CHAPTER 70: CHAPTER 70 ARLO AND ARIEL IN THEIR YOUTH [1]
Ariel Morris thought to herself and quickly went upstairs with the bag. She knocked on Arlo Seys’ door, waiting for his response.
The answer she received was a silence as calm as water.
She looked at the door; just one door separated them, the lovers who had once been deeply in love with each other.
Ariel Morris felt a tightness in her throat, "Arlo, do you remember what I once said? I said Arlo Seys was the warmest ray of sunshine in Ariel Morris’s life. And now, I want to ask you something, something I asked you before. Arlo Seys, do you regret ever knowing Ariel Morris, and were you truly happy during those times we were together?"
Inside, Arlo Seys, who was holding a goblet and drinking wine, heard this question. His grip on the goblet suddenly tightened, his knuckles turning a bit white.
Arlo Seys brought the wine to his lips and drank it all at once, not answering Ariel Morris’s question.
Outside the door, Ariel Morris’s voice came again, carrying a hint of hoarseness.
"Arlo, since the first day we met, I’ve wanted to ask you, how have you been these eight years?"
Inside, Arlo Seys laughed coldly and replied in a deep voice, "I’m doing well."
Your abrupt departure created the unyielding Arlo Seys of today. So now, I’m doing well. Invincible, indifferent to everything.
Ariel Morris leaned against the door, a faint smile slightly curling her lips, yet it carried a bitter flavor. She steadied her aching heart and spoke heavily, "Well, I’m doing well too."
I smile alone, wandering alone in a foreign land, yet always carrying an unshakeable concern in my heart. That feeling, like being a walking corpse, has numbed me. But knowing that you are doing well now, I can be at peace, so then I too am well.
"Arlo, we’re both doing well, and that’s good."
"Arlo, thank you for the clothes you bought me, thank you for taking me in today."
Holding the things Arlo Seys bought for her in her arms, Ariel Morris warmly smiled, "Looking back at the youthful times we spent together, I suddenly feel a real sense of nostalgia. Back then, we were even the top match on the Campus Couples Ranking."
But unfortunately, as time passed, they couldn’t reach the end together.
Ariel Morris softly spoke outside the door, and as she spoke, her thoughts drifted back to that year. Drifted back to the rainy season when she was sixteen, together with Arlo Seys.
---------Memory Divider, Eight Years Ago: Arlo and Ariel----------
Everyone knew there were two most famous high schools in City C, one was Virtue High School, and the other was Scenic Hill High School.
Virtue High School had strong faculty and was a noble private school with pure Western-style teaching. Those attending were either the rich second generation or official second generation. Meanwhile, Scenic Hill was a century-old school in City C with excellent teaching, fostering many elite talents for society.
In the first year of Virtue High School, the Morris Family couple used all their connections to get a spot for enrollment. But since there were two daughters in the family, the couple called Ariel Morris and Scarlett Morris to the living room to discuss who should attend Virtue High School.
The 16-year-old Ariel Morris sat in the living room, looking at her parents in front of her, father Damien Morris and mother Laura Pinley, and made a choice with a slight smile, "Let my sister go to Virtue High School then. I’ll go to Scenic Hill High School."
Damien Morris’s face showed a bit of hesitation, "Ariel, there’s only one spot, well..."
On the other end of the sofa, Scarlett Morris glanced at Ariel Morris and said coldly, "Of course I should go! Virtue is a noble school for the upper-class society’s children. Just being able to attend Virtue means being a notch higher in status!"
