Chapter 2715. Rune Skills
CHAPTER 2715: 2715. RUNE SKILLS
As expected, the testing area that was used for runes had a lot of junk. Well, it was only junk to the rune carvers who had already managed to utilize the materials to the point that they broke down and were easily considered useless to making part of a rune formation. To a craftsman, they could be melted, burned, or carved in to something useful as long as the rune on them was also broken down as well. That was an important job others did though.
Looking around, Walker spotted a few tables with their own smaller magical barriers or earth walls allowing for smaller sets of tests. He was also glad to see there were healers on staff waiting to help any of the rune carvers who were injured due to failed tests.
Besides this, he noticed the larger area set up for the carving and testing of the teleportation formations. Enough space to carve the runes and utilize materials while also being able to get away from it if there is an explosive burst of mana at any point. There were also some knights with tower shields to be able to defend from any physical materials being shot away during a failed instance.
Watching, he also noticed that the earth mages here to fuel the rune formations looked exhausted. They seemed as if they had done the test a few times with only failure to show. The dispirited atmosphere around them was enough to feel that Walker arriving might be for the better rather than the worst.
"Came to laugh at the next set of failures? I told you that it would take another three weeks to figure out a better rune formation for the earth mana to pressure space mana to move. It would be better for transporting..." The rune carver that walked up was younger and a little fiery, but he lost his steam when he noticed that Walker was with the older rune carver who had come here.
"Our guest is here to assist us in forming a better space rune. He has some new insights and I am interested in seeing if we can utilize a central spatial rune for all formations that involve teleportation. You might be able to use it for your metal transportation idea." The knowing smirk proved to Walker that he knew very well the rivalry between the two.
While one was younger, the other was older and more experienced from people that did not value or focus on runes. The demi-humans had not been highly focused on anything magical unless it helped their plants. Regardless, this younger rune crafter appeared to be intent on making teleportation from the mines even better than ever since he was clearly a half human half dwarf. Meaning he was trying to help his parents or family in some way. Or at least that’s what Walker assumed with the passion he had for his project.
"He’s right, I came to see if we can adjust a core space tune in to a more refined form causing the decay rate of materials the formations are carved on to decrease or at the best to be erased entirely. I do feel that decreasing significantly is more achievable though." Walker knew all too well that erasing wear and tear on anything was an impossibility. He knew it could be feasible with an absolute mastery over such a thing, but would that really succeed? Maybe not.
"Thank you for visiting us hero. We have heard about your work elsewhere uncovering the lost histories or runes, allowing for the draconic runes to be shared with other races, and even the formation of the first teleportation formations." Respect was given and Walker did not shy away from giving a welcoming nod.
"So, I see you have just finished cleaning the area from the last attempt, seems like a good time to carve an elemental teleportation formation? Why don’t we start with the space runes that had been fixed and adjusted recently. From there we can focus on changes. First is the paper layer right? Then the carving from there?" Walker knew most of how to the rune carvers working on a formation followed.
First they would lay sheets of paper over the entire area that they would carve. Thai would allow a template to be made perfecting the area used and the way that the runes need to be carved. Oftentimes it prevents wasted material since there was always a selected stone, wood, or metal used for the basic foundation. Some rune carvers used the first but those forms of formations often were degraded right after use. Especially when they were carved right in the air as some rune carvers could do. Those forms of rune carving formations were best used for small helpful household things like cleansing water or sparking a small fire in a fireplace.
Otherwise, Walker knew that the materials already placed were a dense stone, not a metal this time or compacted earth. He didn’t bother checking the appraisal since he knew he would be able to utilize the material regardless. This was space mana focused now, space mana was part of everything since it had to be as it is the foundation for other manas in the word and even outside of the world.
He stood back as the young and old rune carvers began their work. Walker’s focus was on their form. Not on the other runes they were using. When he reached out to stop them, they both froze thinking that Walker had seen a huge error. He had mentioned to the boar trait demi-human rune carver that he had seen runes used as language and even been influenced by someone with greater space mana control than anyone else he had met. So, it was expected that there would be much more he could do.
"The jagged line here, that’s losing you some mana flow. It is forcing the space mana and not welcoming it. Space mana doesn’t like to be forced because it is a foundation. Think of it like the concrete mix used to make a house’s foundation. All manas can stick to it easily, they have to so they can balance and remain calm. But if you force the space mana, you need greater amounts of mana to do that, it’s why we have so much degradation in materials. So let’s smooth this line here and add in a few circular lines like this..."
Walker slowly adjusted the runes in a rougher way, but the two rune carvers were picking up his intuition and the feelings he had about the spatial rune formation. They also started to work to smooth out and refine the changes he made as they drew the template for carving. It just began to become more advanced when the pair seemed to realize that these changes would alter every single rune used and they had to do the same.
By the time they had the central space rune drawn, it looked entirely different. Instead of sharper edges that would have connected to elemental runes like before, it appeared that the central space rune was its own formation. A rune will have various smaller runes drawn to make the space mana circulate over and over before spreading out to a larger area.
Furthermore, Walker showed them how to adjust the elemental runes. He was partially using what he had seen formed around some of the outer elemental planes developing. His way of doing this was to mimic the ability that the runes had to encompass and hold mana without pilling it. That would make the entire formation safer for the material it was carved on. The manas would not spill out and damage what they were making overall. Otherwise, he also saw that the two rune carvers were in a trance like state.
They had left their entire focus in on what they were doing, not even worrying about the changes being made. They could see what they needed to do and Walker realized that it wasn’t simply because they were focused but it was because they had awakened a new rune carver skill once they had understood the feeling of mana that neededto be put in to the runes as a whole.
"Rune vision, I wonder if I can learn that skill too." Walker mumbled to himself when he had appraised the two and looked in to their current state. Having them both undergoing an enlightenment that awakened the rune vision skill was amazing. It helped them adjust and adapt runes and the overlay formation while they were more in tune with the manas that would be part of the formation as a whole. An ideal skill for constant improvement in rune quality and rune formation efficiency. All Walker needed to do now was step back and watch the masters work.
