CHAPTER 291: GIDDY UP, MAKE NEW FRIENDS

(Author’s POV)

"The two drop dead gorgeous, handsome dudes I was telling you about the other day. The one I saw at the college campus, swamped up by chicks," Yelena exclaimed excitedly while keeping an eye on Fabian, who was following them. She didn’t want him to know what they were talking about.

"Ummhmm~ ... what about them?" Myra questioned, though she wasn’t the least bit interested in knowing the tales of another episode of drop dead gorgeous dudes. Her mind was elsewhere.

"You won’t believe it, but I saw them here, at the seminar," Yelena stated, enunciating each word with more and more elation. "And~ ... guess what, what’s their identity?" Yelena was hyping herself up.

"Who?" Myra inquired, disinterestedly.

"The guests of honour for the event. The famous Everests siblings. Dion Everests and Elio Everests," Yelena revealed, her tone intense as well as enthusiastic. She was anticipating Myra’s reaction all along.

And Myra didn’t disappoint her friend at all. Her steps halted midway when she heard their name from Yelena’s mouth. With her eyes widened, she looked at Yelena, giving her a stupefied expression, "WHAT~? Who did you say was at the campus?"

"Hahaha~ ... surprised, right? Honestly, I was too when I saw them making their entry and walking inside. But that’s true. Now, you tell me, was I really exaggerating or otherwise, huhhh? Even the elder one, who gave the speech, that Brave Everests, he looks so ~ ...... so~ fine with his man bun. Don’t you think, aren’t all the Everests’ brothers just~ ... umm~ ... how should I put it? Handsome, nahh~ .... That’s too bland and common. Drop dead gorgeous~ ...... I have already said it .... Ohhh gosh, I don’t have any superlatives left in my vocabulary notebook to define such finely crafted men. Hehe~ ... I have used it all. It must be in their genes, I suppose. They are blessed with such striking looks, I could not even imagine how extremely captivating their parents would look like, appearance wise." She was getting all giddy and exhilarated, talking on and on about the Everests, making Myra restless.

Myra didn’t react to any of this. She remained stunned and rooted to her place as her mind raced, ’So, they have already been to the main campus? Am I bound to get caught by them? Is god playing some kind of a prank on me? That day, only if~ ... only if Prof. Oswald Mitchell hadn’t asked me to come to his office after the lecture. I may have encountered Elio and Dion out there. Tskk~ ...... why is all this happening?’ Her head started spinning again with this thought as she staggered a little backwards.

Fabian helped her with her footing and asked, his voice laced with raw concern, "What happened? Do you feel dizzy? Should I take you home, or do you want to go to the hospital?" He fired question after question.

"Were you not feeling well, Myra?" Yelena inquired, looking at the way Fabian was behaving.

"Ahhh~ Thank you, Fabian," she gently pulled herself away and replied to Yelena, "I am alright, just felt a little lightheaded. You know I can’t handle alcohol that much, but I drank a glass or two with the people Prof. Mitchell introduced me to. Nothing to worry about, I am good," she tried to maintain her composure and shrugged off their concern, casually.

"You should have declined, Myra," Fabian said in a reprimanding tone.

"Yes, I am in this with Fabby. You shouldn’t have~," Yelena backed Fabian’s concern.

"Ummhmm~ ... okay, okay, sorry. I won’t, now. Come on, let’s go. Wendy is already at the food area, devouring half the table." Myra, once again, linked her arms with her friend and walked in the direction where her sister had gone.

Fabian looked at their receding figure, his facial expression complicated, ’I hope today goes on smoothly, uneventfully.’ He then strode to join them.

Elio was in a corner talking to Nora on the phone.

"Why are you calling me, instead of socializing and enjoying the event?" Nora questioned.

"I don’t want to," his reply was straightforward. "It is giving me a headache."

"Then why did you go? You could have stayed behind with Brother Al, hmm?" she suggested.

"Brother Brave forbade me, even though I tried. He was insistent on attending it," he told his reason for attending.

"Eli, then you should probably make the most out of today. Make some new friends, hang around with new people, and have engaging conversations with them. At least, give it a try," Nora encouraged her.

"Not you too, Nor. Not you too. I am in no mood to talk to anyone here," he was stubborn as always on the topic of socializing.

"Arghhh~ ... You are so~ ...... tskk," Nora sighed exasperatedly. "Didn’t you say that if I wanted something from you, I should just ask and you would fulfil it?"

"Ummhmm~ .... But where did that come from?" Elio was confused.

Nora smirked and continued, "So, I have something that I really want. And you can’t say no, okay?"

"Tell me, what do you want?" he asked.

"Promise me, you won’t back out," Nora was adamant.

"Ohk, ohkay. I promise. Now say it," Elio gave in, setting right into her trap.

"You promised, hmmm. So~ .... What I want is for you to make a new and genuine friend in Esteria," Nora stated with conviction.

"Huh? What? What kind of a wish is this? I am not doing it," he backed out, but Nora didn’t let him. "Are you going to break your promise now, Eli? You said you would give me anything. No boundations, no restrictions. And~ .... That is what I want."

"You are so cunning and cruel to me," Elio complained.

"Cunning~ .... I will take it as a compliment. But cruel~ ... you are so wrong and missing the whole point. Anyways~ ... you will thank me later," Nora spoke matter of factly.

"How can I make a genuine friend here? You know how pretentious and flattering people in high society are," Elio raised another concern.

"Umm~ .... You have got a good point there. But as a Lycan Alpha, isn’t it your job to observe and filter out such people? Now, don’t make any more excuses. And~ ... one more thing~ .... Don’t you dare try to con me on this one. I want a photo of you and your soon to be friend, ohk. Do send it to me. Otherwise, I won’t talk to you, hmm. Now, my lunch break is almost over, and I have tons of documents to finish, bu-bye. Toodles. Good Luck, Eli," with this, Nora didn’t give him any chance to reject and disconnected the call.

Shortly after that, a message arrived on his phone, "I will ask brother Dion about your friend, so you better get your act straight and giddy up."

Elio scratched his forehead. He could feel a headache coming, ’I guess, I can’t escape it, hmm.’ He sighed a tired sigh. Keeping his phone in his pocket, he started scanning the room.

All across the room, people were smiling and chattering happily. The scene seemed lively and joyful, but he could clearly discern the deception and calculation behind every word. After all, that was how humans were, especially people who belonged to the millionaire, billionaire status.

For them, the most important thing was their time. Coz, time is money, and no one wants to waste money for just some simple chit chat. Everyone had a goal, a purpose, some greed to achieve.

And with Elio’s status as an Everests heir in addition to his dashing looks, such people were bound to cling to him. Making a genuine friend was like finding a micro needle in a room full of haystack. But still, he had to try, as Nora’s words were like a law to all the brothers.

Whatever she wanted, they would give her. So, he didn’t have much choice left. He searched again, all over the room, making the most use of his special ability, which was face reading. But as luck would have it, he couldn’t find someone who could interest him in going and having a conversation.

Meanwhile, at a distance, a few girls were eyeing him, desperate to talk to him. He could read their urgency, ardour, and seduction. They wanted to talk to him, impress him. But neither of them made his or his wolf’s, Leo, feel anything.

As he was about to return to Dion’s side, he saw someone near the food area, eating and munching on an apple pie, as if it were the most delicious thing in the world. He couldn’t help but chuckle at the person, whose mouth was stuffed with food. She looked like a total chipmunk, wearing a champagne colored dress.

The person looked naïve, totally uncorrupted, and unbothered, which was a rare thing to find in such a gathering. She was enjoying her own company. For Elio, it was refreshing, and so he decided to approach this seemingly cute and childlike human girl.
