CHAPTER 66: ROOM

*Crackle*

It was pouring.

Barely any visibility.

Monsoon hadn’t even arrived yet, so the chance of rain today was almost none. The sky had been so bright and blue in the morning that the thought of rain never even crossed his mind.

But as if fate was against him having a peaceful date, it was raining like crazy.

"Hah~ it’s such an unfortunate day," Emma sighed, her voice tinged with disappointment as they stood under the shed by the main building.

The campus was unusually quiet. Most students were relaxing in their dorms, while those who wanted to go out—like the two of them—had already returned. Forget walking in the rain, they could barely see a few meters ahead.

William groaned, "If I ever meet the rain god, I’m sure he’d have a handprint on his cheek."

Emma laughed softly, "You sound desperate to go on a date with me."

William scoffed, "I shouldn’t be hearing that from a girl who dressed up so nicely and came an hour earlier than we agreed."

His bluntness hit her like a splash of warm embarrassment. Her face flushed, and she quickly turned her gaze away.

They had both looked forward to this day. Yet, here they were—stuck under a shed, watching the rain blur everything.

William scratched his head with a helpless smile. "I made so many preparations... but it feels like someone’s deliberately trying to ruin things for us."

Emma’s heart softened at his frustration. For a moment, she realized she wasn’t the only one excited. She had spent hours going through her wardrobe, asking Dorothy to help with a bit of makeup, even trying a new hairstyle—thinking maybe she was just overdoing it.

But she was wrong. The way he had dressed, the way he came early, the way he stuttered when he complimented her—all of it showed he cared just as much.

"Hey, William," she called softly. "Since all we really wanted was to spend time together... why don’t we do that in my room?"

His eyes widened. "Wait, are you trying to get me expelled?"

Emma chuckled, "You didn’t hide last time, remember? But this time, I promise—no one will spot you."

William grinned faintly. "And what about your roommate?"

"I’ll ask her to stay with her friends for the time being," Emma said confidently. "Don’t worry, she won’t say a word."

With that, she raised a small barrier above her head and stepped into the rain. "Wait below my window," she said over her shoulder, her voice playful. "You know which one it is, right?"

William froze like an owl—his eyes wide and uncertain.

Did he know? ...Kind of. But saying that would make him sound like a stalker.

Emma giggled at his expression. "I’ll be waiting."

He watched her go, her steps light and full of excitement, and couldn’t help but smile.

’Haah... what am I doing?’ he thought, rubbing his neck. Not that he had ever peeked into her room, but after that ambush a while ago, he had kept watch around the dorms for a few nights—just to make sure she was safe.

Still, if he ever tried to explain that, she’d probably give him that *I understand, no need to explain* smile.

No one would believe his reason.

Crossing his arms, William sighed and started toward the dormitory building.

Raindrops slid past him but never touched him—the invisible hands of his telekinesis held the water away like a quiet umbrella.

There was no one around—no guards, no teachers, not even a passing student. The rain and thunder had cleared the grounds, leaving William completely alone beneath the soft glow of the dorm lights.

A faint creak broke the silence. He looked up to see a window on the second floor slowly sliding open, the wood groaning against the frame.

Emma’s face appeared, glowing with warmth despite the downpour. She leaned out slightly, smiling, and waved at him.

William smiled back and was just about to levitate when she suddenly held out both her hands, gesturing for him to stop.

He blinked in confusion. *Did her roommate not leave?*

Before he could ask her through telepathy, something unexpected happened.

"Huh?"

His eyes widened as he watched her throw down a makeshift rope—bedsheets knotted together. The sight made him let out a helpless chuckle.

He sighed and sent her a thought,

[Are you for real right now?]

Her expression turned playful, eyes soft yet pleading as she replied,

[Won’t you at least put in some effort to reach a girl’s room?]

William couldn’t help it—he almost laughed aloud. She could be so childish sometimes, yet that was exactly what made her so endearing.

Grabbing the sheet, he began to climb. His boots pressed against the wall, rainwater sliding down his shoulders as he rose higher.

When he finally reached her window, Emma was right there waiting for him—face flushed, eyes sparkling—with the kind of smile that made even the storm around them feel quiet.

"Who would’ve thought that the dignified and feared Emma had such a princess-like fantasy?" William teased, his voice laced with amusement.

Emma smiled sweetly, her tone light and honest. "I always wanted the first boy to enter my room to come in like this."

William raised a brow, half-grinning. "So... are you going to let me in before someone sees me, or do I just hang here for the view?"

With a flustered gasp, Emma quickly stepped aside, giving him room to climb in through the window.

As soon as he was safely inside, she tugged the makeshift rope back in and tossed it onto her bed.

William took a slow look around the room. It wasn’t much different from the one he used to stay in—two neatly made beds, matching cupboards, study tables lined with books and notes, a small kitchen tucked in the corner, and a single bathroom door to the side.

Simple. Clean. Comfortable.

"So? Is there anything in mind we can do here?" William asked with his hands on his hips.

Emma teasingly grinned, "Well, we can start from the bed."

"...." William just stared at her dumbfoundedly.

Emma giggled, walking towards the table she said, "I am just joking. Come-ah!" She was suddenly grabbed by her arm and pushed against the wall.

His left arm encircled her waist while his other one rested beside her face, pinning her in place completely.

His red eyes dripped with danger as he whispered with a growl, "Being confined inside the four walls with a man...you should be very mindful of what you ask for."

Emma wouldn’t lie. Her heart was currently beating like crazy and she could feel her face turning hotter with every breath.

Maybe for the first time Emma didn’t have a come back to his teasing as she just gazed at him with her eyes unblinking.

William’s brows went up as he asked, "What? Got nothing to say now?"

Emma softly whispered, "I love you."

"...." Now, it was William’s turn to become speechless.
