CHAPTER 479: WHAT DID I DO WRONG?

Everyone’s eyes followed the direction of Logan’s voice.

The three board members brightened the moment they saw "Selina," their faces lighting up with delight.

Logan’s gaze darkened, his certainty growing sharper.

It really was this imposter—using Selina’s identity to play tricks.

Logan’s lips curved into a smile, his tone rich with meaning.

"Selina, perfect timing. Come sit down and listen with us to the evidence these board members brought."

The imposter stiffened, instinctively wanting to bolt.

"Logan, I... I don’t understand these things..."

"How could you not understand? You’ve learned plenty from the Browns and the Fosters. I even handed you part of the shares—and SL belongs to you."

Logan frowned slightly.

"Selina, don’t sell yourself short."

Cold sweat broke out on the imposter’s back.

Logan’s smile was faint but cutting.

"As it happens, the board members seem to have some concerns with the way I’ve handled things. Selina, you’re a manager too—why don’t you tell us, based on your logic, how you would’ve handled the Lewis situation?"

The imposter pressed her lips tightly together.

All these years, she’d been trained to become Selina—to mimic her mannerisms, to learn social graces, to perfect the art of seducing men.

But no one had ever taught her how to run a company, how to handle finances, how to think like a leader.

Logan’s question boxed her in completely.

She had no answer.

Meanwhile, the three board members’ eyes lit up.

They feared "Selina" might try to protect Logan’s pride and stay silent, so they quickly pressed her.

"Yes, Mrs. Reid—why don’t you share your thoughts?"

In their minds, Selina supported removing Logan.

Of course she would take their side.

The imposter’s throat went dry.

"Lewis... the Lewis situation, I think..."

Logan cut in softly.

"How about this—why don’t you just tell us who you think is most at fault? Was it Manager Lewis... or was it me?"

The three board members’ hearts leapt into their throats.

Truth be told, the blame really did lie with Lewis.

Logan had repeatedly warned against being reckless, but Lewis went behind everyone’s back to meet the other party’s head negotiator—only to botch the deal entirely.

When there was still a chance to fix things, Lewis made yet another careless mistake, miscounting an entire shipment, and the situation spiraled from there.

And this wasn’t even a project Logan directly managed.

It belonged to a subsidiary under Reid Group. Logan rarely micromanaged subsidiary projects, but because this one involved an enormous investment, he’d stepped in briefly.

It was the only "flaw" Owen and Amelia could dig up after searching for ages—something to sling mud at Logan with.

Now the board members sat uneasily, fully aware they were on shaky ground, dreading a direct confrontation with Logan.

Inside the sitting room, the tension thickened.

The imposter clenched her teeth. She knew nothing—so she gave a weak laugh.

"I think... I think Manager Lewis made mistakes, but Logan, you..."

"I also made mistakes?"

Logan’s voice was mild, almost lazy.

"Yes. My mistake was in trusting the wrong person—failing to see that Manager Lewis had such grand ambitions. That behind my back, he reached out not just to the client, but also to our competitors."

The board members’ scalps prickled.

"Selina," Logan drawled, raising his eyes slowly, "aside from that, tell me—where else did I go wrong?"

Cold sweat trickled down the imposter’s face.

"Manager Lewis... that project, I... I..."

No matter how she turned it in her head, she couldn’t pin the blame on Logan.

Her throat scratched dry.

"I..."

"How could I forget." Logan suddenly spoke, his lips shaping the words forgot, though there wasn’t an ounce of forgetting in his tone.

"The matter with Manager Lewis happened years ago. Hardly anyone brings it up anymore, and I never told you about it. You shouldn’t know a thing."

Logan’s half-smile carried no warmth.

"So how could I ask you about it—expecting someone who doesn’t know to give me an answer?"

A chill shot through the imposter’s heart. Her entire body shook like a leaf in a storm.

The real Selina wouldn’t know about this—and of course, she wouldn’t either.

Logan had clearly figured out who she really was long ago, yet he hadn’t said a word. He just stood there, watching her squirm in terror.

"But since Selina doesn’t know anything," Logan said lightly, feigning confusion, "why is she so certain this was my mistake?"

The imposter nearly cracked a tooth from how hard she clenched her jaw. Terror seized her voice, leaving it trembling uncontrollably.

"I... I thought—"

"You thought?" Logan echoed softly, a thin edge under his calm. "It seems that your trust in me is still as fragile as glass."

A female voice broke in before the imposter could stammer another word.

"Sir," Miller Butler stepped forward, "Miss Sophia has arrived, along with Master Foster and Young Master Hill."

All eyes turned as Selina walked in first, followed by Gavin and Aiden, side by side.

Aiden and Gavin kept their faces cold, silent and sharp.

Selina, though, tilted her head slightly, her smile bright and knowing.

"Just a few days ago at the Carter Family banquet, Mrs. Reid accused Mr. Reid of cheating," she said with a soft laugh. "And now, she’s accusing him of making someone else his scapegoat? Strange... I thought the rumors said you two were deeply devoted. Where’s all that trust now?"

The imposter’s teeth sank into her lip, anger and humiliation rising in a choking wave.

Others could question her—but why did Selina get to question her?!

"Miss Carter, what are you doing here?"

The imposter drew herself up, voice sharp with indignation.

"Did I—or did I not—say I don’t welcome you?"

Logan’s gaze went dark, his eyes cutting like a blade.

Selina actually laughed, amused. The woman who stole her identity dared to tell her she wasn’t welcome?

"Yes, Mrs. Reid," Selina said sweetly, "I’m well aware you don’t welcome me."

Then her tone flipped.

"But today, I’m here on behalf of the Carter Family—to visit Mr. Reid."

"The news of Mr. Reid’s dismissal is everywhere. The Carter Family sent me to see for ourselves what’s going on."

Selina lied with a straight face, not a flicker of guilt in her voice.

"And imagine my surprise when I arrive and hear these words coming from Mrs. Reid. Tsk, tsk... even I know that Manager Lewis’s project had nothing to do with Mr. Reid from start to finish. How is it Mrs. Reid doesn’t know?"

The imposter snapped, fury bubbling through her panic.

"Logan already said—I didn’t know the details of that project!"

"Oh..." Selina nodded slowly, eyes glinting. "But if you didn’t know the details, shouldn’t you trust Mr. Reid even more? Instead, you believed strangers over him?"

Cold sweat rolled down the imposter’s spine. Her nails dug so hard into her palms they nearly broke skin.

Aiden’s gaze sharpened instantly, his eyes like knives slicing through pretense.

—This isn’t Selina.

This woman was not Selina.

She might have Selina’s face—but she wasn’t her.

Gavin, slower to catch on, pressed his lips together, frowning slightly.

Something felt off. This "Selina" wasn’t quite right.

"Speaking of which," Selina said lightly, as though she’d just remembered, "Foster’s heir and Mr. Hill are here, too."

Then she smiled, her words deceptively casual, yet cutting as glass.

"Mrs. Reid—why don’t you greet them?"

The imposter’s heart clenched tight. She ducked her head quickly, trying to hide the flash of panic in her eyes.
