Marvel: A Portal to the World of Swallowed Star
Chapter 79 79: A Sea of Training Videos
"Rowan, have a seat!" said Zhao Ruo with enthusiasm.
At the moment, she, Rowan, and Shi Jiang were all gathered in the living room of Zhao Ruo's residence.
"I didn't expect anyone else from Jiangnan Base City to make it into the Elite Training Camp this year besides me. Rowan, which part of Jiangnan are you from?"
Zhao Ruo blinked as she asked, genuinely curious.
In a camp filled with global elites, it was rare to meet someone from your own hometown.
"I'm from Yangzhou," Rowan replied.
"Yangzhou? My grandpa lives there!" Shi Jiang's eyes lit up. Because of that, he often traveled to Yangzhou to visit and was quite familiar with the city.
"Rowan, I got into the Elite Training Camp through the Basic Camp selection," Shi Jiang said with a grin, now feeling more at ease with Rowan. "Zhao Ruo here was directly recommended by the military thanks to her outstanding performance in the armed forces selection trials. Out of the three of us, only you were recruited directly by a martial arts academy through a top-tier training contract because of your talent."
Rowan chuckled. To be honest, his natural talent wasn't anything extraordinary. He had simply benefited from becoming a Spiritual Telekinetic.
"Wait, that's right! Rowan, what's your current level?" Zhao Ruo asked, now intrigued.
It was already nearing October, and most of the slots for Chinese trainees this year had been filled. For Rowan to be admitted at this point, he had to be something special.
"Mid-tier Warrior Class. But I'm a Spiritual Telekinetic," Rowan answered truthfully.
"Mid-tier Warrior Class? Spiritual Telekinetic, huh. No wonder," Shi Jiang nodded in understanding.
"A Spiritual Telekinetic? Whoa, that's awesome!" Zhao Ruo was visibly impressed. Having grown up in the military, she'd seen firsthand how Spiritual Telekinetics tore through monster swarms. She had always admired them.
Rowan simply smiled and nodded.
"Rowan, when you go back to your room later, be sure to open the laptop issued to you by the training camp. There's a digital guidebook titled Student Handbook on it. Go through it carefully."
After chatting for a while, Shi Jiang gave him a friendly reminder.
"Got it," Rowan nodded.
Soon after, Shi Jiang suggested Rowan return to his own residence to get settled. After all, he had just arrived and needed some time to adjust and unpack.
Rowan returned to his eastern pavilion. After a brief look around, he went into his spacious bedroom, sat cross-legged on the bed, and powered on the training camp–issued laptop.
At the same time, across the world-renowned training facility, on the digital display embedded in the massive Black Dragon statue, a new name had just appeared:
No.183 – Rowan (551006)
The news spread like wildfire.
Within moments, it had reached the five major world powers, their base cities, special military departments, and even the Nine Core Families of the HR Alliance.
But Rowan wasn't the least bit concerned about the commotion outside.
He focused on the laptop screen, first going through the camp's rules and regulations. Then he studied the criteria for academy rankings.
Finally, his attention turned to the extensive library of training videos stored on the device.
Although the Elite Training Camp had Wargod-level instructors teaching in person, the administration was fully aware that many of these prodigies had their own personalities and not all of them were the type to attend regular classes. So the academy had prepared an entire curriculum in video format. Every student's laptop came preloaded with these lectures.
Rowan scrolled through the categorized directory of video lessons, which included topics like:
Internal Energy Cultivation
Movement Techniques
Power Control
Blade Techniques
Swordsmanship
Spear Techniques
Staff Techniques
Hammer Techniques
... and many more.
He chose to keep only four categories visible: Blade Techniques, Movement Techniques, Power Control, and Internal Energy Cultivation, hiding the rest.
His fundamentals were still weak, and he needed to cram hard in these core areas.
After all, the Elite Training Camp had a strict elimination policy. Any student who ranked in the bottom three for three consecutive years would be expelled and demoted back to the Basic Camp.
At present, Rowan was only a mid-tier Warrior. His movement, blade skills, and power control were all still at the beginner level. If he didn't work hard, being eliminated was a real possibility.
That said, Rowan wasn't particularly worried.
Because he had a cheat code.
He pulled out the Friday mainframe from his luggage.
Once connected to a power source, Rowan positioned Friday's camera toward the laptop screen.
"Friday, record all of these training videos and run full simulations and analyses on them."
"Understood, sir."
And just like that, Rowan began studying the training videos with Friday.
He wasn't in a rush to begin physical training right away.
His plan was to watch all the lessons systematically first. Building a solid theoretical foundation would allow him to train far more efficiently later on.
A strong mental framework would lead to exponential results in practice.
In just half a day, Rowan and Friday had watched over a dozen videos.
Although that barely scratched the surface less than one percent of the full library he had already developed a comprehensive and clear understanding of core concepts like blade technique, movement skills, power control, and internal energy cultivation.
For example, blade technique was categorized into four tiers:
Basic → Proficient → Mastered → Intent Realm.
As for movement techniques, the stages were:
Basic → Subtle → Perfected → Intent Realm.
"Let's set a small goal first: within two months, get blade techniques to Proficient and movement techniques to Subtle."
Rowan stood up, stretched, and cracked his knuckles, murmuring to himself.
Beep beep beep.
His phone rang.
Rowan picked it up.
"Hey Rowan, we're throwing you a welcome dinner! Senior Shi Jiang is footing the bill. Hurry up and come down we're waiting in the main hall!" Zhao Ruo's cheerful voice rang out on the other end.
"Got it. I'll change and be right there."
Rowan hung up and turned to Friday.
"Friday, continue playing the videos. Record and analyze all of them."
"Yes, sir."
Rowan nodded with satisfaction.
Friday's core logic and hardware capabilities were on par with Tony's J.A.R.V.I.S.
The main difference was that Tony had been using J.A.R.V.I.S. for years, giving it far more real-world training and development. That's why J.A.R.V.I.S. seemed much more intuitive and dynamic.
Now that Friday was being used regularly and was absorbing all this martial arts data, it was bound to improve by leaps and bounds.
Rowan changed into fresh clothes and headed off to the dinner with Shi Jiang and Zhao Ruo.
That evening, nearly every Chinese student in the Elite Training Camp showed up. Yang Hui also attended, bringing a few Wargod-level instructors with him to welcome the new member.
Rowan greeted everyone politely and officially integrated himself into the Elite Training Camp's inner circle.
…
Later that night, around eleven o'clock, Rowan returned to the Marvel Universe.
He had installed a security system at the entrance of his villa no one could enter without his permission. That meant Shi Jiang and Zhao Ruo wouldn't be able to tell whether he was inside or not.
In the future, whenever he returned to the Marvel World, he could simply claim he was in seclusion if anyone asked.
"Rowan, what took you so long tonight? You look pretty cheerful too."
When he arrived, Maria Hill and Natasha Romanoff were chatting in the living room. Hill looked up, her curiosity piqued.
