Chapter 107: Silence is An Answer
CHAPTER 107: SILENCE IS AN ANSWER
Daisy was stiff the whole night with Theo by her side, but she didn’t know when she fell asleep. The last thing she recalled was Theo gently raising her head, placing it on his arm, and pulling her closer.
She frowned at the sharp sunlight that slipped through the curtains, but before she could turn away, the brightness dimmed. Blinking her eyes open, she realized Theo’s palm was shielding her face from the rays. That was when it hit her, they were too close and were hugging each other.
"Good morning." Theo tightened the arm wrapped beneath her, making sure she couldn’t suddenly pull away.
Daisy’s face slowly turned red as she instinctively pressed against his chest, trying to escape. "This is not a good morning for me... waking up with your face an inch from mine."
Theo smiled and only nodded in understanding. "Okay."
He slowly pulled his arm out from under her head, and Daisy’s eyes widened in surprise. She hadn’t expected that. For some reason, she thought he would stubbornly keep holding her instead of letting go so easily.
He sat up and looked at her, then suddenly muttered, "I guess... at least the ring suits your liking. I’m glad it fit your finger."
Daisy froze. The ring. She had almost forgotten about it, the one Theo had thrown away. She’d picked it up afterward and slipped it on in secret, never intending for him to notice. Instinctively, she covered her hand under the blanket, hiding the finger that betrayed her.
"Throw that one." His voice was low, and he didn’t sound like he was joking. He turned and got off the bed. "I’ll buy you another one."
Daisy’s chest tightened. She gripped the blanket as if it could shield her from his words. "I don’t need another one," she muttered. "This one is fine."
Theo’s eyes darkened, his jaw tightening. "That one was already rubbish."
Her eyes flicked up, sharp. "Yes, so I picked up the rubbish you threw away and that means you don’t get to say anything about it anymore. It’s mine now, and if I want to wear it, I will."
Theo’s lips curved into a cold smile, though his eyes were anything but amused. "Of course. That’s exactly you... wearing a ring from a man you claim you’ll never have a child with. Tell me, Daisy, is that how you convince yourself I’m the enemy?"
"And what about you?" Daisy shot back, her voice trembling with anger. "Knowing full well that I came for revenge... that I’m the one who’ll eventually stab you in the back...why would you ever want a child with me?!"
Theo’s expression hardened, but he didn’t look away. His jaw clenched, his voice low and steady. "Because even if you came here to destroy me, I still want every piece of you. Even the part that hates me."
Daisy’s breath caught, her chest rising and falling rapidly. "So that’s it, then?" Her voice cracked as her eyes burned into his. "You’re admitting it? That you really did it...that you’re the one who ruined my father’s business?"
The silence stretched, pressing down on her until she could hardly breathe. Daisy’s nails dug into the blanket, her heart hammering against her ribs. If he would just say it, admit it, then she could hate him properly. She could hold onto that hate like a shield and never let herself falter.
But Theo only stood there, unflinching, letting her accusation hang in the air unanswered.
Her throat tightened. "Your silence is an answer," she whispered, more to herself than to him. "You don’t even deny it."
Theo’s eyes flickered, a brief crack in his mask, but his voice came out flat. "Believe what you need to, Daisy."
The words struck harder than any confession. It was as if he had placed the knife in her hand himself, daring her to cut deeper.
Daisy turned her face away, blinking back the sting in her eyes. If she let herself cry now, it would only prove how much power he still had over her.
Theo finally broke their stare and turned toward the bathroom. His steps were calm, too calm, as if her words hadn’t pierced him at all.
"Stop." Daisy’s voice came out sharper than she intended, and before she could think, she rushed after him, grabbing his wrist. Her grip was weak compared to his, but desperate enough to make him pause. "Let’s end this, Theo. Stop dragging it out. End this marriage... let’s make it official and divorce."
For a moment, his back stayed turned, shoulders stiff. Then, slowly, he glanced over his shoulder, his eyes burning with anger.
"Divorce?" His voice was quiet, almost mocking. "Don’t you want to get revenge for your father?"
"What’s the point?" Daisy lifted her chin, meeting the blaze in Theo’s eyes. "The one I wanted revenge on already knew. The enemy is untouchable."
Theo let out a sharp scoff, tilting his head back as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. "Fine. Go on then," he said, his voice low but laced with steel. "Do whatever you plan to do. Tear me apart, hate me, drag me through hell if that’s what you want."
His gaze locked on hers, unwavering. "I’ll accept all of it... as long as you stay by my side."
Daisy’s lips parted, but no words came out. To her, his words didn’t sound like surrender, they sounded like mockery. What could she possibly do to Theo Kingsley? A man who moved the world with a flick of his finger. Even the secrets she thought she’d buried deep were always dragged into the light, as if he had eyes everywhere.
Her chest tightened, frustration clawing at her ribs. To him, maybe it was all just a game. To her, it was her entire life crumbling piece by piece.
"Is it fun for you?" Daisy’s voice cracked, trembling against the silence. Her eyes glistened as she forced the words out. "Watching me fight, watching me fall apart, when you already know I’ll never win against you?"
For a moment, she thought he might answer, but the stillness between them only deepened, pressing like a weight on her chest. Daisy let out a shaky breath, her lips twisting in a broken smile.
"Maybe I’m just a dumbass... to think I ever stood a chance from the start."
