Mage Legend
Chapter 792 - 48: Conditions (Part 3)
"Are you saying that the inventions of the Dwarfs even surpass the power of the gods?" Lynch chuckled twice, "This indeed has a dramatic effect. If I were to tell Nimo that their 'defective products' are more powerful than a Divine Artifact, I wonder what kind of scene that would be."
"I can imagine it, after all, even you and I don't completely understand how it works; we can only say it's the trick of fate." The great snake nodded, "In my homeland, I also possess the identity of a god, but I don't have as much influence over the people as the gods here. Ever since that device threw me here, I've been wanting to go back, so I had to start my journey here."
"You've been in Anriel for quite some time, haven't you?" Lynch asked, "But at the same time, as the only god who can maintain divine power and move freely in the mortal world, this actually provides you with enough convenience."
"I've been trapped here for 13 years, and what's more, a year here is much longer than a year in my world." The great snake sighed, "But you're right. Even though my powers were limited when breaking through the space barrier, I still maintain the status of a god. After studying your world's history, I thought that only by increasing my power could I find a way back, and the simplest way is to collect the remains of those gods, for there's still strong Divine Fire left in Anriel."
"I have a lot to thank your Great Mages for." The great snake mentioned, "The internal war of this world thousands of years ago indeed helped me a lot."
"Well, Mr. Scavenger, is there more to your story?" Lynch laughed, "Do you think waging a war can help you return home? Or have you decided to settle here?"
"I first created a space, of course, using that Arcane Secret Scroll, and chose the creatures most similar to my original form to serve me," said the great snake. "Compared to humans, they are more straightforward and truly have had a glorious history with infinite potential (Snake-men were the second species to rule the continent after the giant dragons but were eventually surpassed by other species due to changes in climate that limited their development). I didn't know any magic at all, and at that time, my Divine Power was very weak. Only by relying on my original form could I gain followers."
"Can't you learn the arcane?" Lynch had guessed this a long time ago, but he still feigned surprise, "You don't seem very stupid, surely you tried joining the Mage Association?"
"In this multiverse, there are simpler ways to learn the arcane than joining the Anriel Mage Association. But indeed, I couldn't learn it." The great snake said helplessly, "It's like the entire universe is unaware of the existence of my world, as if some stronger rule is blocking our vision. Only through error and coincidence—like the seemingly failed experiments of the Dwarfs—can such rules allow exceptions."
Lynch nodded, frowning. He had never considered this aspect of the problem before, and even the All-Knowing trapped in the Half-plane prison had no clue about the origin of the great snake. The great snake's explanation, "viewing the world from a higher position," was an entirely new theory, so if Lynch didn't start making a thoughtful frown, his expression would seem too forced, unnecessarily wasting his disguise.
"The first space I established was to find other arcane scrolls. However, the scrolls themselves couldn't be found this way, so I shifted to finding those who were influenced by their power. They are all captured by the space unconsciously, like in a dream, in a coma or even upon death," the great snake said. "Originally, I thought every mind should have time to rest, even a Witch Demon can't maintain absolute and lasting awareness. I tried countless times to connect with you, conveying dreams to you in the night. Even the things I'm telling you today, I've repeated them to you over a thousand times. But unexpectedly, you've only reached that world twice. It started making me very curious—do you never sleep?"
"No, I just don't dream." Lynch replied.
"So, your brain has been altered by some power?" The great snake thought for a moment, then nodded, "This explanation can account for many things. But on the other hand, a person who doesn't dream is also a mage, possesses the power of a Great Mage, and has obtained three chapters of the five chapters of the Arcane Secret Scroll: the odds of such things happening are extremely low, aren't they?"
"You always believed you're a god. And aren't gods meant to create miracles? Aren't odds bullshit?" Lynch said to the great snake, "Sorry, I mean snake-shit."
"Haha, even if you say so, I won't get angry." The great snake laughed out loud, "On Heaven Mountain, a sense of humor is as rare as Devils in Bator Hell. It's good to have you here."
"No matter how you flatter, I'm not moving in to live with you." Lynch declared, "Since we're going to your territory, isn't there a faster way? I'm a mage, I can't accompany you across the entire obverse of this plane to visit your residence."
"We'll get there soon enough, but the time is just enough for me to finish this lengthy self-introduction." The great snake said, "Anyone with enough sanity wouldn't gamble their chances of winning on an almost impossible miracle, even I, as a god, am not that impulsive. Now, the reason I'm able to achieve such accomplishments is entirely due to the abilities I possess. Like the story I heard about you. You once lost the ability to cast spells but fought hard to regain it step by step."
Lynch simply stopped walking and looked directly at the great snake, waiting for him to finish talking. Since the Arcane Secret Scroll of space was in his possession, this guy could go anywhere he wanted—except back to his homeland—without a problem.
"My world is more orderly and more stable," said the great snake, "thus producing something you can never achieve here: science." He smiled slightly and explained, "In Anriel, this term comes from the goblin language and Dwarf language, representing a wishful but unstable form of control. In a place with so many deities, each trying to assert their powers to interfere with the world, this thing called science inevitably becomes a laughable trick."
"So, are you saying you possess this power?" Lynch couldn't help but think about the whimsical ideas of the Dwarfs, and the brilliant experiments many alchemists completed but were never successfully replicated. If those things, regarded by mages as 'jokes and fantasies,' became a truly useful skill, the entire world would surely transform into a different place.
"Lynch, you possess three Secret Scrolls. Undeniably, I wish to acquire them," the great snake said. "Therefore, I need to show you something. I will demonstrate the achievements science can reach in our world. This is my bargaining chip!"
The great snake waved his hand, and in front of them came into being a Teleportation Gate encapsulated in blue light, with countless spells swimming between the doorframes, making it impossible for Lynch to see to the other side.
"For confidentiality, only I can open this teleportation path," the great snake said. "Please follow me, Great Mage."
