CHAPTER 35: EVELYN: THE ALPHA WHO COULDN’T STAY CALM

Evelyn~

The werewolves who had been waiting near the tiger trap gasped in disbelief when they saw their Alpha carrying me out alive.

My skin and dress were soaked in blood, completely torn and messy. Yet somehow, despite everything, there wasn’t a single wound left on my body. It was impossible ... and yet, it was true.

Rael lifted his hand, silently telling everyone not to speak or make a fuss. Then he turned to Marek with a firm voice, "Beta, clean up all the blood she left in the trap. Every drop of it. Don’t leave a trace, or that bastard will track her here."

That "bastard" could only mean Theron.

Truthfully, I wasn’t sure if cleaning up my blood and tracks would be enough to stop Theron from coming to find me. After all, he had marked me, so he could probably sense me anywhere, even if I were buried deep underground.

Still, I couldn’t say that in front of Rael’s pack. If I did, I might embarrass him. Worse, they might think I wasn’t worthy of being their Luna and throw me out.

Although, now that I thought about it ... being thrown out didn’t sound so bad. At least that way, they’d let me go without hurting me.

But if they decided to get rid of me to protect their Alpha’s pride or the reputation of their pack, then I wouldn’t even get the chance to run.

Maybe it was better to tell Rael the truth when we were alone. If my wolf was right about him, maybe he wouldn’t lash out at me.

"I don’t think he’ll be mad at you," my wolf suddenly spoke. "I think ... he’ll be mad at Theron instead, and he might think that if he kills Theron, you’ll be his completely."

Didn’t she just say earlier that Rael was kind? The kindest among my mates, even? So why was she suddenly assuming Rael would decide to kill Theron?

"He is kind," she replied, calm as ever. "But that doesn’t mean he wants to share his wife with anyone. So ... I think you should tell him about your secret harem very carefully. He might cry first before he starts planning to kill the others."

I let out a quiet hiss, feeling slightly annoyed because I never had any intention of forming a secret harem, and yet the universe suddenly dumped that big problem on me.

Some people would call it a blessing, but for me, it felt more like the universe’s idea of a cruel joke.

"What?! Why are you hissing like that?!" Rael asked suddenly, sounding completely panicked. "Did I hurt you?! Did I grab you too hard?!"

He was panicking, even more than before. Before I could even respond, he had already shouted at Caelis, "Hurry up, doctor! I want you to examine my wife immediately!"

I wanted to remind him that I wasn’t technically his wife yet, but he was already sprinting through the forest, carrying me in his arms like I weighed nothing.

When he reached the settlement, he didn’t slow down. The moment he saw the flames still burning the wooden stake, he shouted, "Put the fire out now! And get rid of that damn thing! I don’t want to see it ever again!"

Everyone looked confused. It was as if he had asked them to hide a body, not just clean up some burned wood.

One of the werewolves spoke up hesitantly, "But, Alpha—"

"I’m not taking ’no’ today!" Rael cut him off, hurrying them along. This time, he sounded genuinely serious and panicked, like he might die if they didn’t extinguish the fire fast. "Just do what I said!"

They still looked confused, but since Rael was clearly determined, they had no choice but to follow his orders.

Some of the children tried to approach Rael, but they stopped halfway. Maybe the expression on his face was too intense, making them hesitant to come closer.

But Rael wasn’t angry. He looked that way only because he was panicking.

It was honestly the first time I had ever seen an Alpha completely lose control of his panic. Even Theron—who once watched me burn—had managed to keep a straight face.

But somehow, Rael’s panic made him feel more real to me. It showed that he wasn’t just a cold, proud leader. He was someone who could feel fear, someone who cared. Someone with a heart.

"Doctor, hurry up! Why are you moving like a damn snail?!" Rael shouted, kicking open the nearest house door. He didn’t even flinch when the door nearly flew off its hinges.

I wasn’t even sure if it was his house, because the moment we stepped inside, I saw a pair of werewolves tangled up in the living room, clearly in the middle of something very intimate.

Their faces turned ghost-white the second they saw Rael storm in with me in his arms, like some dramatic scene from a romance tragedy.

"A-Alpha! We ... we didn’t mean to skip the welcoming ceremony!" one of them stammered, scrambling to cover themselves with a nearby blanket.

Rael didn’t even glance their way. His eyes quickly scanned the room, first the couch, then the hallway, and finally the guest bedroom.. "Out," he barked. "Now."

"But Alpha—!"

"OUT."

They didn’t wait for a second warning. Half-dressed, they scrambled out of the house, clutching their clothes as they slammed the door behind them.

Yeah, I know the door will definitely collapse as soon as someone opens it again.

Rael didn’t say a word about the awkward interruption. He just carried me into the now-empty room and gently laid me down on the bed. The sheets smelled like pine and smoke, probably from the firewood burning earlier in the fireplace.

"Doctor!" he shouted. "Examine her now!"

Dr. Caelis finally caught up to him, panting heavily from sprinting through the woods and trying to keep up with Rael’s wild pace. His coat was half-open, and his bag of medical tools was nearly slipping from his hand.

"I’m here! I’m here!" he wheezed, dropping to his knees beside the bed. "You run like a man possessed, Alpha."

"Just check her," Rael snapped. He wasn’t in the mood for small talk.
