Marvel: A Portal to the World of Swallowed Star
Chapter 43 43: Awakening: The Mind Adept
Rowan sat cross-legged, his heart pounding with awe as he felt the astonishing changes coursing through his body.
No wonder they say the first time cultivating Genetic Primal Energy brings the fastest surge in power.
The transformation was nothing short of earth-shattering.
He could clearly sense his bone density increasing, his muscle fibers refining, and even his body weight climbing all subtle signs of a deeper, more profound evolution.
Unbeknownst to him, another transformation was occurring in his brain. As streams of cosmic energy surged in, they triggered a mysterious awakening within his mental domain.
Buzz!
Just as Rowan was immersed in the exhilarating feeling of growing stronger, a sudden wave of vertigo washed over him.
His consciousness was pulled into an unfamiliar space.
It felt like a freshly forged universe vast, boundless, and brimming with potential.
Suspended in the heart of this universe was a radiant golden sphere. It trembled, pulsing with a power that seemed on the verge of eruption.
From a distance, it looked like a sun about to explode.
"What... what is this?" Rowan's pulse quickened.
Something about this scene felt oddly familiar.
But before he could piece it together
BOOM!
The golden sphere burst open in a dazzling explosion, sending waves of blinding light and tremors through the entire space.
Rowan's consciousness was shattered in an instant.
When the turbulence finally faded, the once-empty universe was now filled with wisps of pale golden mist, intertwined with flecks of a darker, metallic gold liquid.
The dark gold droplets shimmered faintly, releasing more of the golden mist, slowly expanding, as if trying to fill every corner of this mysterious domain.
Outside, the cosmic energy Rowan had been absorbing flowed steadily inward. A hidden force transformed that energy into more of the golden mist, amplifying the change.
Meanwhile, in the real world, Rowan's cross-legged posture collapsed, his unconscious body falling to the ground.
His skin flushed a deep red. Veins bulged across his body like cords, and beads of dark blood oozed from his pores.
A powerful, unseen force surged from deep within his mind and spread across every inch of his body.
Under this mysterious baptism, his transformation accelerated beyond anything he'd expected.
Brrring!
A harsh alarm shattered the silence.
Rowan's eyelids twitched. He stirred slowly, dragging himself out of unconsciousness.
He opened his eyes to find sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting warm amber hues across his face.
Rubbing his temples, Rowan sat up groggily, as if waking from another lifetime.
"What... what happened to me?"
His memories started returning in fragments. Then his expression froze.
"Just now... did I enter my mindscape?"
His heart skipped a beat.
He remembered the exploding golden sphere.
The scene was eerily similar to the moment in the source novel when the protagonist, Luo Feng, first awakened as a Mind Adept.
"Wait could it be? Did I awaken the Mind Adept ability too?"
A spark of excitement lit his chest.
Without wasting a second, Rowan jumped to his feet.
Right away, he noticed something was... different.
His body felt unnaturally light. Everything around him was crystal clear. His hearing was so sharp, he could even make out the shouting of street vendors eighteen floors below.
He glanced at a chair in the living room, narrowed his eyes, and focused his will.
An invisible force flowed outward.
The chair trembled slightly then rose into the air, completely suspended.
Rowan stared, speechless.
"Levitation. Telekinesis."
"I really did awaken as a Mind Adept!"
A rush of euphoria surged through him.
Becoming a Mind Adept wasn't just rare it was game-changing.
Flight, long-range offense, area control, battlefield support...
If he'd had these powers before, Obadiah would never have pinned him down from above.
Now, riding the high of his breakthrough, Rowan released more of his telekinetic power.
In an instant, everything in the room the coffee table, stools, even a nearby vase rose into the air like weightless debris in zero gravity.
It felt as though the entire apartment had been cut off from Earth's gravity.
And through it all, Rowan felt no strain whatsoever.
A grin stretched across his face.
He was in full control.
With a thought, everything gently returned to its place.
"Looks like it's official. I'm a Mind Adept."
Rowan sat cross-legged once more, closing his eyes and focusing on his mind.
A wave of energy prickled across his spine, and in the next second, his awareness reentered the vast internal universe he now knew was his mindscape.
Unlike before, the space was no longer empty. Wisps of golden mist filled the air, and droplets of dark gold liquid drifted within it.
"So this is my mental energy..."
He studied the mist and droplets in silence.
"I guess my aptitude as a Mind Adept isn't as strong as Luo Feng's."
He had a point.
In the source novel, Luo Feng's golden sphere had continued producing mist for a long time even until he reached the rank of a mid-tier Warlord before finally shattering.
The innate strength of a Mind Adept's power varied.
Some had only mist. Some possessed liquid or even solid forms of mental energy. Solid forms were the rarest and most powerful.
Rowan's clearly belonged to the liquid type.
Judging by the amount of dark gold liquid in his mindscape, he estimated that his mental energy would likely be fully released by the time he reached the Warlord rank.
Until then, his power growth would be rapid.
"That's enough. No need to be greedy."
Rowan didn't feel discouraged.
After all, Luo Feng was one of the most gifted individuals on Earth.
If anything, Rowan suspected that his own Mind Adept ability was a lucky fluke possibly tied to the fact that he was a transmigrator.
Having the potential to reach Warlord-level as a Mind Adept was already more than he could've hoped for.
"Besides, this power can be trained. Who knows? Maybe I'll break past my limits someday."
His spirits lifted.
With this new ability, his survival chances in both worlds had skyrocketed.
Now, he could finally begin testing some of the bolder ideas he'd been keeping on hold.
"Oh right! I just finished cultivating Genetic Primal Energy and awakened my mental powers. My strength must've increased significantly."
Rowan suddenly remembered.
In the novel, when Luo Feng completed his first Primal Energy session and awakened as a Mind Adept, his punching power shot up from 1,100kg to over 3,000kg.
Rowan had undergone a very similar experience.
He looked at his hands, eager to run a test.
But then he noticed something else.
His skin was coated in a thin layer of dried blood.
Residual impurities and toxins had been expelled during his transformation, leaving behind the scab-like layer.
"Ugh. Gotta shower first."
Cleanliness had always mattered to Rowan. He couldn't stand being grimy like this.
He stepped into the bathroom.
Hot water cascaded down his body.
As he washed, Rowan studied himself in the mirror. His physique was noticeably tighter, more defined, his skin gleaming with a healthy glow.
Then, on impulse, he willed the droplets on his body to rise.
And they did.
Dozens of water beads floated upward, held by invisible forces, merging into a larger sphere that hovered in the air eventually flattening and stretching into a shimmering, transparent water mirror.
