CHAPTER 499: A SICKENING PIECE OF NEWS

Selina led him through winding alleys to a small restaurant. "I told you yesterday I’d take you to the best spot. I used to come here all the time for a free meal."

Logan chuckled. "Free meal?"

He could picture it—little Selina, clever as a fox, flashing those big eyes and innocent smile. Who could ever say no?

Selina ordered her favorite dishes from back then. Logan had tasted the finest cuisines around the world, and while this wasn’t the most refined, he understood why she loved it. This place was soaked in memories—two of the happiest, most carefree years of her life. And when you’re happy, everything tastes better.

After eating, they decided to walk home. Halfway there, light rain began to fall.

"It’s not far," Selina said lazily, not bothering to dodge the drizzle. "Just past this alley, take a turn, then another three hundred meters and we’re home. Let’s just walk it."

Logan had no objections.

But after a few more steps, they came to a stop.

The path ahead wasn’t paved with stones. Now soaked, the dirt had turned to thick mud. Crossing it would be a mess.

Selina sighed. "We can take the long way, but it’s pretty far. And it’s raining. Maybe we should—"

"I’ll carry you," Logan said softly.

"What?" Selina blinked, thinking she misheard.

"I’ll carry you," he repeated, already crouching down. "Come on."

She hesitated, a little embarrassed—but then climbed on.

His back was broad and warm, solid like a mountain.

Selina rested her cheek against his shoulder. "Logan, I don’t let just anyone carry me."

He let out a quiet laugh. "It’s an honor to carry Mrs. Reid."

She hugged his neck tighter. "Take a hot shower when we get back. You’re soaked. And I’m sure your shoes are disgusting."

His tone was warm, unbothered by her fussing. "Alright. But I’ve walked roads like this before. It doesn’t bother me."

"There’s so much I don’t know about your past," she murmured.

He gave a faint chuckle, voice quiet under the rain. "Want to know? I’ll tell you anything."

She paused, then shook her head.

She wanted to—but she also knew his past came with scars. Scars she didn’t want to tear open.

"No need to worry about that," Logan said gently. "Those things can’t hurt me anymore."

His voice was light, his tone calm.

"Just like you, my life isn’t as tragic as it might seem."

She was curious. "Oh?"

"Reid Family and Carter Family both thought I was weak before I gained power. Owen’s proudest memory is bullying me before I turned eighteen."

"But if I were really that easy to push around," Logan said calmly, "how could I have taken over at eighteen?"

"To me, those struggles weren’t tragedies. Meanwhile, Amelia and Owen were already celebrating."

Selina understood now. Whether it was being discarded, locked away, or underestimated—none of it had broken him. It was all part of a larger plan, a path toward power.

But Amelia and Owen had mistaken his endurance for defeat—and spent years relishing it.

She hugged him tightly, whispering, "Well, now you’ve got me."

Logan raised an eyebrow. "Is Mrs. Reid feeling sorry for me?"

She answered honestly. "You might talk about it lightly, and maybe you didn’t let it get to you—but pain is pain. What you went through was real."

So yes—she did feel sorry for him. And proud of him, too.

He heard what she wasn’t saying.

Neither of them spoke as he carried her through the rain, across the muddy path, and back home.

Uncle Ford urged them both to take a hot shower as soon as they got home. After spending two nights in BW Town, Selina and Logan were ready to head back.

Since Sapphire Valley Villa was still under renovation, Logan decided to bring her to Pear Blossom Estate instead.

After the shareholders’ meeting, Logan had disappeared for two days. Once he returned, he dove right back into work.

By the time he got home, Selina was nearly asleep. "I heard some news today," he said. "Wanna know what it is?"

Selina yawned, clearly not that interested. "Tell me tomorrow. I’m going to sleep."

Logan chuckled softly. "Hmm... but I’m afraid if you find out tomorrow, you’ll regret not hearing it tonight."

Selina blinked sleepily. "Alright, go ahead."

Logan nodded. "Jack’s been keeping an eye on the Morris Family and that fake ever since we went to BW Town. While we were gone, the Morris Family made a big announcement internally."

Selina rested her chin on her hand, voice lazy. "And?"

She sounded totally indifferent, like the Morris Family and the imposter meant nothing to her.

Logan paused for a moment, then said with a hint of amusement, "Joe announced that the fake is actually his other daughter. He gave her the Morris surname. Her name now is Angela Morris."

Selina: "..."

She raised an eyebrow. Yeah, if she’d found out about that tomorrow, she would’ve been annoyed.

Angela? That name, showing up under the label of "Morris Family’s newly returned daughter," was... something else.

She asked directly, "Who picked the name? Or was that already her real name?"

Logan’s tone was deliberate. "Hannah picked it. Though Grandma Morris had a hand in it too."

Hannah and Grandma Morris. Of course.

Selina instantly felt she wasn’t overthinking it. Angela and Angelica—those names were way too similar. Those two women were clearly being petty and disgusting on purpose.

Selina frowned. "We found out the imposter came from the Hill Family, and that probably ties back to Hannah. Maybe Hannah is actually her biological mother."

"She must’ve had a name before. But now, even after I’ve exposed her, instead of letting her reclaim her real identity, Hannah gives her a new name, just to keep her in the Morris Family?"

"What does Angela even mean to Hannah?"

Logan sneered. "Joe couldn’t get in touch with you, so he had someone reach out to Jack today. He’s trying to invite you to a Morris Family dinner."

Selina didn’t even hesitate. "Not going."

Logan nodded. "I told Jack to ignore it. But Joe won’t let it go."

He looked at her. "Joe seems to have some strange obsession with you. Even though Angela is now his ’daughter’ too—Victoria’s ’daughter’—his fixation is still on you."

Selina felt physically sick.

Also, what the hell was wrong with Hannah? Making her own daughter call another woman ’Mom’?

No way. She wasn’t about to let her mother be dragged into the same mess with people that disgusting.
