Marvel: A Portal to the World of Swallowed Star
Chapter 35 35: The Power of a Warrior Candidate
The next day, just as agreed, Killian delivered the Extremis virus serum.
Rowan received three vials, while Killian took away a batch of Kroluminum alloy.
With the Extremis samples in hand, Rowan returned to the world of Swallowed Star, but he didn't rush into testing them.
The serum was too volatile. It needed to be tested on someone already at the warrior level.
He was still too weak. If he rushed to test it on someone and the subject died, the consequences would be severe.
The Security Bureau didn't take such matters lightly.
Without becoming a true warrior, Rowan didn't even qualify for protection from the Limit Martial Arts Dojo.
After weighing the risks, Rowan decided to postpone the experiment and focus entirely on his training.
Power was the only truth in this world. He needed to become a warrior first.
And so, Rowan spent another three days in deep cultivation.
That weekend, after delivering another 100,000 tons of rice to Howard Zhou, he drove straight to the Limit Dojo for another test.
This time, his punching power reached 822 kilograms, and his speed was measured at 20 meters per second.
After the test, Rowan met with Director Norris for a private lesson to further refine his striking technique.
Later, he sparred with Luo Feng once again.
This time, Rowan defeated him even faster than he had the week before.
From then on, Rowan settled into a steady routine.
By day, he trained in the Swallowed Star world, feasting on beast meat and soaking in medicinal baths. By night, he returned to the Marvel world to oversee progress at his company.
He also kept an eye on Ivan Vanko through surveillance. The scientist was clearly up to something, but Rowan chose not to intervene yet.
A month passed quickly.
On this day, Rowan returned to the Limit Dojo for another round of testing.
Luo Feng, Yang Wu, and several other advanced students were there.
They all gathered around the punching power machine, eager to watch Rowan's test.
No one could hide their curiosity. Would Rowan finally break through and reach the threshold of a warrior candidate?
Last week, his punching force had hit 881 kilograms, and his speed clocked in at 23.2 meters per second.
He was just 19 kilograms short of the standard for a warrior candidate.
Given his rapid progress, many believed he would break through the 900-kilogram barrier today.
"Rowan, I didn't expect you to improve so quickly," Director Norris said, visibly impressed. "With your level of talent, you've got a real shot at making it into our foundation training camp."
He truly hadn't seen this coming.
Originally, he thought Rowan would need at least a year to reach the threshold for a warrior candidate.
But Rowan had done it in less than two months.
The surrounding students, including Luo Feng and Yang Wu, exchanged puzzled glances.
"Director, what's the foundation training camp?" Luo Feng asked, unable to contain his curiosity.
Director Norris glanced around at the students and smiled.
"Since you're asking, I might as well explain. The Limit Dojo has two elite training programs. One is the Foundation Training Camp. The other is the Elite Training Camp."
He continued, "The Foundation Training Camp recruits gifted warrior candidates from around the world. Those selected sign a special development contract and receive the best training available.
"But the Elite Training Camp that's on a whole other level. It's the top-ranked program globally, often referred to as the 'God of War Pre-Selection Camp.' Only those with truly exceptional talent get in.
"Each year, our Jiangnan Base City is allocated just ten spots for the Foundation Training Camp. As for the Elite Camp, we only get two or three."
The students went silent, eyes wide with disbelief.
Jiangnan Base City had a population of over 200 million.
Out of countless geniuses, only ten made it into the Foundation Training Camp each year.
And for the Elite Camp? Just two or three.
It was staggering to think about the standards these programs must uphold.
"Director, does that mean anyone who graduates from the Foundation Training Camp is at least a War General-level warrior?" a civilian student asked.
Director Norris nodded.
"Exactly. In fact, most of the War General-level leaders across the Limit Dojo's global branches are graduates of the Foundation Camp."
A collective gasp followed.
Everyone turned to look at Rowan with a mix of awe, envy, and disbelief.
War Generals were the backbone of every organization military, martial, or corporate.
In smaller districts like Yi'an, a single War General could dominate the region, their word enough to shape countless lives.
And now it seemed Rowan had the potential to join their ranks.
Some students had already begun thinking about how to build stronger ties with him.
Luo Feng's heart pounded. His fists clenched. A spark of determination lit in his eyes.
He wanted to rise like Rowan, to break free of his circumstances, and change his family's fate.
But Rowan himself felt no particular excitement.
War Generals, "Gods of War" in the end, they were still far from planetary-class warriors. All of them were still just trainees in the grand scheme of things.
"I'm ready to begin," Rowan said to Director Norris.
"Good." The instructor nodded, his anticipation growing.
Rowan inhaled deeply, settled into a bow stance, and gathered all his strength.
After over a month of rigorous training, his striking technique had improved significantly.
Every day, with Friday's assistance, he had adjusted and refined his form.
He had already mastered most of what Director Norris had taught him.
Rowan drew back like a bow, then released a punch like an arrow, striking the power meter with a sharp thud.
The machine buzzed and trembled, and the numbers began to climb.
903 kg.
Silence fell.
Then the room erupted.
"He did it!"
"Warrior candidate power!"
"903 kilos Rowan, you're incredible!"
The advanced students seemed more excited than Rowan himself.
He looked at the number on the screen and allowed himself a quiet smile.
Director Norris was just as thrilled.
Since taking over the Yi'an District branch, he had never seen a student with talent like Rowan's.
Sixteen years old, and already punching with the strength of a warrior candidate.
Even across the whole Jiangnan Base City, this level was considered top-tier.
"Excellent, Rowan. Your striking technique has improved immensely," he praised.
He could tell that Rowan's strength didn't just come from physical growth. His mastery of technique had advanced just as rapidly.
"It's all thanks to your guidance, Director," Rowan replied gratefully.
Over the past month, Director Norris had spent a lot of time helping him refine his power. Without that support, his improvement would never have been so fast.
The instructor's smile widened.
With Rowan's potential, he would certainly become a War General someday maybe even reach the level of a God of War. Building a strong relationship now could only be beneficial.
"Come with me. Let's test your speed."
Director Norris was now even more hopeful.
If Rowan's speed met the warrior candidate benchmark too, the results could be extraordinary.
He led Rowan into the next hall for a sprint test.
Soon, the display lit up with Rowan's current speed.
