CHAPTER 2714: 2714. IMPROVE THE RUNES

Walker’s direction was already decided. He was heading toward the crafting guild, well, not really though. The crafting guild had been expanded a few times and many people knew this. He had even heard that a few private workshops had become interested in connection staircases to an underground tunnel that would bring their goods directly to the crafting guild for safe keeping before auctions.

The safe and guards within the crafting guild had increased significantly due to the fact that they had so many different valuable materials along with valuable finished goods. Hence why the expansion of the guild had also been a major instance this time around, they had added a very defendable and very tough looking safe.

This has been why the rune carvers workshop for rune research and cataloging had been moved a little ways from the central crafting guild where all the business took place. They had wanted the quiet to better focus on the very delicate art of rune carving and drone formation making. The master rune crafters and a few master rune researchers had been given the exact perfect workshop they wanted rather than spending time closer to others without the space to work as they wished.

There was also the added testing fields between them and the crafting guild. That was why it wasn’t necessarily heading toward the crafting guild. The testing field was enforced with magic and had mages on standby to create barriers of earth and wind to ensure that the damage from failed rune formations or rune testing did not cause harm to anyone. Any larger scale rune testing or formation creation would be down in the barren areas outside of the Genesis territory. It was why they also had their own elemental rune teleportation formation.

Getting there, Walker noticed that the decoration on the stone entrance was carved using the symbols of the basic elemental runes. Enough to show that the connections to elemental manas were close and acted as the core for all runes. It was a nice sentiment since there were many who would forget that the rune formations always had one elemental rune acting as the core and the base of everything it did.

To the rune carvers, this was a fact and the most important focus for them. If they had the affinity for fire, they became fire rune carvers, specified and powerful within their own right. They could ensure that fire elemental rune formations were always stronger and easier for them to carve. When they worked with other rune carvers, they could ensure their work perfectly blended with other specific elemental rune carvers.

The general rune carvers could utilize every rune but at a lesser quality which was why they often took supporting roles. Only the master rune carvers were consistently able to use multiple elemental runes or they would be able to focus on the other rune formations that were of higher quality or difficulty overall.

When Walker entered the workshop, he found that the front area was a general knowledge workshop. Plenty of books laying around being organized and read. Even a few being copied so that they could be sent to the archives to be stored and organized for when they were needed.

It really spoke to the fact that many books within Genesis could be copied in less than an hour, let alone how they could be copied in high numbers in less than an hour. But he wasn’t here to worry about copying books, Walker was already sure he sensed what he was after.

The manas flowing in the workshop while some rune carvers researched or tested was somewhat mixed. The rune carvers learning caused the manas to spill away from rune formations because they lacked the refinement to keep the manas flowing as desired. That was just the step they needed to rest on until they became more experienced with their hands in the art of rune carving as a whole.

Walker’s sharp senses allowed for him to make sense of all that mixed and mashed together mana. He could follow the feeling of space mana where he needed to go. Since the carvers recognized him, they did not bother to turn Walker away. They knew very well that if he had randomly showed up here he was looking for a project to work on, to share some knowledge, or maybe he would help them with a major breakthrough. He has done that with other crafting professions, why not them this time?

The workshop he was led to within the rune crafting workshop was not larger than others. It was silent, deadly so, as if the sounds of the outside would cause something to break so everyone working was holding their breath.

And there were many working. Almost thirty different rune carvers had been working before they began to notice Walker and focus on him and his actions of browning the runes being tested on paper where they wouldn’t cause a lot of damage.

"It seems you are making good progress. The space mana here is denser. That means you are attracting it with the shape of your space runes. You are testing them well enough but you are still missing the substance of space too. In your tunes, it’s like you call space mana to you but then forget to have it become an anchor, a core of what it should be."

A few of the younger rune carvers glared at him before they realized that the older and more experienced rune carvers nodded along with Walker’s sudden words breaking the silence. They hadn’t realized that Walker was saying exactly what the older rune carvers understood. They were missing the proper shape of the rune that would allow for the space mana to reside properly within it. To allow for the space mana to flow as desired rather than naturally. That was the missing piece.

Not that they would wish to admit this out loud.

Their work was one of almost obsessive research. Whether it was just part of being a rune carver or researcher or not, there was a passion bordering on obsession that came with the profession. They did not easily say out loud that they were unable to understand something. It was more likely that they would silently grab ahold of more information and pursue it with everything they had to make a breakthrough and find something new.

"When I was exploring the elemental planes, I was able to meet a being that moved us using space magic. I also saw runes that formed an entire language unreadable by anyone that is not of the same race. I have some insights that I believe will make the testing spatial runes solid and able to handle teleportation that will not degrade the materials the runes are carved on. I can’t make the rune like it’s nothing like those powerful beings, but I can help everyone who has the knowledge to accomplish what Genesis needs."

Walker’s statement did not show pride in himself but instead in the combined efforts of the rune carvers working to enhance the very fabric of what made Genesis Genesis. They worked hard to ensure that new rune formations were used for more than just this or that.

The magic towers had been crafted to link to the main magic tower enhancing the density and balance of manas. Now with the spirit trees, those small magic towers worked to help them grow and also to enhance the effects yet again. All of this was because the rune carvers worked tirelessly. This didn’t even mention the mapping hall, the supports for buildings, weapons, armors, the carriages for travelers, and the fact that natural runes could be guided to form as the core of the small magic towers.

Every single thing was integral for Genesis and evolving constantly.

"I think we should leave for the more dangerous testing area. They are currently testing a new form of the teleportation formation that focuses on earth mana to teleport metals without as much mana cost. It is an interesting theory we have yet to prove." An older man with what Walker could call a surprisingly bully physique came to meet him. When he realized this man was a demi-human with the traits of a boar it made more sense. His physique was larger and tougher for that reason, but his hands showed the fine tuned control of any mature rune carver.

Quite a few of those who had been hard at work dropped everything to follow them. Their focus was on learning and keeping ahead of one another and even the rune carvers off investigating other culture’s runes and ruins too. If they could take the lead in making the next teleportation rune formation, then they would take it. They had to take it.
