Chapter 30 - 11: Regret Meeting Late
CHAPTER 30: CHAPTER 11: REGRET MEETING LATE
In the evening, when Su Wan returned to the dormitory, she was in a great mood and brought back three pieces of fried chicken for Xu Chengyang.
Xu Chengyang stared at the three greasy, plump pieces of fried chicken, swallowed, and looked surprised: "Buy one, get two free today?"
Su Wan hummed a little tune, pulled out a chair to sit down, opened her laptop, and said with a broad smile, "You’re so skinny, eat more."
Xu Chengyang turned his head and exchanged a glance with Yao Ye: "Why do I feel like that smile is so creepy...?"
Yao Ye broke off a chicken leg, took a big bite, and said, "Our Wanwan has always been a smiling tiger, hasn’t she?" She sat back in her chair, unconcerned, "Anyway, I wasn’t the one who upset her this afternoon."
Xu Chengyang shot Yao Ye a fierce glare, then eagerly sat next to Su Wan, laughingly asked, "Wanwan, what’s making you so happy?"
Su Wan stared at the computer and didn’t budge: "Rich or poor, enjoy life; not smiling is foolish."
Xu Chengyang furrowed his brows and thought for a long time, puzzled: "What does that mean?"
Yao Ye chewed her chicken, swallowed, and without turning her head, said: "It means you’re a big fool."
Xu Chengyang: "..."
The next afternoon, Su Wan went to the music room in the department as usual to practice. Xu Chengyang carried a violin and opened the wooden door to the practice room, sitting down next to Su Wan, looking aggrieved.
Su Wan flipped through the sheet music, looking at Xu Chengyang’s frown-twisted face, asked: "What’s wrong?"
Xu Chengyang pouted and then suddenly let out a loud wail: "Wanwan, you have to help me! Wanwan! Boohoo..."
Su Wan: "..."
Xu Chengyang grabbed Su Wan with his bow and hands, looking pitiful: "Old Charlie said my performance at last semester’s school report was too messy. He wants me to prepare a program for this year’s New Year’s Eve party, or else I won’t graduate! Boohoo... you have to help me."
Su Wan patted Xu Chengyang’s head, her tone gentle: "Hmm, so? What do you need me to help with?"
Xu Chengyang jumped up from his chair, beaming: "Let’s find two more people and do a ’G Major String Serenade,’ how about that?"
"Mozart?"
"Bingo!"
"Sounds good, it should turn out quite well."
Xu Chengyang was energized: "I’ll go find a second violin and a viola from the next class! Let’s do a quartet!" In high spirits, she drew two lines of the serenade melody on her violin and suddenly remembered, "Oh right, Wanwan! Old Charlie asked you to go to the office!"
...
The music room and the department chair’s office were separated by a building, and Su Wan jogged over, panting as she knocked on the ajar door.
"Come in!" Director Charlie’s distinctive raspy voice came from inside.
Su Wan pushed the door open: "Mr. Charlie."
"Oh! Swan, long time no see!" Old Charlie stood up, about one meter seventy or so, chubby, with a kind and friendly smile. He was wearing a white shirt with a neatly tied bow tie at the collar, making him look absolutely adorable.
Su Wan was a straightforward girl: "Didn’t we just meet the day before yesterday..."
"Wanwan, how was your interview for joining the group? Success?" Old Charlie personally poured her a glass of water and asked with concern.
"Yes, very successful!" Without Old Charlie’s recommendation, she couldn’t have successfully joined the group, so she quickly thanked him, "MR.Charlie, thank you very much."
"No need to be so polite, I just pulled a small..." Old Charlie’s Chinese wasn’t very fluent, and after a while, he remembered a phrase, "You Chinese seem to say... backdoor? Yes, that’s right, backdoor!"
Su Wan: "..." Still, she had to thank him.
"Swan, H&Y is having a concert at our school next week, do you know?" Old Charlie sat back in his chair and took a sip of coffee.
"Mr. Fu mentioned it to me." Su Wan thought for a moment, puzzled, "Why is Heng Yan suddenly holding a concert at our school?"
The smile in Old Charlie’s eyes deepened, and he looked at Su Wan meaningfully: "Backdoor, such things, very good!"
Su Wan: "..."
She probably guessed it...
The desk phone rang, and Old Charlie smiled and asked Su Wan to wait a moment while he picked up the call.
A text message beeped onto Su Wan’s phone. When she opened it, it was from Fu Weiheng, two words: Where?
Su Wan’s fingers tapped on the keyboard as she replied: Director’s office.
After a while, the reply came: I’m coming over.
Su Wan stared at the screen for a long time, thinking the God must think she was getting a talking to? So he’s coming to help her with the backdoor?
Her fingers were tapping away on the phone, and before she could hit send, there were two knocks on the office door, and Fu Weiheng walked in.
Su Wan was amazed, such speed...
As soon as Old Charlie saw him, he wrapped up his phone call quickly to give Fu Weiheng a warm hug: "Oh Neil! I miss you so much!"
