Mage Legend
Chapter 798 50: Opponents (Part 2)
Beads of sweat appeared on the serpent's head, which was not easy for a cold-blooded animal. Deep down, he was unwilling to believe his own failure, but reason told him that the result of crossing paths with Lynch would be terrifying. Even in the best scenario, he would have to hold out until the end of the world to have a chance at victory. In other words, his ambition and plan, lost in the passage of time, would no longer have any possibility of realization.
"There must be other ways!" The serpent clenched his fists tightly, his whole body trembling uncontrollably due to the excessive exertion, and the skin in many areas had become pale. All the blood in his body began to gather towards his head, and his mind had never been as active as it was now.
"There must be other ways!" he shouted loudly, yet he was completely unaware that he was making any sound at all.
The last surge of power emanating from Lynch leveled everything taller than a person within the entire domain, reducing it to a heap of scrap metal. The former order and tidiness had completely disappeared, and the remaining wreckage became the perfect battlefield.
"Serpent, what are you waiting for? Why don't you reveal your true form?" Lynch exhaled softly and then said calmly, "In your current state, you're too weak."
The serpent raised his head, and a few beads of sweat gathered around his neck dripped down, making a crisp sound as they hit the gravel. He slowly unclenched his fists to let the blood warm his frozen fingers. "Lynch, you fill me with surprise. It seems I cannot defeat you alone."
Lynch's eyes flickered, then returned to calm: "Yes, you're correct in estimating that you don't stand a chance on your own. But even if you command your minions to attack the All-Knowing Tower, using my kin's lives as leverage, it won't change the outcome. I will end everything here soon enough, and by then, your minions won't have even damaged the protective layer formed by the Tower's Elemental Power."
"It may seem I've failed, but in reality, I still have a path to victory ahead." Without warning, the serpent suddenly laughed, his facial muscles painfully stretching his mouth into a stiff, sinister grin. "Hahaha! Lynch, I've finally seen through your intentions! You want a quick resolution, and there's only one reason for that!"
Lynch's eyebrows furrowed, and at that moment, his Eye of Insight pierced straight through the serpent's soul, uncovering the crazy plan hidden deep within his flesh and blood—a desperate ace up the serpent's sleeve: an ally he had never been willing to rely on before. In an instant, Lynch completely saw through the plan the serpent had just painstakingly devised. Without hesitation, he reached out to seize the serpent's heart.
Pure magic had reached its peak, fully transforming into energy, devoid of flashy spells or shells, yet indestructible. Just as the Magic Origin Light Sphere had the property of dissolving everything, the white flames gathering at Lynch's fingertips immediately tore through layer after layer of defense surrounding the serpent, ripping through the invisible armor formed by his Divinity.
The serpent didn't even plan to fight back, because he had already calculated that even with the swiftest approach, he couldn't stop Lynch's thunderous attack. The mage facing him would absolutely not go back and forth with him slowly or play some cat-and-mouse game. Unlike his previous assumption of a long-protracted encounter, the final conclusion would come as rapidly as it did. Because besides himself, Lynch also had to face another latent threat — the Magic God.
There was no way he could allow the Magic God ample time to regain strength and resurrect. Even if the mage was powerful, the Magic God possessed power beyond that level.
The enemy of my enemy is my ally. Perhaps deep within the serpent's heart, he never truly regarded Lynch as an enemy—more as a rival. Once the serpent realized that Lynch's power had surpassed that of most deities, a gambling-like notion suddenly emerged.
Lynch and the Magic God would be the most evenly matched opponents in the world. As long as there was a suitable venue, their battle would be infinitely prolonged—regardless of who would eventually win, the serpent believed he would be ready to face any challenge by then.
