CHAPTER 487: NOW IS YOUR CHANCE TO PROVE YOUR WORTH!

Chapter 487

"Kek!" Ray chuckled as he stood facing two beasts, his lips curving into a mischievous grin.

"Is that really all you’ve got for me? The others are swarmed with high numbers, but I only get two? That feels like an insult. Not fair at all." He shook his head slowly in mock disappointment, though his eyes gleamed with anticipation.

The beasts were not the type to waste time with words. They answered with a guttural snarl before bolting forward, claws gleaming as they aimed to let violence do the talking.

With a sharp clang, Ray banged his gauntlets together, the metallic ring echoing across the street. Ki surged evenly through his arms and legs, swirling like a controlled storm. Without hesitation, he dashed forward to meet the incoming Lycans head on.

A claw strike cut toward his neck, but Ray twisted at the last second, leaping sideways. His boots scraped against the stone as he spun mid-air, swinging his gauntleted fist to intercept the punch of the other beast.

Bang!

The collision shook the air, a raw shockwave rippling outward as their fists met with bone-cracking force. Neither side overpowered the other, both glaring through the impact.

"I was trained by Yami himself," Ray growled, muscles straining as he pushed against the Lycan’s strike. "Did you really think your punch would affect..."

SWOOSH!

The air shrieked as another set of claws sliced toward his throat from the blindside.

"Tch!" Ray scoffed, instantly springing upward. His body arced high as the claws tore through empty space beneath him.

He came crashing back down with precision, his right leg engulfed in Ki. The axe kick slammed into the Lycan’s skull with brutal force. The beast’s knees buckled, its body slamming into the dirt and sending a dusty shockwave into the air.

AWHOOO!

The second Lycan wasn’t going to sit idly by. With startling speed, it lunged forward, claws flashing dangerously close to Ray’s face. The sudden burst caught him off guard. His reaction faltered for a fraction of a second.

He managed to lean back just enough, but the claws grazed across his cheek, leaving a thin but stinging cut that oozed blood.

"Damn it." Ray cursed under his breath as he flipped back several feet, planting himself firmly to create distance.

His eyes darted around. The town was still in chaos—dozens of beasts tearing through the streets while screams echoed in the distance. His comrades were all occupied with their own battles.

’I need to wrap this up fast, or there won’t be a town left to save,’ Ray thought grimly.

Before he could make a move, the beast lunged again, faster and wilder than before.

"F*CK you!" Ray roared. Ki surged violently into his right arm until his fist hummed with a thunderous vibration. He drove it forward with everything he had, the blow creating a booming shockwave as it tore through the air.

His gauntlet sank deep into the Lycan’s abdomen. The beast’s eyes went wide, its body jerking back from the crushing force. It hunched forward, saliva dripping from its maw.

But to Ray’s frustration, it recovered almost instantly. With a guttural snarl, the Lycan swung its claws toward his skull, faster than expected.

’Crap!’

Before the strike could connect, another voice cut in.

"And here I thought I was the most useless one in the group."

CLANG!

Steel intercepted claw, the sound ringing sharply through the battlefield.

Ray blinked before shoving his foot into the beast’s chest, sending it flying several meters back. He turned, and his eyes narrowed.

Liam approached with his twin blades drawn, his orange and brown hair swaying slightly in the wind. A triumphant smirk played across his lips.

"Aren’t you supposed to be leading the people out of here?" Ray demanded with a frown.

"What a cold way of saying, ’Thank you for saving my life. Without you, I’d be dead.’" Liam scoffed, his mock smile widening as he twirled a blade.

"I didn’t need you. I had everything under control," Ray muttered defensively, wiping blood from his cheek.

Before Liam could fire back, the ground trembled. Heavy footsteps thundered toward them. Both turned their heads to see six Lycans racing in their direction, claws raised, eyes glowing with hunger.

Ray grinned despite the tension. "You wanted to prove your worth? Well, now’s your chance!"

With that, he exploded forward, his figure blurring as he dashed headfirst into the incoming pack.

Meanwhile, a short distance away, Noelle stood calmly, her posture relaxed but her eyes sharp.

In front of her were five beasts, each of them snarling with feral intent. They didn’t have the friendliest of faces; in fact, their expressions spoke only of hunger and bloodlust. In less than a split second, they were all charging toward the lone human who wielded nothing but a whip.

Sigh!

"This is troublesome," she muttered under her breath, her voice almost lost amidst the pounding of claws against the ground. Without hesitation, she leaped into the air, narrowly dodging a claw that sliced for her neck.

She retaliated instantly, swinging her whip in a vicious arc. The weapon cracked through the air with deadly speed and precision, its sharp wind slicing toward the closest beast.

It would have torn into the Lycan had another not intercepted, slamming into the whip mid-air and forcing it down into the dirt with sheer brute strength. The ground trembled under the force.

Noelle’s eyes narrowed, her body tensing to react, when a third beast suddenly darted behind her. Her instincts kicked in and she spun around, crossing her arms in an X just in time.

BAM!

A punch landed heavily against her forearms, the impact sending her skidding back an inch before she dug her heels in and anchored herself down.

Her brows furrowed deeply as she forcefully swung her crossed arms forward, releasing a burst of Ki energy. The wave of raw force struck the beast squarely, hurling it several metres away before it could lunge again.

"Persistent pests," she hissed.

AWHOOO!

The howl split through the air as the two remaining Lycans charged, their claws raised high and aiming straight for her face.

Noelle reacted instantly, swirling Ki around her feet. Her body spun and shot upward into the air, narrowly dodging their deadly swipes. But she had miscalculated.

A third Lycan crouched low, its muscles coiled like springs before it launched upward with frightening speed. Before Noelle could fully react, it slammed a brutal punch into her stomach. The strike tore the air apart and sent her body crashing back down with blistering force.

The earth split as she collided with it, a crater exploding beneath her impact while a massive cloud of dust rose into the sky.

The Lycans didn’t hesitate. Sensing blood, they surged into the dust cloud, eager to finish her off before she could rise again.

"You shouldn’t have touched me," a cold, calm female voice whispered from within the haze.

A few metres away, an eight-metre-long whip suddenly came alive. It slithered through the dust like a serpent, glowing faintly as it returned to its master’s grasp just as the beasts closed in.

"Go to hell."

Noelle’s voice was low, filled with icy venom as she swung the whip. It cracked violently, lashing through the air toward the four Lycans. They tried to dodge at the last moment, leaping aside with desperate speed. They thought they had succeeded, landing just a metre away as the tip of the whip sliced past their throats.

Or so they thought.

Splash!

Black blood spurted violently from their necks. The whip had been faster and sharper than their eyes could follow. As the dust settled, the sight was clear—four Lycans collapsed in unison with heavy, echoing thuds, their lifeless eyes still wide with shock.

Noelle exhaled softly, her gaze calm and merciless as she lowered her weapon. "Troublesome indeed," she murmured, though not a speck of doubt lingered in her tone.
