CHAPTER 27: EVELYN: HE WANTS TO BRING ME HOME

Evelyn~

In the distance, I could hear more palace soldiers rushing toward the battleground.

But from the other side, venom-tipped arrows were already flying fast, raining down on the approaching troops.

If this continued, a full-blown war might break out, especially if the other packs under Theron’s rule found out that a pack of barbarians had dared to attack the palace and kidnap the King’s Luna.

Well, technically, the Moon Goddess hadn’t confirmed whether I was the real Luna yet ... so my status was still a big question mark.

But one thing was certain, I was the fated mate of both of them.

So neither of them was wrong when they claimed I was their Luna.

The problem was, neither of them was willing to share.

"I think the path across the lake looks safe," I whispered to myself. "Maybe if I swim underwater, I can make it across."

My wolf let out a long, tired sigh. "Don’t waste your energy trying to escape. You won’t make it."

God, what a pessimistic wolf.

Honestly, I’d rather go back to sleeping in dark alleys than be dragged away by an Alpha who acted like some feral warlord.

But just as I started crawling toward the water, a pair of glowing emerald eyes appeared right in front of me.

"Good evening, my love."

The barbarian Alpha was suddenly standing on the rock I’d been hiding behind.

He bent down, lowering himself until his face was just inches from mine, so I could see his face upside down.

"I have lots of pretty jewels at home," he said with a smile that was far too charming for someone so dangerous. "Would you like to come see them?"

His sudden appearance startled me, and out of instinct, I grabbed a handful of dirt from the ground and threw it right into his eyes.

I thought he’d be furious. I mean, who wouldn’t be angry after getting dirt in their face?

But no. He just laughed like some villain straight out of a theatrical play.

"Oh, my ... what a fierce woman." His eyes turned red from the dirt, but he didn’t even flinch. He jumped down from the rock and landed right in front of me. "I like it," he added with a grin.

There was absolutely something wrong with his brain or something else entirely.

An Alpha should have been furious, should’ve felt insulted when someone threw dirt in his face, but he acted like I’d just tossed candy at him instead.

"RAEL!" Theron’s furious voice echoed through the night. "GET AWAY FROM MY LUNA!"

So, his name was Rael.

Oh, something felt strange.

When I met Theron for the first time, I felt like I had seen his eyes before, and now, when I heard Rael’s name, it felt like I’d called out that name over and over again before.

It was such a strange feeling, wasn’t it?

I swear I’d never met either of them before.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to think about it further because my attention was quickly pulled back by the chaos around me.

More soldiers were arriving, while Rael’s pack started emerging from their hiding spots.

On the other side, Theron was struggling to stand.

The poison had spread through his body, but even so, he forced himself back on his feet.

Once his feet touched the ground, black shadows began to rise beneath him.

They weren’t ordinary shadows, they looked ... strange.

They slithered as if they were living creatures.

The shadow crept from beneath Theron’s feet toward Rael within seconds, but before it could reach him, Rael picked me up and jumped back onto the rock.

I widened my eyes and let out a small yelp from the sudden movement.

"I’m sorry, my love," Rael whispered. "But we don’t have much time. We need to leave before the wolfie over there turns into a big, bad monster."

Before I could even get a word out, I heard Theron shouting again.

"RAEL COVERN!"

He was dragging himself toward us, eyes locked on Rael like he was ready to tear him apart. "Put her down while I’m still giving you the chance."

"Or what?" Rael still sounded as playful as before, but he didn’t make any unnecessary movements. "She is my Luna. Why would I hand her over to you?"

"She is my Luna!" Theron shouted.

If I told them that both of them were my mates, would they even listen?

Worse, they might immediately try to kill each other just to be my one and only mate.

Yeah ... probably not a good move for right now.

They needed to calm down first, but from the way they were acting, I wasn’t even sure they knew what calm meant.

The shadow crawling across the ground slowly began to rise, turning into sharp black spears that pointed straight at Rael.

However, Rael was faster.

Before those spears could touch him, he had already jumped so high that he landed on a tall tree, maybe ten meters away from where we had just been.

How the hell did he even do that?!

"Run all you want, Rael," Theron growled through clenched teeth. "But I will find you, and when I do, I’ll skin you alive and toss your body into a pit full of demon beasts!"

Rael just laughed, clearly enjoying himself. "That doesn’t sound any worse than hell!" he said, still grinning. "But good luck finding me! For your information, I’ve changed my address, so it’s going to be pretty hard for you to track me down!"

I was a little confused.

Why were they even talking about addresses if they hated each other so much?

My wolf clicked her tongue. "They’re talking about Rael’s territory. A pack usually settles in one place that feels comfortable for them, but some do live nomadic lives."

’I know that,’ I defended myself. ’I’m just confused a bit because it sounds like they have been to each other’s houses before.’

Judging by how bad Rael and his pack’s reputation was, they were probably the type of werewolves who moved around a lot in a short amount of time.

"Why don’t you just put me down?" I finally said to him. "You probably won’t live peacefully if the Alpha King puts a bounty on your head."

Rael’s eyes snapped to me in an instant, and the way he looked at me made my heart skip a beat.

"No," he said, suddenly deadly serious. "I’ve waited for you for years. I’m not letting you go now."

"You’re coming home with me."
