CHAPTER 231: FIRST BIRTHDAY

APRIL 26th.

That was the day Kim Woochul and Kim Woosung were born.

And today was the twins’ first birthday.

Sohee got emotional.

I can’t believe my babies are already one year old.

"Hyung, are you crying?"

"No, I’m not," Sohee said, smiling while shaking his head. "I just can’t believe that Woochul and Woosung are already a year old. And, now, it’s time for their doljabi."

’Doljabi’ is a tradition where the child— the birthday celebrant, of course— is placed in front of various items to choose from. The child is then encouraged to grab at least one item from the set of objects in front of them.

Apparently, the child’s choice would represent their future career or lifestyle.

"I hope our babies grab the gold piggy bank."

Kim Heedo laughed softly at what Sohee said. "I knew you’d say that, Hyung."

The twins’ birthday celebration was being held at Hanuel Hote’s Grand Hall.

They still had an hour left before the party began.

I just came here to check that everything is in order.

Although it was the Grand Hall, Sohee doubted their guests could fill the entire place.

After all, they only invited their family and closest friends.

My sons are the successors of the Ilsung Group, so I know socializing with people with the same background is important for their future. But Woochul and Woosung are still babies. They won’t remember a grand party with strangers around them. That’s why I want them to celebrate their birthdays with family and friends for now.

Sohee was grateful that Kim Heedo and his in-laws respected his decision.

I just hope I’m not ruining my babies’ future as chaebols.

"Hyung, what item did you grab for your doljabi?"

"A pen," Sohee said, smiling. Of course, he didn’t remember a thing from his first birthday. But his grandfather often talked about his doljabi in the past. Moreover, there were pictures from the ceremony. "Grandfather actually wanted me to be a civil servant because he thought I was going to be good at studying."

"Well, you still found a career related to the item you picked since you became a webtoon artist," Kim Heedo said, wrapping an arm around Sohee’s waist. "I grabbed a one billion won check during my doljabi."

He almost choked on his saliva.

I know my husband is a chaebol, but isn’t one billion still a bit too much?!

"It was Grandfather’s birthday gift for me," Kim Heedo explained when he noticed that Sohee was too shocked to say anything. "He was so happy that his first grandchild was a male. At the time, Shaman Jung’s master was the one serving our family. He predicted that I’d manifest as an Alpha. So, my grandfather went all out."

"I get that it was your grandfather’s gift," Sohee said, knitting his eyebrows. "Did Chairman Kim put that one billion won check among the items to choose from for your doljabi?"

"Yep. Grandfather said that if I picked up the check, then it must mean that I was destined to inherit the company. My grandfather doted on me so much that I thought he would bypass my father if I asked him to make me his direct successor."

"If your life story were a makjang, then I bet Father-in-law would have turned evil because of envy towards you."

"Hyung, you really can’t quit watching soap operas, huh?"

"I tried to. But how could I do that when Baek Semin-ssi kept making hit makjangs? I still can’t believe that I’m now friends with the Makjang King."

But maybe he should stop calling Baek Semin the ’Makjang King.’

After all, Baek Semin-ssi is starting to become big as a mainstream actor.

Sohee noticed that Kim Heedo suddenly felt quiet.

When he turned to his husband, he noticed that he was frowning.

No— he’s actually sulking.

"Yeobo, what’s wrong?"

"Hyung likes Baek Semin a little too much," Kim Heedo complained lightly, pouting. "You watch his morning drama religiously, and you always talk about him with Hong Sera."

Pfft.

How cute.

"I watch his morning drama because the storyline is trash. A makjang is no good if it doesn’t make your blood boil because of stupid characters," Sohee explained patiently. "And when Sera and I talk about Baek Semin-ssi, it’s called gossiping. Heedo-ya, we’re just gossiping about Sera’s love life. I’m not interested in Baek Semin-ssi as a person. I just like him as an actor and Sera’s potential new boyfriend."

Fortunately, that seemed to appease Kim Heedo.

To be honest, Sohee used to be annoyed when his husband acted jealous, even though he had nothing to be jealous about.

But, these days, I find it entertaining.

Maybe Sohee had already gotten used to Kim Heedo’s love.

No, it’s not that I got used to it— I accepted it wholeheartedly by now.

"I love you, Heedo-ya."

Kim Heedo looked pleasantly surprised by what Sohee said because his face beamed. "I love you, too, Hyung."

Sohee smiled and was about to close his eyes because it was the perfect time for them to kiss, but...

"Mama!"

"Dada!"

The door to the Grand Hall opened.

Kim Woochul and Kim Woosung entered the hall while being carried by their nannies. Their twins’ bodyguards, led by Kang Sul, followed behind.

Sohee signaled the nannies that it was okay to leave the children with them.

He picked up Kim Woosung while Kim Heedo carried Kim Woochul in his arms.

His husband then ordered the bodyguards to leave the room.

And, now, only their little family was left there.

"Oh my god. Woosung-ah, Woochul-ah, you’re so cute," Sohee fussed over their babies. "You look so adorable in your hanbok."

Yes, the twins were wearing traditional hanboks for babies their age.

Of course, Sohee and Kim Heedo would also wear hanboks later.

"We should get changed and take pictures before the ceremony, Hyung," Kim Heedo said in between showering Kim Woochul with kisses on the face. "Yeonwoo Hyung and Yang Jaewon are already here anyway."

Heh.

So, Yeonwoo and Yang Jaewon are already dating, huh?

There were only Cho Euntak and Hong Sera to worry about.

I should marry off those two as soon as possible.

"Mama, kiss," Kim Woosung whined while gently patting Sohee’s cheeks with his tiny hands. "Woosung-ah wants kisses, Mama."

Aww!

Sohee’s heart melted when he heard Kim Woosung talk in third person.

So cute!

Yes, Kim Woosung and Kim Woochul both could make short but proper sentences now.

I’m telling you— kids just grow up so fast.

"Of course, baby," Sohee said, showering Kim Woosung with kisses. "I’ll give you as many kisses as you want!"

Kim Woosung giggled, and his baby’s giggles were music to his ears.

"Mama, Woochul wants kisses, too..."

Hmm?

When Sohee lifted his head, he laughed when he noticed that Kim Woochul and Kim Heedo had the same look on their faces.

They both want kisses from me!

Pfft.

Sohee leaned down to shower Kim Woochul with kisses on his small, round face.

Just like Kim Woosung earlier, Kim Woochul also giggled a lot while being kissed.

I love hearing my babies’ giggles.

"Me, too," Kim Heedo said, pouting. "I want Hyung’s kisses, too."

Aigoo.

Sohee lifted his head and chuckled when he saw the intensity in Kim Heedo’s eyes.

Does he feel competitive towards our own babies?

Alphas could really be illogical, huh?

However, that was a part of his husband that he had already decided to embrace.

Sohee smiled, tiptoed, and kissed Kim Heedo on the lips.

Just a quick peck since the babies are here.

***

GAVEL.

Stethoscope.

Fountain pen.

Soccer ball.

Microphone.

Golden piggy bank.

Those were the items that Sohee and Kim Heedo prepared for Kim Woochul and Kim Woosung’s doljabi.

They prepared two sets of items so that the twins wouldn’t fight over the same thing.

Now it’s time for the twins to choose their future careers.

It was uncomfortable to sit on the floor while wearing a traditional hanbok, but Sohee didn’t mind.

He sat there while holding Kim Woosung who was already raging to crawl.

Kim Heedo sat next to him while holding Kim Woochul who was just as excited as his twin brother.

The babies were in front of their respective doljabi tables.

"Hyung, are you ready?"

Sohee turned to Kim Heedo and smiled. "Yes, I’m ready."

Kim Heedo smiled back at him. "Then let’s release them in 3, 2, 1..."

Go!

Sohee and Kim Heedo released the twins at the same time.

Kim Woochul and Kim Woosung then crawled towards their respective doljabi tables while their family and friends were all cheering.

President Kang Nari and Vice Chairman Kim Dohan were on the side of Kim Woochul’s table while Go Gunjoon, Kim Haewon, and Kim Hanhae were on the side of Kim Woosung’s table. Each side was just as loud as the other while cheering the babies.

This is the first time I’ve seen Mother-in-law and Father-in-law this excited.

"Oh, Hyung...!"

Sohee understood Kim Heedo’s excited reaction because he also gasped out loud when Kim Woochul picked up the golden piggy bank.

Good job, baby!

Apparently, picking up the golden piggy bank meant his baby would be a future businessman.

Maybe Baby Woochul will be Heedo’s successor as a businessman?

Sohee got distracted when the side of Kim Woosung’s table got louder.

And it was because Kim Woosung picked up the (toy) microphone.

Aigoo!

Sohee clapped hard while grinning like a fool.

I love idols and soap operas, so maybe Baby Woosung is destined to be an idol or an actor? Or maybe an idol actor? I’m going to have a celebrity son in the future!

"Hyung, you look really happy with our babies’ choices."

Sohee turned to Kim Heedo with a silly smile on his face. "We will support what our children decide to do in the future as long as it’s not harmful to themselves or anyone else. But, for now, I’m happy thinking about Woochul as a successful businessman and Woosung as a famous celebrity."

Kim Heedo smiled and nodded. "I’m sure with Hyung’s guidance, Woosung and Woochul would grow up as kids we can be proud of."

***

IT WAS a long day for Sohee’s little family.

When they arrived home, they immediately got into the bed after taking a shower.

It’s a tiring yet fun day.

As usual, Woochul and Woosung slept between Sohee and Kim Heedo on their huge bumper bed.

It was cute how their babies brought the toys from their doljabi.

Kim Woochul was hugging his golden piggy bank while Kim Woosung was trying to put the microphone in his mouth.

But Kim Heedo was using his hand to block Kim Woosung’s mouth.

"Woosung-ah, that’s not food," Kim Heedo "scolded" their baby playfully. "You can’t eat that."

Aww.

It never failed to make Sohee’s heart melt every time he saw Kim Heedo acting like the good father that he was.

He still acts childishly sometimes, but he’s always serious when he’s in daddy mode.

And that got him thinking...

A responsible man is extra hot.

"Hyung, your pheromones..."

"Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll keep it under control."

"No, it’s alright. No need to apologize, Hyung," Kim Heedo said, blushing. And, to probably help both of them calm down, he changed the topic. "Hyung, Grandfather sent a gift for Woochul and Woosung."

"It’s not a check with one billion won, is it?" Sohee asked nervously. "Please tell me it’s not."

"Don’t worry, it’s not money."

"What is it then?"

"Duck toys."

Oh.

"Chairman Kim probably heard that we have a collection of goose toys for our babies..." Sohee paused for a moment when he realized that Kim Heedo looked hesitant. "What is it, yeobo? Did Chairman Kim send other toys?"

"No," Kim Heedo said, pausing for a moment. "But the duck toys are made out of gold, Hyung."

Aigoo.
