CHAPTER 79: INVOLVEMENT WITH HUMANS

Ronan, too, went ahead to help his brother. Together, both Lucien and Ronan took down the berserk wolf in seconds. Lucien tried to control it, but for some reason, he was unable to. Usually, for an alpha werewolf, it was easier to stop such wolves, but it seemed the wolf was bound with a certain spell.

Just then, they heard a loud siren. Leia turned around and saw the police car.

"Hey! Stay right there!" Two cops exited the car while pointing their guns at them.

Leia widened her eyes in fear. She never wanted the police to even get involved in her wildest dreams.

"Don’t step ahead. This wolf isn’t in control," Lucien’s loud voice echoed through the street, making the feet of the cops freeze. However, they kept their guns pointed at them.

"What should we do about this wolf?" Ronan asked with a frown.

Lucien tightened his fist and punched the wolf hard, making him unconscious in a single blow.

Kieran stepped toward the police officers and greeted them. "We found a wolf attacking a woman in an alley. My brothers did what they had to in order to stop it. You can check the alley to confirm," he suggested calmly.

The two officers exchanged a glance, slightly unsettled, and proceeded toward the alley. Lucien followed closely behind them. Their steps slowed as they caught sight of the massive unconscious wolf sprawled on the ground.

One of the officers immediately reached for his walkie-talkie upon noticing a woman lying nearby, drenched in blood.

"Send an ambulance to Park Street 121 immediately," he ordered.

The other officer knelt beside the woman and checked her pulse. "It is unstable," he muttered grimly.

"How long will the ambulance take?" the first cop asked tensely.

"At least ten minutes," the second replied, then turned his gaze to Lucien with clear suspicion. He picked up his walkie-talkie again and informed dispatch, "Tell the team we’ll also need a unit to carry a werewolf. Bring a transport crane."

Lucien and Ronan exchanged a look.

"Should we leave, Officer?" Lucien asked calmly.

"No," the officer responded firmly. "You’ll all need to come to the station for questioning, especially about how you managed to take down such a large wolf."

Lucien’s expression hardened slightly. "Because I’m an alpha werewolf. So are my brothers. We don’t seek involvement with humans, but this situation left us no choice. I hope you’ll understand."

"This is a public security matter," the officer replied. "I can’t let any of you leave without a proper interrogation."

Lucien’s jaw tightened. He turned and walked over to Leia, who stood frozen with fear.

"They’re taking us in for questioning," he said quietly.

"What?" Leia whispered in alarm. "That’s not fair. And now... everyone here who saw me might have figured out I’m a wolf too. The others will know too."

Lucien took out his phone and stepped aside to make a quick call. He contacted someone he trusted, giving strict instructions to ensure Leia’s identity remained protected.

Meanwhile, the ambulance arrived. The injured woman was quickly loaded and rushed to the hospital. A transport team followed soon after, lifting the unconscious werewolf onto a crane.

"Please enter the vehicle," one of the officers instructed the group.

"That won’t be necessary," came a firm voice from behind them. A senior officer approached with authority in his stride. "The High Commissioner has ordered that they be released."

Turning to Lucien and his brothers, the senior officer added, "Thank you for intervening and saving the woman. We’ll arrange a police escort to take you home."

Lucien offered a courteous nod. "We appreciate it," he said, "but we have a stop to make at the mall. We’ll book a cab instead."

"Sure," the senior officer said.

"Let’s go," Lucien said, gently taking Leia’s hand. Together, they walked ahead, with Kieran and Ronan following closely behind. As they stepped into the brighter part of the street, Kieran raised a hand to hail a taxi.

After a few moments, a cab pulled up beside them. The four of them climbed in quietly.

Once they reached Leia’s house, Lucien paid the fare and stepped out with her. The others followed, but stayed near the gate as Lucien escorted Leia inside.

She turned to face him, her brows furrowed. "Why didn’t they take us to the station?"

"I made a call," Lucien answered calmly. "To someone I trust. No one will find out that you’re not human, I promise."

Leia nodded slowly, still processing it all. "This has never happened before..."

"It’s not just that," Ronan added in a troubled voice. "The strange part is... we couldn’t control the werewolf."

"But alpha werewolves can control others," Kieran pointed out, frowning. "It should’ve obeyed."

Lucien’s expression darkened. His gaze shifted to the street, then back to them. "That’s because he wasn’t here by accident," he said grimly. "He was sent with a purpose under someone else’s command."

"But why would someone do that?" Leia murmured, her brows knitted in confusion. "Why send a werewolf to attack a random woman in a human neighborhood?"

Lucien looked at her for a moment, then sighed. "It’s not our concern anymore. And you don’t need to overthink it," he said gently.

Leia’s expression darkened slightly, but before she could speak, Lucien continued, "I think we should leave this city tomorrow morning. I don’t want us getting caught in another mess. Not while your identity is at risk."

He looked at her then, waiting for her answer.

"You’re right. We should leave in the morning," Leia said, accepting his suggestion. She stood up from the sofa, turning to go to her room, when Kieran pulled her into an embrace.

She was stiffened for a second, but she didn’t push him away. Her restless, racing heart needed this warm hug. Leia hugged him back, feeling her heartbeats turning steady.

Then, after some time, she pulled away and tucked the hair behind her ear. "I’ll freshen up first and then order the dinner for us," she said and walked away.

"She is scared seeing all of that," Kieran told his brothers.

"We can see that," Lucien murmured.

"Whom did you call earlier?" Ronan questioned.

"Alpha Prince Andrew," Lucien replied. "He knows many from this city. I thought to take his help to protect Leia," he added.

"And what did he ask in return? Don’t forget his sister has been your admirer ever since she turned 18. For the past year, she has been quiet. She used to send gifts and letters to you," Ronan chuckled, recalling that.

"The Alpha Prince is a good friend of mine. He didn’t ask for anything. I’m ordering dinner for us. You two should freshen up," Lucien opined, and went to the garden of the house.
