Chapter 42: Monthly Exam, Qi Takes First Place
CHAPTER 42: CHAPTER 42: MONTHLY EXAM, QI TAKES FIRST PLACE
"The monthly exam is tomorrow, why hasn’t Claire come back yet?"
In Class Six, Sebastian was lying on the back desk, sighing and pouting.
John was playing a game, heard his question, chuckled and replied without lifting his head.
"Even if Claire comes back, she’d just sleep like she usually does."
Sebastian froze when he saw the girl slowly walking in through the back door, lightly kicking the gaming guy to signal him to stop talking.
But who would’ve thought.
John didn’t catch his hint and just kept on talking.
"I guess Claire probably won’t return this time. Skipping the monthly exam sounds great."
Claire lazily stood behind him with a backpack, a playful glint flashed in her eyes, and her lips curved with a mischievous edge.
"You seem to know me well."
Upon hearing the familiar female voice, John instinctively blurted out, "Of course, considering I..."
Halfway through his sentence, he realized something was off, looking up to see two people smirking in front of him while looking at someone behind him. No way, did he just socially die!
John stiffly turned his head and saw the girl squinting at him. Embarrassed, he put down his phone, "Claire, when did you get back?"
Claire went back to her seat, pondered for a moment, and then, under John’s hopeful gaze, leisurely replied, "Around the time you said your first sentence."
"Thud—"
John instantly felt like dying, banging his head on the table. He was just mouthing off once, and he got caught; his luck was outrageously bad.
Seeing this, Sebastian and Isabella couldn’t hold back their laughter anymore.
"John’s got himself into a social disaster, I’m curious about what you didn’t finish saying," Isabella said with dimples gracing her cheeks, looking at John with eyes full of amused curiosity.
"I was just going to say that I’m Claire’s deskmate," John muttered.
Claire’s eyes had a thin smile as she leaned back lazily, twirling a pen between her slender fingers.
Suddenly.
Isabella seemed to think of something, her almond eyes fixed on Claire, a playful smile spreading at the corner of her lips.
"Claire, I heard from Mason that Julian did something inhumane to you, is that true?"
Claire lazily raised an eyebrow, pondered for a few seconds, and then with interest, she asked in return under their gaze.
"Which incident are you referring to?"
Oh boy, did Julian do many beastly things?
Isabella was shocked, her mouth agape. How could Julian do that when Claire isn’t even of age?
With that thought, she shivered and spoke, "Did you guys take any... precautions?"
As she finished speaking.
Claire, finally understanding what she meant, had her previously lazy eyes now laced with a chill.
She looked at Isabella with a half-smile, "If you and Mason don’t want your brains, just go donate them."
Seeing Claire’s dangerous expression, Isabella gave her a sweet smile, while internally cursing someone.
Mason this guy, falsely reporting, truly heartless.
The class bell rang, and the chemistry teacher walked in slowly holding a lesson plan, smiled when he saw the back, and teased.
"Nice to see you in class, Claire."
Everyone burst out laughing when they heard that, all turning their heads to the back to see her reaction.
Claire stretched her legs, shifting to a more comfortable sitting posture, "After all, the monthly exam is tomorrow."
Upon hearing that, the chemistry teacher coughed, somewhat speechless. From the start of the term till now, she always slept through exams, yet she claims to have come back because the monthly exam is tomorrow.
Everyone else also looked puzzled and skeptical, questioning if she tuned into the wrong channel today.
The chemistry teacher adjusted his expression and started focusing on teaching.
...
After school, Claire went straight back to Yayu Garden. She sat on the sofa, slightly pondering the possibility of selling this villa.
Just then, her phone rang. Seeing the contact, Claire’s eyes twinkled, and she casually turned on the speaker.
Then, a man’s magnetic voice came through, "What are you up to?"
"Just contemplating how much I could get if I sold your house."
Claire leaned back, her long legs crossed on the coffee table in front of her, speaking leisurely, not hiding her thoughts at all.
There was a brief silence on the other end before she heard the man’s low, rich voice, somewhat magnetic and teasing.
"Is Claire that short on money, thinking of selling brother’s house?"
Claire succinctly replied, "Yes, short on money."
For a moment, there was no sound from the other side, just as Claire was about to hang up the call, she received a transfer notification.
Upon seeing the amount, she raised a nicely shaped eyebrow, "What’s this for, brother?"
"Just trying to please you, Claire, hoping you won’t sell brother’s house."
Julian, wearing a bathrobe, lazily stood by the window, his voice laced with amusement.
Claire’s eyes paused and suddenly felt a tickle in her heart, promptly hanging up the phone.
Julian looked at the phone screen that went black, and chuckled softly.
...
The next day, as soon as Claire arrived at the classroom, Isabella pulled her aside and spoke in a low voice, "Claire, you’re taking the exam in our class."
This result in the class separation exam didn’t surprise Claire at all. After all, she was just a good-for-nothing always getting zero in exams.
"It’s okay, Claire. Fatty and I are in the same class too; we can keep you company," John said with a grin, wrapping his arm around Sebastian’s neck.
Soon, the exam bell rang, and everyone took their things to their designated exam rooms, and the three of them found their seats and sat.
Funny enough, the three of them were in the same row, separated by an aisle.
The first test was Chinese. After receiving the paper, Claire flamboyantly wrote her name, then propped her head up with one hand and started writing on the paper with the other.
The invigilator teacher noticed her and nodded in satisfaction. They say this girl’s grades aren’t good, always sleeping through exams, but today she’s serious.
Thinking so, the invigilator slowly walked over to Claire’s side, looked down, and his smile vanished instantly.
The answer sheet was covered with lines, making it unrecognizable. He sighed in a daze and walked away.
John, at the side, was very curious when he saw the teacher’s expression. He couldn’t help but look over and was stunned when he saw the packed answer sheet.
Could it be that Claire is finally making a comeback, not only staying awake but even filling the answer sheet?
As her deskmate, he couldn’t afford to slack off, so John bent his head and started scribbling intensely.
Claire watched her masterpiece with carefree satisfaction, a wicked smile on her lips, eagerly anticipating the expression of the teacher marking her paper.
After the exam ended, John came over and exclaimed, "Claire, you actually wrote on the paper today, how did it feel?"
Claire calmly replied, "Not bad."
Beside them, Sebastian felt like he was hearing things. How did Claire say such a thing? Could she have gone to the Capital City to learn?
"What score do you think you’ll get, Claire?"
"First place," Claire spun a pen, replying directly.
