Chapter 122: Doubting The Love
CHAPTER 122: DOUBTING THE LOVE
Daisy stirred awake, her body sluggish, her lips dry. She blinked against the white light until Aurora’s familiar face came into focus.
"Aurora?" Daisy’s voice was hoarse, as she tried to shift her position.
Aurora quickly got up from her seat and leaned closer. "No, no, don’t move..." Her voice cracked. She blinked a few times, too hard and obvious, before turning her face away, avoiding Daisy’s eyes.
Confusion tightened Daisy’s chest. "What happened?"
Aurora swallowed, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her sleeve. "The doctor said you... you lost the baby." Her words trembled, as though saying them made the truth sharper.
Daisy’s breath hitched. Her hands instinctively went to her stomach, trembling. "No..." The word broke out in a whisper.
Aurora’s eyes glistened. She hesitated before blurting out, her voice barely steady, "Is it true? Did you... really eat something to get rid of it?"
For a moment, the sterile silence of the room seemed to press in on them. Daisy turned her head slowly, her gaze empty, hollow. "Do you believe it?"
Aurora’s lips parted, then shut. She shook her head hard, though her voice betrayed her wavering heart. "I don’t want to. But it feels like... in just a single day, too many things happened at once, Daisy. And I know you, I do... but Theo..." She faltered, her chest heaving. "It seems like... he believes you did it."
Daisy closed her eyes, tears slipping free despite her weakness. Her body felt colder than the sheets wrapped around her.
"Where is he?" she asked, her voice faint but steady, as though forcing herself to stay calm.
Aurora drew in a shaky breath. "The police called. They’re holding George now."
For a fleeting second, Daisy’s chest loosened, a shaky breath of relief escaping her lips. But the feeling quickly soured, replaced by the ache that had already carved itself deep inside her.
"Why has this happened to me, Aurora? You know what I’ve been feeling the day after I told him I loved him?" She paused, her lips trembling, her eyes staring into nothing. "I felt like... I could finally have someone to depend on. The one I could trust, lean on, even when everything else was falling apart."
Her voice cracked, the words almost choking her. "But fate really wouldn’t let me be happy for long. He must hate me so much right now."
Aurora squeezed her hand, desperate, her own eyes red and swollen. "If you didn’t do it, just tell him... I’m sure he could understand..."
Daisy let out a bitter laugh, then shook her head. "No... after all, I feel like it was my fault. I didn’t do better. I should’ve protected the baby with all my life..."
Aurora tightened her grip, her voice trembling. "You did, Daisy. You were under so much stress. Even without the pill or whatever caused the miscarriage... the doctor said the baby was already at high risk. It was too early... too fragile. And then George... everything he did... the shock, the fear... you couldn’t control that. It wasn’t your fault."
Aurora brushed away one of Daisy’s tears with her thumb, her voice soft but steady. "Listen to me... you’re blaming yourself for something that wasn’t in your hands." She took a seat at the edge of the bed and pulled Daisy into a warm embrace, "Explain to Theo after this, and I believe he will understand it."
"Hmm..." Daisy nodded, returning the embrace.
Meanwhile, the situation at the police station was tense. Theo had been staring at George like he could kill him with just his eyes.
"What? Is there something on my face?" George smirked, running his cuffed hands across his cheeks as if to check.
Theo’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching at his sides. Every muscle in his body begged him to cross the table and wipe that smug grin off George’s face.
"You think this is funny?" Theo’s voice was low, dangerous.
"What’s wrong with you? I didn’t do anything." George tilted his head slightly before continuing, "After I brought her to the villa, she fainted. I asked the doctor to check on her, and that’s how we found out about her pregnancy. Then I decided to return her to you. Well... I don’t play with secondhand items, and definitely not with babies either, you know."
It was an obvious lie. George had only grown better at twisting the truth, savoring the satisfaction of watching someone he hated writhe in heartache.
"You... just attempted murder, and you dare say you didn’t do anything?" Theo ground his teeth, forcing himself to hold back his rage.
"Oh, attempted?" George arched a brow, feigning surprise. "He’s still alive? Woah... what a tough nut!"
Theo lunged forward, seizing George’s collar in a white-knuckled grip. "Bastard!" he snarled.
"Mr. Kingsley, please... control yourself!" Han, his lawyer, rushed to his side, tugging at his arm, desperate to pull him back before he did something irreversible.
George chuckled low, enjoying every second. "Look at you... already falling apart. I didn’t even have to lift a finger this time."
Theo’s grip tightened, his knuckles whitening as the metal chair screeched against the floor. His voice shook with suppressed fury. "You’ll rot for what you’ve done. I swear it."
George leaned in, his smirk widening despite the chokehold. "Me, rotting? No... I think you’ll rot first. Knowing the fact that your wife aborted your baby..." His voice dropped lower, each word deliberate, taunting, pressing on the deepest wound.
Theo froze for a heartbeat, his chest heaving as the words cut deeper than any blade. His jaw clenched so hard it hurt.
"You know what surprised me the most?" George tilted his head, eyes gleaming with mock pity. "When the doctor told her, she looked shocked and said, No... no, this can’t be true... I’ll make sure I eat the pill after..."
He puffed his cheeks and blew out the air in mock imitation, then covered his mouth, laughing under his breath. "Oh, poor Theo Kingsley... your own wife didn’t even want a baby with you."
Theo’s grip trembled, not from weakness but from the sheer effort of not snapping George’s neck right there. His vision tunneled, blood pounding in his ears, every muscle screaming to end this once and for all.
"I swear..." George continued, raising his hands as if in surrender, though his smirk betrayed the mockery. "I didn’t know she asked for a pill from the doctor..."
The words sliced through Theo like jagged glass. His breath hitched, fury and disbelief colliding in his chest.
George chuckled low, leaning closer, his voice laced with poison. "Tell me, Theo... are you even sure she loves you? Or are you the only fool clinging to the dream?" His smile widened, cruel and triumphant. "Funny thing is, I barely had to lift two fingers..." he raised a peace sign "to come between you two. She did half the work herself."
Theo’s vision blurred red. For a split second, all he wanted was to shut that smirk permanently. But instead, he stood frozen because George’s words burrowing deeper than any blade could.
