Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'
Chapter 477: Removal from Office
CHAPTER 477: REMOVAL FROM OFFICE
Selina let out a cold laugh.
"Let’s wait and see."
...
For the next two days, Selina seemed to have free access in and out of Jacob’s villa, but in reality, no matter where she went, a few bodyguards shadowed her steps, and her phone was loaded with monitoring software.
Outside the Reid Group building, Selina lingered for a moment. She immediately noticed the hurried faces of people passing by and, not far away, the anxious expression of the head secretary. Her brows furrowed slightly.
What was going on?
In just a few days, the head secretary had lost her usual calm composure and was now fiercely arguing with someone.
"What a joke! Reid Group is Mr. Reid’s blood and sweat. Without him, there would be no Reid Group today. He built this company from the ground up. Now you’re demanding he step down—who are you trying to push into power?!"
And standing opposite her was none other than the man rumored to have been by Logan’s side for over ten years—Assistant Stone.
Everyone in Reid Group said Stone had been demoted because he offended Mrs. Reid.
So Stone was completely unrestrained, his tone cutting, even mocking. "Tessa, I told you before you have terrible judgment. You can’t even latch on to the right thigh. Between Selina and Miss Nelson, you picked Selina. Between Young Master Owen and Logan, you actually chose Logan. Ha!"
Tessa—that was the head secretary’s name—gritted her teeth.
"After working together for ten years, I can’t believe you’re such a traitor. You actually switched over to Owen!"
Stone waved his hand dismissively, impatient.
"Logan’s been suspended. As his secretary, of course you’re getting fired. Get lost already—you’re an eyesore."
"In a few days, Young Master Owen will take over as Reid Group’s top power. Sticking around won’t do you any good. I’m telling you this for your own sake."
The words barely left his mouth before a guard grabbed Tessa by the shoulders and started dragging her out.
Selina’s gaze turned icy cold.
No wonder Logan hadn’t contacted her in the past two days—Reid Group was in trouble.
Logan, the man in charge, had actually been forced into suspension by the board. But Reid Group wasn’t like other companies—the board didn’t hold that kind of authority. Logan had absolute control there.
How did the board manage to suspend him?
Unless someone powerful was backing them.
Who was it? Amelia? The Reid Family?
Selina’s lips pressed into a thin line.
Tessa walked past her, and for a moment, she looked surprised.
"Excuse me, you are...?"
Selina snapped back to attention.
"Secretary Tessa."
As Logan’s secretary, Tessa naturally kept track of everything related to him. She knew Mr. Reid had attended Old Mr. Carter’s birthday banquet a few days ago, and the woman standing in front of her... Tessa searched her memory.
"You’re Miss Sophia?"
Selina froze for two seconds before realizing—Sophia was her new name.
"Yes."
Tessa nodded, her expression complicated.
"You look a lot like someone."
Selina’s heart skipped a beat. She instinctively looked at her.
This capable woman was fifteen, sixteen years older than her and had always treated her like a younger sister at the company. Now, hearing Tessa say that, Selina felt a faint sting in her chest.
"Who do I look like?"
Tessa’s lips moved. She was about to say you look like Mrs. Reid, but at the last moment, she lost her nerve and simply waved her hand.
"No one. Forget it. Carter Miss, are you here to see Mr. Reid? Unfortunately, he’s not in today."
With that, Tessa didn’t wait for Selina to respond and turned away.
Selina’s brow furrowed even tighter.
...She hadn’t been mistaken. When Tessa first saw her and said you look like someone, there was a flicker of something in her eyes.
Deep down, Tessa thought Sophia and Selina looked alike.
But she resisted saying Selina’s name...
An idea suddenly struck Selina like lightning—why was the board so brazen, so confident, that they dared to strip Logan of his position?
Could it be that the power behind the board wasn’t Owen at all, but... the imposter?
The imposter was walking around wearing her identity. She was "Mrs. Reid" now—and Logan had previously transferred part of Reid Group’s shares to her.
To outsiders, Mrs. Reid now held absolute controlling power.
Maybe she’d whispered the right words in the right ears at Reid Group... and that’s why the board dared make this move.
Selina finally understood Jacob’s faintly amused, faintly pitying expression—as if everything she’d done at Old Mr. Carter’s banquet had been nothing more than children playing house.
And wasn’t he right? In Jacob’s eyes, two women clawing at each other for a man... fighting over a dress... bickering about whose earrings were whose—all of that was child’s play compared to the power to control Reid Group.
Jacob wasn’t just working with the imposter to target her.
They wanted to take everything from Logan—including the company he’d poured his entire life into.
Selina’s whole body went cold.
She spun on her heel and went straight back to the villa.
The moment she stepped inside, she saw Jacob lounging casually, sipping tea.
He looked up at her without the slightest hint of surprise.
"Already figured it out? Tsk. I told you not to linger around Reid Group. Now you know... and all it’s done is add to your worries."
Selina let out a bitter laugh.
"So I’m supposed to thank you?"
Jacob’s lips curved.
"Knowing ahead of time isn’t the worst thing. After all, by tomorrow the news outlets and finance pages will be reporting it anyway. ’Reid Group CEO Removed’—the whole city will be buzzing. Even if I wanted to keep it from you, I couldn’t."
"What the hell are you after?" Selina’s voice was sharp. "You turned a woman into my replacement just so she could stab Logan in the back when it mattered most?"
Jacob’s smile deepened.
"Effective, isn’t it? At least now every director and executive inside Reid Group knows—Mrs. Reid and Logan have split over differences, and Mrs. Reid has all kinds of dirt on him. One report from her, and he’s out."
Selina’s blood ran ice-cold. She turned sharply on her heel.
Jacob’s voice followed her.
"Where are you going? To Logan?"
Selina didn’t answer.
The man gave a slow, almost lazy sigh.
"Selina, what’s so great about Logan? The Reid Family doesn’t want him. The Carter Family doesn’t want him. He’s just a pitiful castoff no one wants. Even with Reid Group to his name—soon Reid Group won’t even belong to him."
"You stay here, and I’ll find you whatever man you want. Isn’t that better?"
"And besides..."
Jacob’s eyes glinted, as though he’d just thought of something entertaining.
"When you go back to Logan, what identity will you return with? Sophia? But Sophia’s already moved into their house while Logan and Mrs. Reid are ’fighting.’ What does that make you?"
Selina froze, then turned back, teeth clenched, every word sharp as glass.
"Jacob—you’re finished."
Jacob had no doubt about the hatred radiating off her in that moment, but it didn’t faze him in the slightest.
If anything, he was even more intrigued by her.
Even if Selina would never truly be his, he wanted to take her out of Logan’s hands—just to make her his prize.
