, wanting to reminisce about the past. The guard did not stop her, only reminding her not to disturb the students in class before letting her through.
Ariel Morris walked towards the playground, watching the students running with all their effort, reminding her of old times, a warm smile appeared on her lips.
While Ariel Morris was immersed in the memories of the past, she heard someone shouting, "Hey, student, come over here! Help the teacher out."
Ariel Morris snapped back to reality and looked over to see the physical education teacher waving at her, and she curiously walked over.
"Teacher, are you calling me?"
