CHAPTER 145: CHAPTER 145: YOU MUST SURVIVE, DO YOU HEAR ME? (PART 1)
"Ethan Sterling!"
Seraphina Thorne cried out, stumbling down the grassy slope, rolling and crawling until she reached Ethan Sterling’s side, clutching his arm.
"How are you? Don’t scare me!"
Ethan lay on the grass, his head covered in blood, eyes tightly shut.
"You’ll be fine, you will..." Seraphina shakily fished out her phone from her bag, "I’ll call right away... I’ll find someone to save you..."
People gathered on the grassy slope.
An ambulance and traffic police quickly arrived, lifting Ethan onto a stretcher.
Someone rushed over and took hold of Seraphina’s arm, but she shook them off.
Clambering up the grassy slope using both hands and feet, she followed behind the medical staff, trying to climb into the ambulance.
"Miss!" a paramedic stopped her, "You need treatment."
"No... I need to be with him, I must be with him..." Seraphina desperately climbed into the ambulance, "Please, save him, save him quickly, I’m begging you... why aren’t you rescuing him?"
The paramedics exchanged glances, a look of sympathy in their eyes, as one of them gently held her shoulder in comfort.
"Don’t worry, we’ll get him to the hospital as soon as possible."
The ambulance started, speeding towards the nearest hospital.
Seraphina knelt by his side, gripping Ethan’s hand tightly.
"Ethan, promise me... you must live... do you hear me?"
Between her fingers, the man’s hand was so cold.
In her memory, his hand was always warm.
That warmth made Seraphina’s heart feel as if it were sinking to the bottom of a lake, constricting so much she could scarcely breathe.
"You promised me... you promised to give me a wedding, you can’t break your word, or else... I... I will never forgive you..."
By the end, she was in tears, unable to speak.
The ambulance drove into the hospital, stopping at the emergency center entrance.
Medical staff rushed over, and together they wheeled Ethan into the emergency center.
Seraphina, her leg injured and ignoring the pain, limped to the emergency operating room, only to be stopped by the medical staff.
"Miss, you can’t go in."
The cold iron door of the operating room closed tightly, separating her from Ethan.
Seraphina weakly stepped back two steps, squatting down against the wall, pressing her blood-stained hands to her head.
"Ma’am!" Sean Hale rushed over quickly in the corridor, "How is Mr. Sterling?"
Seraphina hung her head, gently shaking it.
"I don’t know, he... his head is covered in blood just like dad’s, but I... I can’t do anything."
Sean looked up from the operating room to Seraphina.
The girl was covered in blood, her knees bleeding, her whole body trembling.
Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Sean walked over to help her up.
"Let’s go, I’ll take you to get your wounds treated first."
"I’m fine." Seraphina pulled her arm back, withdrawing to her original spot, her voice choked but firm, "I want to stay here with him, I want to wait for him to come out, I won’t leave him!"
After staring at her for a moment, Sean sighed softly.
He could only turn around to find a nurse to help treat Seraphina’s wounds on the spot.
Taking off his own coat, he draped it over her shoulders.
Sean’s gaze lingered on the lit light of the operating room for a moment.
"Do you think... should we notify the Sterling Family?"
Seraphina didn’t even hear what he was saying, only turning her face, her eyes fixed on the direction of the operating room.
The disinfectant swab brushed over her wounds, but the pain seemed to go unnoticed.
At this moment, Seraphina resembled a shell bereft of a soul.
Knowing she was in a complete state of collapse, Sean decided not to consult her further.
Turning to the side of the corridor, he took out his phone and dialed Arthur Sterling’s number.
Sean knew that Ethan didn’t like his father and was even unwilling to acknowledge Arthur as his father.
However, no matter what, Ethan was still the Sterling Family’s child.
With such a major incident, he had to inform the Sterling Family.
"What did you say?" Arthur’s voice, overly tense, was noticeably sharp, "What happened to Ethan?"
"Sir had a very serious car accident; he’s in the operating room now."
Sean briefly explained the situation, being mindful not to say words like "life or death" due to the potential impact on Arthur.
Even without saying it, Arthur had already guessed.
If it weren’t serious, as Ethan’s assistant, Sean would never contact him.
"Sean, I’m flying there immediately. Listen to me very carefully..." Arthur’s voice trembled, his control slipping, "Find the best doctors for him, even if you have to bring in doctors from all over the world, I want him alive, do you understand?"
"Don’t worry, I understand."
Sean hung up the call and returned to the front of the operating room.
He stood by Seraphina’s side, waiting alongside her.
The wait extended over four hours.
Throughout the four hours, Seraphina barely changed her posture.
Until the operating room light finally went out, she snapped up like a puppet that had suddenly been switched on.
Standing too quickly, her head spun from the rushed movement.
Her body swayed, nearly falling.
Fortunately, Sean was quick-eyed and steady-handed, catching her in time.
The operating room’s door had opened, and a doctor emerged.
Seraphina was the first to rush over, grabbing the doctor’s arm.
"Tell me he’s still alive, he’s still alive, right?"
The doctor pulled down the mask, nodding gently.
"He’s still alive."
The tension in her heart finally eased, and Seraphina’s body went limp, collapsing weakly.
Without having eaten dinner and having waited here for hours, she had been holding on by sheer willpower, her body already at its limit.
When Seraphina awoke again, it was already the early hours of the next day.
Opening her eyes, she stared blankly at the ceiling for a moment.
Realizing where she was, she bolted upright.
"Miss!" A nurse entered, hastily pressing her arm, "Careful, you’re still under treatment."
Seraphina felt the pain in her arm, turning her head to notice the drip needle still in her hand.
"Where’s Ethan?"
Anxious, she spoke in Chinese.
Seeing the nurse’s perplexed expression, she switched to English.
"The gentleman who was in the car accident with me, the one with the surgery, where is he?"
"He’s in the ICU upstairs, with doctors and nurses taking care of him. You don’t need to worry. What you need now is..."
Before the nurse could finish, Seraphina had already jumped out of bed.
Grabbing the rack with the IV fluid, she bolted out the door barefoot, without even putting on shoes.
Failing to find the elevator, Seraphina dashed up the staircase, glancing around.
Spotting Sean standing in the corridor, talking to two men, she turned and ran over.
"Where’s Ethan... where’s Ethan?"
