CHAPTER 63: SHOWING PROOF

"He doesn’t even have a job now, how is he going to pay it back? Not to mention, with just that little salary of his, it probably isn’t even enough to cover the interest."

This time, Nancy did not sit on the sidelines. Although it was said that the couple did not get along well after marriage, arguing every three to five days, ultimately, she could not just watch her husband be ganged up on.

Among the three sisters, the second was honest and dull, the third was quiet and introverted.

The eldest sister was like a mother and had inherited Mother In Law’s fierceness. Nancy’s mouth was not to be trifled with either.

She felt her husband’s judgment was reasonable. This live in son in law brother in law was penniless. Even though their second sister was a bit mediocre, the Wood Family was not a poor family.

Lily had only rebelled and been brave once in her life, crying, making a scene, and threatening suicide, insisting on marrying only Luis. Ruth loved this most obedient daughter dearly, which was why she allowed Luis into the family.

So Nancy also looked down on this brother in law. No matter how idle Daniel was, he had good parents and could mooch off them together with his wife. What qualification did Luis have?

The couple, for once, were in rare agreement, speaking in tandem, already convinced that this penniless guy must have borrowed from online loans and used credit cards to please his Mother In Law.

Looking at Nancy’s contemptuous gaze, Luis sneered and directly placed his phone in front of Ruth: "Mom, look as much as you want. Let Eldest Sister feel reassured."

Ruth opened the messages on the phone. The messages showed a 50,000 dollar withdrawal income, also after stock market taxes were deducted.

She was first stunned and asked, "Son in law, you withdrew so much money again? Is there some situation?"

"Just normal operations!"

Looking at the light in Mother In Law’s eyes, Luis said lightly, "Some stocks are about to start falling, so I need to cash out in time."

Lily said with a playful laugh, "Eldest Sister, you can rest assured about this much."

"Impossible, you must have forged the messages to deceive people."

Daniel was the first to not believe it.

Luis directly handed the phone to Nancy and said with a laugh, "If Eldest Sister doesn’t believe it, you can check. See if there is any record of borrowing even one cent."

"As for credit cards, you can also check if there are any related messages. I have never applied for a credit card."

Daniel and Nancy leaned their heads together and sneered, saying, "Keep being stubborn. Let’s see how you explain later."

Then, the couple started going through Luis’s phone. Luis didn’t care; any messages that needed to be deleted were already deleted. Switching between two different Whatsapp accounts, they wouldn’t find any trace.

After looking for a while, Nancy and Daniel looked at each other, full of unwillingness.

In the massive amount of messages, no matter how they searched, they couldn’t find any trace related to credit cards. The mobile banking app showed that under his name, there were only debit cards, no credit cards.

As for those common online loan function apps, when they opened them, they were even more despairing. Not only were there no loan records, many hadn’t even been applied for or activated. No matter how much they searched, there wasn’t even a single record of an online loan.

"Impossible, you’re a poor guy who didn’t even graduate from high school. What the hell do you know about stocks?"

"Mom, he must be deceiving you."

"That text message must be forged. Everyone else loses money playing the stock market, but he can actually make a profit. Does he really think he’s some gambling god? He has no education at all. Could he even understand those financial reports?"

Daniel was practically spitting with rage, his face twisting as he spoke.

He immediately opened the stock trading app, navigated with practiced ease to the personal account section, and then froze completely upon seeing what was displayed.

The account was under Luis’s name. Nancy, seeing his stunned, utterly dumbfounded expression—as if he’d just eaten shit—leaned in closer. "Honey, what are you doing? Couldn’t you find the withdrawal records?"

It wasn’t just her. Even Lily and Mother In Law Ruth had their curiosity piqued and couldn’t resist leaning in to look as well.

Even though none of them understood stock trading, they could all read. The interface clearly displayed a stock account under Luis’s name, and the current value of the held stocks was over 360,000 dollars.

"This... this can’t be a fake app, can it?" Nancy asked stubbornly, refusing to believe it.

Daniel was equally unwilling to accept it, but a quick check confirmed it was the genuine, official stock trading software. The look of shock on his face mirrored that of the mother and her two daughters.

"No need to worry now, right?" Luis had already snatched his phone back.

Looking at Daniel’s thoroughly shit eating expression, Luis felt an intense satisfaction. This slap to the face felt particularly good, especially seeing the expressions on the three women’s faces, which was even more entertaining.

Lily looked surprised and held a trace of admiration. Mother In Law Ruth was astonished yet approving. Sister in law Nancy’s expression was somewhat meaningful and also a little awkward.

The account truly did hold that much money. All the buying and selling were handled automatically by the System. In fact, Luis didn’t even know the password himself, which was why he could only access and use the funds after completing tasks.

"Wait, where did you get so much money? What are all those apps on your phone? You’re not involved in some kind of illegal activity, are you?"

Daniel couldn’t take it anymore, cursing his mother in law inwardly for being such a money grubbing person.

No wonder her attitude toward him was so poor now. Her true nature of despising the poor and currying favor with the rich was right there for all to see.

Luis, whom he had always suppressed and mocked, suddenly turning the tables was something Daniel found utterly unacceptable from the bottom of his heart. That formerly obedient, submissive poor guy was now a threat to his standing within the family.

Luis looked at him with an expression reserved for idiots. "Brother, those are all legitimate Microsoft and Google apps. They’re for things like futures, crude oil, index futures, and similar instruments. Just ask anyone studying finance, they’ll tell you."

"Oh, right, Brother, you don’t know this, so it’s perfectly normal that you wouldn’t understand them."

This statement even surprised Nancy a little. "You... since when do you know this?"

"Self taught. I’ve known it for a while now." Luis said, boasting without any fear now. The System had made everything foolproof, so it was naturally time to show off.

"See?" Ruth said with palpable pride. "Luis isn’t without money. He just chooses not to spend it on himself. Your brother in law is very skilled at making money and is also willing to learn. You should all try to learn from him."

Nancy’s confidence deflated instantly. Her gaze toward Luis became complex. "Mom, I was just worried about you, that’s all."

"Honey, when did you get so good?"

"You have to keep learning. What did you think I was doing all day, fiddling with my phone and computer?" The young couple whispered to each other. The usually timid Lily now stood a little straighter, a soft, charming smile on her face as she looked at her husband with eyes full of worship.

This loving and affectionate display made Nancy feel a twinge of envy, and her eyes gradually softened.

Seeing his wife’s attitude change as well, Daniel felt his pride and reputation were in tatters. Unwilling to concede, he adopted a condescending, elder’s tone. "Luis, even if you’ve managed to earn a little money now, you still shouldn’t spend it so recklessly."

He didn’t even need Luis to respond. Ruth, already switched into full protective mother mode, spoke first. "What? Spending money on his wife and his mother is considered reckless spending?"

Daniel immediately backpedaled, "Mom, that’s not what I meant. I’m saying buying these kinds of jewelry pieces is too impractical."
