CHAPTER 68: A DUO OF DRAGONS

~Dawn POV~

As mama finished telling me to be safe and that I needed to be careful I tried to show her that I would be but she was still slightly silly and couldn’t understand me just yet. But that is alright because I loved her lots and I knew she loved me lots too!

So I let her give me lots of hugs and pets, she gives the bestest hugs! And then mummy Kana and Amanda also told me to be carefull and not to do anything dangerous, but I’m smart so I only agreed with them!

But really I was excited! I loved mama lots and lots but I was also very excited to get out and have a chance to explore by myself! I’d seen so many fun things and caught so many weird things recently that I was excited to see what I could do by myself!

As the time came to an end I nuzzled into mama and the next thing I knew I was gone. The strange wobbly feeling happened when I am moved somewhere I don’t want to. I don’t like that feeling! Silly strange space always moving me without me wanting to! Why can’t mama just carry me there like normal?!

When the wobbly feelings came to and end I found myself on a open field. I was within a circle of dirt around 2 mamas wide and there was someone else in the circle with me, and it was someone I recognised! I quickly let out a mighty roar of greeting that most definitely didn’t sound more like a squeak and clapped my mighty wings to fly up and circle the friendly kinda dragon woman!

"Wha Dawn? Is that you? What are you doing here?" She asked me with clear confusion in her tone. Before I got a chance to reply to her a system screen appeared before me, I quickly flew down and landed on the kinda dragon woman’s head so I could look it over.

[You are challenged to participate in the hunting grounds.

Within this vast plains their are 50 beasts. The 20 challengers in 10 pairs within are tasked with hunting down their beasts. To collect their token which will be dropped upon completion. To pass this challenge you must collect 10 tokens and hold them till the timer is over.

You may challenge other challengers to a duel to lay claim to their tokens. (Death will be prevented within a duel)

Objectives:

- collect 10 tokens as a pair

- survive 3 days, time remaining 2D 23H 59M

- (Optional) Challenge the Beast King in the Center of the plains and come out victorious.]

Ohh I had to fight! I liked fighting! It can be really fun! Oh but I don’t have aunty Zara to block their attacks, or mummy Kana and Amanda. Or mama to fight with me. I felt my mood begin to drop as I sank down onto the dragonish woman’s head. Wait! The dragonish woman! It said I have a partner that I am supposed to work with! I quickly extended my majestic head and turned it upside down so that I could look at the woman I was using as a perch.

Her face was a strange mix of emotions, she looked awed to have been chosen as my perch which is only natural! But she also seemed quite concerned about the challenge. Silly dragonish woman! We just needed to work together and we will be able to come out on top!

"Hmm okay so seems like we need to go hunt down these beasts ehy little Dawn?" The woman spoke up whilst also raising her hand to gently pet my head, since she was a nice person I allowed her to do so. "Well then little one shall we get started?"

I nodded my head at her which she smiled at before she began to walk forward. "Now I’m not sure exactly where we should be heading but may as well go in a direction instead of just standing still eh. Unless you are able to fly up and see if you can spot anything?" She asked of me.

I thought for a moment my head to lifting unconsciously as I thought about it. I hated to admit it but I wasn’t the best flyer right now and couldn’t stay in the air for longer than a few minutes before getting tired. But that should still be enough time to get fairly high and have a look around to see if I’m able to spot anything. So I nodded again towards her, I had to learn how to communicate simple things through body movement since for some reason mama couldn’t understand me, but I’m sure she will learn how to soon!

"Okay little one I’ll trust in you to find the right way to go, just come back down to me when you need to." Once she finished she stopped petting me, slightly disgruntled at that I squarked at her but knowing that I should do as we discussed I instead pressed off and flapped my mighty wings.

Feeling the air catch and begin to lift me I began to rise into the air. I angled my long body to alter my direction and tilted my head to direct my upwards movement. Feeling my muscles strain as I pushed myself higher and higher into the sky, the feeling of flying is something that I don’t think I will ever tire off. Being so free high up in the sky, watching the landscape expand below me and the feeling of absolute freedom is something that I crave and believe I will always seek out. I just wish that one day mama can join me up in the sky, maybe I will eventually get big enough that she can fly on my back!

But then a thought struck me, ’if I’m big enough for her to fly on my back then that would mean that I would be too big to be able to snuggle up around her neck! I don’t think I wanted that, being able to cuddle with her like that is one of my favourite things to do! The feeling she radiates feels so welcoming that I can only think of it as home.

I decided then and their that if I ever started to grow to big o would have to find a way to shrink down so that I can always stay close to mama but can still grow bigger when needed so that I can also protect her!

Snapping out of my thoughts I finally take a look at the landscape below me. As the message said this truly is a vast plain of grasslands, the area we were on is mostly flat but gently hills begin to appear a while away from our location. I do spot a river that seems to split the landscape in two in front of us but it is also quite far away. Not able to see anything else of note with the landscape I start to search for any signs of life.

I glide in gentle circles as I carefully investigate the landscape making sure to inspect everything I can during my lazy circling. My vision is able to zoom in on anything I decide to focus on and one spot in particular catches my eye. It is quite far out so even with my amazing vision I cannt fully make out any details but I can spot what looks to be a beast of some kind but it looks quite large.

Deciding that we should head in that direction as it seems to be the only way that has any life I angle my body and begin my decent. I marvel at the feeling of the wind rushing past my wings and scales as I pick up speed, as I get closer and closer I notice how the dragonish women seems to be watching me with, concern? Don’t know why she would be concerned but people can be silly at times.

Reaching the appropriate altitude o extend open my wings and allow the air to catch them, I feel the increasing pressure upon them but I welcome that knowing that it will aid in my growth. As my speed slows drastically I do a singular circle around her before gently alighting on her head once more.

My shoulders hurt slightly and I feel quite tired after than extended flight but I thourghly enjoyed myself! The dragonish woman’s words snap me out of my revelry. "So did you manage to spot any of these beasts?"

Taking a moment to catch my breath I slowly nod before pointing my head direction that I spotted the beast before. The dragonish woman smiled before reaching up to begin petting me again in obvious praise for my grand accomplishment. I even find myself begin to our in contentment when she moves to scratch behind my horns.

"Good job little Dawn. You just rest up a bit now and aunty Senitha will carry you for a while." She sounded very excited when she called herself my aunty but since I didn’t see anything wrong with changing how I called her I just settled down stop her head and began to rest as my new aunty carried me across the plains. After all I would need all of my strength for the fights to come!
