Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'
Chapter 495: Her Man, Her Fight
CHAPTER 495: HER MAN, HER FIGHT
The imposter broke into a cold sweat, inwardly disgusted.
Joe had just promised to always protect her, claiming she was his biological daughter—
But the moment things went south, he was the first to throw her under the bus.
How could a man be this spineless?
"I..."
She barely got a word out before Selina cut her off sharply, her gaze shifting to Amelia like a blade.
"Since this ’Mrs. Reid’ turned out to be a fake, then everything she said about Logan being a killer doesn’t count. Wouldn’t you agree, Mrs. Perry?"
Amelia clenched her jaw, unwilling to concede. "Even if she’s fake, that doesn’t mean what she said—"
"Then what do you mean?"
Selina’s tone was cool and mocking. "A fake woman accused your ’biological son’ of murder. Now that the fraud’s been exposed, and you’re still not even a little suspicious it might’ve been slander? What kind of grudge do you hold that you’d rather see your own son branded a killer?"
"Or..." Her voice turned sharper. "Could it be that this little impersonation scheme was cooked up by you? People already said—if someone else accused Logan, no one might believe it. But if Mrs. Reid did it? That hits differently."
"Everyone knows how close I am with Logan. So if someone pretends to be me and accuses him, of course it sounds believable. And just like that, a fake me pops up, and both you and Owen pounce. Hard not to be suspicious—don’t you think?"
The room went silent again. All eyes shifted toward Amelia.
The drama between the two Selinas had already shocked everyone. And now Amelia’s behavior...
Sensing the wary glances, Amelia forced a smile. "Well, as the saying goes—better safe than sorry. I just didn’t want this to linger unresolved, only for someone to use it against Logan later."
"Oh, is that so?" Selina gave a soft laugh. "And here I thought you were doing it all for Owen."
Amelia’s expression tightened. "Of course not, Selina, don’t get the wrong idea. I’m doing this for Logan, too! And for the families of those two workers! A death like that can’t just be swept under the rug. Don’t you all agree?"
Reporters exchanged glances. The livestream chat went quiet with hesitation.
"Well... Mrs. Perry does have a point. Even if the imposter made it up, it’s still worth investigating, right?"
One relative from the Reid family murmured, "If it’s a misunderstanding, we can always apologize later. But it’s better to be safe than sorry. If Logan really caused those deaths... those families deserve justice."
Amelia seized the moment, eyes flashing. "Exactly! Selina, I’m Logan’s mother. I don’t want to see this escalate either. But no one’s been able to prove Logan’s innocence yet."
Selina’s gaze cooled. "And what do you propose, Mrs. Perry?"
Amelia’s intentions were crystal clear. "Here’s my suggestion: while the truth is being investigated, let Logan take a break from his duties. Owen can temporarily manage Reid Group. It’s best for everyone!"
Selina looked genuinely surprised. Even now, Amelia wasn’t giving up?
Amelia pressed on eagerly. "And if Logan is cleared, Owen can step down and return the chairman role. That way, the public won’t say anything either."
Director Cole couldn’t take it anymore and cut in coldly, "Even if an investigation is needed, we don’t need Young Master Owen slumming it at Reid Group."
Amelia acted like everything was going according to plan, chiding him playfully. "Now, now, Director Cole, don’t say that. An investigation could take months—at least three. Surely Reid Group can’t go without a chairman that long. So I think..."
"Who said this case was hard to investigate?" Selina asked slowly, her tone casual but sharp.
Amelia’s anger flared. "It is hard! Selina, who said you could speak here? What’s that supposed to mean? Are you and Logan both so heartless you don’t care about human lives—"
"Mrs. Perry."
Selina gave a cold laugh, her voice turning stern. "Three years ago, the police conducted a full investigation. With overwhelming evidence, HZ Group was held accountable. Nearly thirty people were charged, some imprisoned, some heavily fined. And now you want to overturn the case? Are you questioning the police’s credibility?"
Amelia panicked. "That’s not what I meant—"
"This happened three years ago. The victims’ families have only just begun to heal. But your cousin dragged people over to coerce them into lying and making false statements? What is that, Mrs. Perry? Who’s really disrespecting the victims here? Who won’t let them rest in peace?!"
Selina slammed the evidence on the table.
The room erupted in shock.
"Her cousin? Isn’t he from the Perry Family too? The Perry Family forced the victims’ families to frame Logan?!"
"Amelia staged a fake Mrs. Reid to report Logan, then sent her own cousin to bribe witnesses? She’s really trying to ruin Mr. Reid."
"But isn’t Amelia Mr. Reid’s own mother? What could she possibly gain from this?"
"Let’s not even assume she’s a real mother. The motive’s obvious—she wants Owen to take over."
"And look at Young Master Owen. The second his brother runs into a scandal, he’s drooling over Reid Group, which, by the way, Logan built from scratch without a single cent from the Reid family. The guy’s shameless."
Owen, unlike Amelia, didn’t have the patience to stay quiet. Furious that the plan had unraveled, he snapped.
"Shut the hell up! Bribes? Lies! You think you can insult me and get away with it? Shut your mouths—"
"Owen, you shut up!"
Amelia shouted, cutting him off in a panic, cold sweat forming on her back.
The moment Selina threw down those documents, Amelia knew things had gone south. The evidence was airtight—she couldn’t even come up with a half-decent excuse.
And now Owen was basically handing Logan a knife—one that would stab him right back. She had to stop it.
Owen stared, stunned that Amelia yelled at him. "Mom, what did I say wrong? It’s Logan who—"
"I said shut your mouth!"
Amelia inhaled deeply and forced a smile onto her face, trying to salvage what little ground she had left.
"Logan, what your uncle did was wrong, no question. But Owen and I didn’t know about it—we never intended for things to go this far. I’ll apologize on his behalf. But now that the truth is out, and no real harm was done, why don’t we just... let it go?"
"We’re all family. No need to make this uglier than it already is. You’re still the chairman of Reid Group, and we can’t let outsiders laugh at our expense."
Logan’s eyes narrowed with cold amusement. "Worried about being laughed at by outsiders?"
Amelia tried to keep calm. "Exactly. The Reid Family has a reputation. What if people start talking about how the brothers are at each other’s throats? It would be humiliating!"
Selina tilted her head, expression curious. "Then what does Mrs. Perry suggest? How do we make sure the public doesn’t find out?"
Hearing that, Amelia finally relaxed. She figured Selina, having just been impersonated, must also feel embarrassed and wouldn’t want the story to blow up any further.
Her tone turned smug, lofty. "Simple. Pay the reporters. Get them to shut their mouths. Problem solved."
