CHAPTER 920: CHAPTER 279: HE JUMPED DOWN WITH HER (NEW STORY TEASER)
Mu Feng was observing Qin Qin, contemplating the relationship among the three of them, when a grim gaze shot towards him. Mu Feng looked up, startled, to find it was the man who had been following the two all along. That glare made his spine tingle, and he dared not look any longer, quickly withdrawing his gaze.
The night was deepening.
Qin Qin awoke from the cold. Lately, her body had started to become cold at night. Even without Mo Yunchen mentioning it, she understood her situation. It must be that her soul, as Qi Tianshang said, was starting to become incompatible with her body. Hence, Mo Yunchen was so eager to find the Soul Settling Stone to restore her to her former state.
Turning her head, under the flickering firelight, Qin Qin looked at Mo Yunchen, who was holding her tightly. As always, he embraced her in his arms, his hands clasped around hers, trying to provide her warmth.
"Fool!"
She couldn’t help but feel her eyes welling up as she murmured softly.
Mo Yunchen opened his eyes, those phoenix-like eyes staring at her intently, "I am not a fool."
Qin Qin said nothing, but nestled into Mo Yunchen’s embrace.
Her gaze suddenly went past Mo Yunchen and looked towards the depths of the cave. When everyone came in earlier, it was completely dark, and no one had paid attention to the depths of the cave. She too had only focused on that eerie lake and hadn’t noticed the inside of the cave. Now as she looked, the cave seemed quite long.
Her eyesight was good, but it was so dark inside that there wasn’t the slightest bit of light. She could only see about ten meters beyond herself, but she felt that ten meters away was not the deepest part of the cave. Her Sixth Sense seemed to be urging her to take a look.
"I want to see inside the cave."
Qin Qin lifted her head to look at Mo Yunchen, who was holding her. Mo Yunchen glanced inside the cave and nodded.
Mo Yunchen took Qin Qin’s hand and stood up. The two of them glanced at the sleeping Mu Feng and the others not far away and then noticed that Qi Tianshang, who should have been lying against the stone wall, was missing.
"Where did he go?"
"He went out!"
Mo Yunchen said in a calm voice while holding Qin Qin’s hand. Earlier, he had seen Qi Tianshang get up and leave, but he didn’t interfere because he knew what Qi Tianshang was up to.
At the onset of the night, when Qin Qin began to shiver, Qi Tianshang had been staring in their direction before he eventually got up and walked out. Mo Yunchen knew Qi Tianshang was going to look for any traces of the Soul Settling Stone.
"Okay!"
Qin Qin nodded and said nothing more, holding onto Mo Yunchen’s hand as they slowly walked inside.
The cave was very dark, so Qin Qin took out a flashlight from her space to illuminate the path ahead. She didn’t know how long they walked, but Mo Yunchen and Qin Qin surveyed their surroundings. The cave was vast, leading who knew where, and inside, aside from a few branches, there were only rocks.
Qin Qin’s flashlight lit up the surrounding path. She raised it to look inside, but the beam couldn’t penetrate the cave’s depth.
"This cave is so deep!"
Qin Qin marveled slightly at the dark cave not far ahead. Tightening her grip on the flashlight, she quickened her pace, crouching down to inspect several messy footprints in front of her, then raising the flashlight to look around.
"Has someone been here before?"
Qin Qin felt a slight thrill. Mo Yunchen crouched beside her, observing a small dried-up puddle nearby. Around the parched puddle were several disordered footprints.
Mo Yunchen’s phoenix-like eyes narrowed, examining the surroundings.
Throughout their journey, they hadn’t seen any footprints. The reason they noticed them here was that the cave walls had minor seepage, resulting in a small puddle that left these footprints behind. Judging by the age of these footprints, quite some time had passed.
"Mo Yunchen, do you think those people from Peaceful Village came in here?"
Qin Qin’s heart filled with a mix of emotions. After searching for so long and with so much time gone by, and considering how vast this Forest of Death was, finding them seemed like a very slim possibility. She herself had not held much hope, but now seeing human footprints, could it mean that those villagers from Peaceful Village had once sought refuge here?
"Let’s go in and have a look!"
Mo Yunchen stood up, pulling Qin Qin forward. If people had indeed been here, there was at least a seventy percent chance these were the villagers who had escaped here, possibly even the ones who brought the Soul Settling Stone inside.
"Okay!"
Qin Qin followed Mo Yunchen deeper into the cave, when suddenly faint, hushed footsteps echoed in her ears.
