Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'
Chapter 485: I Won’t Let Her Take the Risk
CHAPTER 485: I WON’T LET HER TAKE THE RISK
The Reid Family came in like they already had the victory in their hands, unstoppable and aggressive.
Public opinion was entirely in their control. After all, in Country M, tradition held one word sacred: filial piety. No matter what, in that cultural backdrop, there were always a thousand excuses for parents to mistreat their children — but if a child was seen as "unfilial," then they were the ones condemned, as if the heavens themselves should strike them down.
The Reid Family cast themselves as the victims, crying again and again about how they had "raised Logan," only for him to be "ungrateful." A bastard child, they said — he should have been grateful for even a bite to eat, but instead, he dared to compete with their legitimate son for more.
What outsiders didn’t know, Selina knew perfectly well: Owen and Logan’s identities were completely reversed.
But...
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Her phone rang.
Selina glanced down — her eyes widened. Logan?
For a second, she froze, her fingers almost moving on their own as she hit "answer."
The man’s warm voice flowed through the receiver.
"Foster’s young master said you were sick. Are you feeling any better?"
Selina realized it then — her second brother’s excuse for not letting her take calls these past few days was that she was "ill."
Still half dazed from having just woken up, her mind sluggish, Selina stayed silent for several moments.
Logan’s voice stayed calm, gentle.
"What’s wrong? Why aren’t you saying anything?"
Selina snapped back to reality — and out came a question that seemed to come from nowhere.
"On Owen’s fifteenth birthday... Amelia gave him a watch, didn’t she?"
Logan narrowed his eyes slightly, a smile curling his lips.
"Yes."
"Where did that watch end up?"
She had dreamed of it — in the dream, Owen and Amelia accused Logan of stealing that watch. But Selina knew he wasn’t that kind of person.
She also knew she had lost a piece of her memory once. Dreams didn’t just appear from nowhere.
They came from something seen, something known.
Which meant...
In reality, had fifteen-year-old Logan been falsely branded a thief?
Logan’s smile deepened into something razor-sharp, though his tone stayed as soft as ever.
"When Owen went to Reid Group headquarters to make trouble for you, he was wearing that watch."
Selina’s mind flashed back. That day — yes, Owen had been wearing a limited-edition, worldwide exclusive watch.
"But..."
"Mrs. Reid, what do you want to ask?" Logan already knew.
"You know Amelia once used that watch to stir things up, don’t you?"
"...Mm," Selina nodded, hesitating before finally asking, "If Owen still has the watch... how did that whole thing end?"
That whole thing? Logan let out a low, quiet laugh.
It had been twelve years since he was fifteen. The memory felt distant, buried.
When he’d first been brought back to the Reid Family, Owen had found endless ways to target him. False accusations like that came daily. If it wasn’t a thousand times, it was eight hundred.
"There wasn’t really a resolution," Logan said lightly.
"In the end, Grandma found the watch in Owen’s dresser drawer. Amelia said the boy ’just got confused’—and the whole matter was brushed under the rug."
Selina’s heart clenched, as if a giant hand had squeezed it tight. Breathing hurt.
If Owen’s accusation had stuck, Logan would’ve been thrown out again — or carried the stain of "thief" for the rest of his life.
And even though the lie didn’t stick, Logan had been locked in the punishment room for three days.
And after it came out that Owen had staged the entire "theft," Amelia had only said, "He’s just a child, Logan. Don’t hold it against him."
Oh — so Owen at fifteen was still "just a child,"
But Logan at fifteen was already an "adult?"
Two people, two definitions of fifteen?
Hearing the uneven breath through the phone, Logan let out a helpless smile.
"It’s all in the past. Besides, Owen didn’t get away with much. Just a few cheap tricks — they don’t matter to me."
"You don’t care, but I do." Selina huffed, angry.
Logan’s lips curved into a faint smile.
He didn’t mention the relentless rumors.
He didn’t mention that he was surrounded on all sides, cornered.
He still sounded like the same calm, steady, unshakable man as always.
"Mrs. Reid, don’t be upset. You’ll only make yourself sick. Rest well at Foster’s estate for now. When things are settled on my end, I’ll come and bring you home."
Selina shut her eyes for a moment.
"Oh."
She hung up immediately after.
Selina was angry.
Logan had never once thought of asking her for help.
The media was spreading the most absurd rumors. If she came forward and spoke up, if she just made the effort, every single thing the imposter said would crumble on the spot.
But instead, he...
...
On the other end, Logan paused for a moment, then his lips softened into a gentle smile.
Jack’s face twisted with complicated emotions.
"Sir, Madam’s angry."
"Mm." Logan could tell.
Jack hesitated. "She’s probably upset that you haven’t asked her to help. Actually, Madam still really—"
"I know."
Logan’s voice was low, steady.
"But asking her for help would mean asking her to restore her face. That’s... dangerous."
Jack froze for a beat.
"But what if Madam’s willing?"
Everyone knew: the key reason the scandal had exploded, the reason the storm of public opinion had caught fire — was because the imposter testified for the Reid Family and Amelia.
It was the imposter who confirmed every fabricated accusation Amelia had made.
Because everyone already knew Logan’s relationship with the Reid Family was strained. Everyone knew he and Amelia had no love lost between them.
No matter how much Amelia or the Reids accused Logan of being unfilial, of disrespecting his parents, no one would have taken it seriously.
But Selina?
Ever since Angelica was exposed, Logan and Selina’s love story had been whispered about, envied, adored.
It was Logan who had pulled Selina out of the Clark Family’s filth. Logan who had saved her, who helped her take revenge, who helped her reclaim her inheritance.
Then it had been revealed Selina had once saved Logan’s life — their connection seemed like fate itself.
The drone light shows. The citywide fireworks.
Logan turning down wealthy socialites and corporate heiresses for her.
Logan even splitting his own shares in half to ensure Selina’s security, giving her half of everything.
Selina had stood up to the Reid Family for him again and again.
They’d rescued each other — they were unbreakable.
And now?
"Mrs. Reid" suddenly stood on Amelia’s side, agreeing with claims that Logan was unfilial, that he disrespected his elders, that he harmed his own brothers.
She spread whispers inside Reid Group that Logan was pocketing profits.
And then, in front of reporters, she stood there and accused Logan of cheating.
What would people think?
They’d think: Mrs. Reid once loved Logan so deeply. Why, out of nowhere, is she against him now?
Is it because Logan really hurt her?
Is it because the affair rumors are true?
In every way, it was the imposter, using Selina’s identity, who set this all in motion.
If Selina restored her face and reclaimed her name, it would all unravel.
But Logan had learned the truth —
The only way for her to restore her face immediately was to swallow a pill.
A pill with unknown effects.
A pill that might restore her face... but might damage her body beyond repair.
So Logan had refused. Instantly.
Logan’s voice was calm when he answered Jack:
"She might be willing. But I’m not."
"I won’t gamble with her life."
