CHAPTER 127: END OF TRIAL

Madam Yashina’s statement instantly made Sir Kael’s face turn red for a moment. Without saying anything, he took a seat, and a look of annoyance was clearly visible on his face.

"Sir Kael, do you have any other questions for the defendant, Shaan Devansh?"

"No. Everything is clear."

"All right, if there are no objections, then I will—"

"Objection." The red-haired man who had been present at the first trial suddenly stood up from the crowd. "I feel that this evidence cannot guarantee that what the defendant said is true. How can we be so sure that these body parts belong to Doppleshade just by looking at them? If this is indeed Doppleshade, why wasn’t it found intact?"

’Damn, this guy is as annoying as Sir Kael.’

"Defendant Shaan, you are welcome to answer that question."

"All right, Madam Yashina." Shaan slowly stood up from the couch. "That’s because when Dr. Marshal’s homunculus found the doppleshade’s corpse, it turned out that there was a destruction spell cast around the doppleshade’s body. The spell had already destroyed part of the Doppleshade’s body when the homunculus discovered it."

"Destruction spell?" Madam Yashina turned her gaze toward Dr. Marshal. "Did the defendant tell the truth?"

"Yes, that’s correct." Dr. Marshal nodded. "My homunculus saw it directly. Fortunately, my homunculus managed to cancel the destruction spell before the evidence got destroyed," said Dr. Marshal. "I believe someone, in this case, tried to get rid of the evidence."

’It must be the resistance.’

’Yes, who else keeps interfering with us if not the resistance?’

’I agree. We must catch them before they cause more trouble here.’

’The resistance brings disaster. That means Twilight Sanctum no longer stays safe.’

"Everyone, please remain calm." Madam Yashina tapped her gavel once more. "Without solid proof, we cannot jump to conclusions. We need to conduct deeper evaluations and gather more information."

"...."

"To confirm whether this object truly belongs to the Doppleshade, as the defendant Shaan claimed, we need to test the evidence and determine if it is indeed part of the Doppleshade’s body."

"Ehh... maybe I... I can help," said a yellow-haired woman as she stood from the seventh faction council seat. "But I need to get closer to the evidence so I can observe it better. I... I just want to confirm whether this really came from the real Doppleshade or not."

"All right, Daisy. You may go ahead and check it out."

"Thank you, Madam Yashina."

The blonde woman slowly approached the evidence near Shaan’s position. To be honest, when Shaan saw this woman, he was quite surprised. How could he not be? Her face looked like she was in her twenties, and her height was much shorter than the other female faction leaders, making her look much younger than the others. But how did she already gain the position of faction leader at such a young-looking age?

’I’m sure there must be something special about this woman named Daisy," said Shaan. "But what? What makes her so special?’

"Eh... if I look at it more closely, this is indeed part of the original Doppleshade’s body," said Daisy, pointing her index finger at the evidence. "Eh... this... this is a dark black muscle tissue called mimicry tissue. Mimicry tissue has excellent elasticity and is the only tissue found in Doppleshade’s body. This tissue also functions to change Doppleshade’s body structure to match its target."

"Wow, I had no idea this woman knew all that just by looking at it." Shaan shook his head. "Amazing."

"Eh... if the Doppleshade is still alive, the mimicry tissue will be light purple, but if the Doppleshade is dead, the color will turn jet black," said Daisy as she adjusted her glasses. "Eh... that’s more or less what I observed, Madam Yashina."

"I see. Thank you, Daisy. Please return to your seat."

"O-okay, Madam Yashina," said Daisy, hurrying back to her seat while keeping her head down.

’Jeez, this woman is very similar to Chelsie. Very timid.’

"After hearing the explanation from Daisy, the leader of the Twilight Codex faction, does anyone still believe this evidence does not come from the Doppleshade’s body?" Madam Yashina looked around the room. "Those who still object, please raise your hands."

However, everyone in the room remained silent, not saying a word. Damn, it seemed that everyone in the room immediately believed that the leader of the Twilight codex faction would not say anything untrue without reason.

"Anyone?" Madam Yashina asked with a firm voice.

"Alright, then we can move forward with the decision. After hearing witness statements, examining the evidence, and considering the words from the other council members, the conclusion of this trial is clear. The defendant, Shaan Devansh, holds no full guilt regarding the main accusation against him."

"Yes, finally," Shaan sighed. "At least I won’t be thrown into prison. That’s pretty good news."

"However, even though the defendant Shaan will not go to prison, you should not feel at ease just yet," said Madam Yashina. "You still must serve a social punishment just like your friends did."

"Yes, Madam Yashina. I understand."

"This concludes the verdict, delivered in a public court. With that, the leader of the twilight conclave faction declares this case resolved and the session closed."

The sound of the gavel struck, and the trial was finally over. The seven council members left the courtroom without a word, and one by one, people began to exit, until only Shaan was left alone.

"Thank God."

Shaan took a deep breath and calmed himself first. Damn, the atmosphere in the trial was very tense, but fortunately, his efforts with Dr. Marshal had not been in vain. "I should get out of here. The others are probably waiting at Dr. Marshal’s house," Shaan said as he stood and walked toward the courtroom door.

As soon as he opened it, he stopped in surprise. Chelsie, Nalira, and Mr. Courier were waiting for him at the door with worried expressions on their faces. They clearly cared enough to come here themselves instead of waiting for news.

"Shaan, so what’s the result of the trial?" Mr. Courier asked, his voice filled with curiosity. "Did you manage to clear yourself of all charges?"
