Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers
Chapter 304: The Twin Sensed Something
CHAPTER 304: THE TWIN SENSED SOMETHING
(Author’s POV)
’From the information I have gathered, Alaric Everests despises human beings, and according to what Myra told me, they were always at odds when she was in Kimberg. So, there is no way he has any feelings for her,’ Fabian was trying to convince himself, giving every reason he could think of.
He was so indulged in his own thoughts that he totally forgot that he wasn’t alone. He was back at the Crown Opulence, in the CEO’s office, standing before his grandfather and his secretary. The former wasn’t very pleased by Fabian’s recent behaviour.
Jacob called out to him, "Fabian .... Fabian ......?" But Fabian didn’t respond. Not being able to control his temper any longer, Jacob then bellowed at him, his voice thunderous, snapping Fabian back to reality, "What is up with you?" He threw a document his way. "Just tell me clearly, what the hell is going on with you, Fabian?"
Fabian didn’t dodge, nor did he try to catch it as the file landed flat on his face, leaving a small yet slanting cut on the front of his cheek. The papers were scattered everywhere on the floor. Without a word, he crouched down to gather them and bundled them back into the file. Then, keeping the document on the desk, he looked straight at Jacob and said, "Chairman Larson, I promise you. No such thing will happen again. As for Myra Miracle, she is~ ... she is just a close friend of mine. So, don’t overthink it too much."
Jacob stared back at Fabian and asked, "Then what about the things you said in front of Brave Everests. When did I offer ’your close friend’ any position in the Larson Group? Though she is immensely talented, I never said that."
Chris licked his lips and tried to avoid Fabian’s eyes. Fabian already knew Jacob would ask this question, so he was ready with his answer, "I know you never said such a thing, but I also know how greatly you want capable and trustworthy people by your side. You surely wouldn’t want to lose someone as accomplished and gifted as Myra to the Everests."
"Do you think she is that good?" Jacob questioned.
"Yes, I am," Fabian replied, his words filled with firmness. Jacob nodded in understanding and remarked, "Okay, then. I will trust your judgment for now .... You already had a long day. You may take your leave."
Fabian nodded and then departed. As the door shut, Jacob commented, "He is completely head over heels for her and still trying to deny it. Has he gotten rejected by that human girl or what?" he smirked.
Chris uttered, "Maybe, like the young master said. He and Ms. Miracle are just friends, and we have overthought the whole situation."
Jacob burst out laughing at his words, "Are you feeling guilty for snitching on him? That’s why you are trying to take his side here, huhh? Chris, you and I both know what the truth is."
Chris pursed his lips tightly and blinked his eyes rapidly, not saying anything.
Jacob continued, "I don’t object to his association with ’his close friend’. He may like whoever he wants. I, as his grandfather, will be happy for him. But that doesn’t mean he will abandon his duties regardless and won’t be scolded for it," his tone took a serious shift.
_________________________
Alaric somehow got back to the hotel. He was mentally exhausted and just wanted to have some shut eye. As he was unlocking the door, he sensed a familiar presence behind the door. A tired sigh escaped his mouth as he braced himself for what was about to come. The door came undone as he went inside to find all his brothers were waiting for him. They looked at his dishevelled figure and didn’t say a word to him for a few seconds.
The silence was palpable. Not being able to bear it any longer, Dion was the first one to break the silence, "Al, where have you been? Did you forget that there was an important meeting, and without your presence, it won’t proceed?"
Alaric remained silent as his eyes locked with Dion’s and then with Brave’s, who was settled on the couch. His twin didn’t say a word, but the curiosity in his eyes was evident. Meanwhile, Elio added, his voice laced with concern, "Brother Al, why do you look like a mess? Did you get caught up in the rain? Did something happen?"
Even after this much questioning, Alaric refused to breathe a word about where he had been.
Brave finally uttered, "If you don’t want to talk about where you were, it is okay, but I have already informed Father about the situation. He didn’t sound pleased."
Alaric exhaled a heavy sigh and said, "I am sorry. I~ .... I just saw some rogue wolves lingering around the hotel and went to investigate them alone." He lied through his teeth.
"Rogues?" Brave raised an eyebrow. "So, did you find them?"
"They were quick and escaped," Alaric said. "I am sorry for worrying you all."
"You should have told us," Dion remarked. "We would have accompanied you."
"I was in a hurry and didn’t want to alert anyone at that time. I apologize for my reckless actions," Alaric said. He stepped towards the couch and plumped down beside Brave.
"Can it be Jacob Larson’s doing? The rogues?" Elio asked. He didn’t have a nice impression of Jacob. "Maybe he wanted the meeting not to go well. He is the Vampire King after all."
"That is highly unlikely. From what I know of Jacob, he isn’t someone who would play such petty tricks on us. But it can be one of the vampire council members. Remember? They didn’t look pleased during the meeting and were trying to sabotage it again and again," Brave said.
"Yes, they can have a hand in it. By the way~ ..... I just recalled. Outside the mall, I thought I saw someone suspicious keeping an eye on us. Maybe they were rogue wolves as well," Dion commented.
"Then, why didn’t you mention it then?" Elio questioned.
Dion clicked his tongue and said, "I was busy with the kids and thought it was just a false alarm."
Brave, with a side eye, was looking at his twin brother, who had visible dark circles under his eyes, and he looked sleepy as well. So, he said while looking at his wrist watch, "It’s already three in the morning. We all have had a long and tiring day. Let’s discuss this in the morning." Saying this, he got up.
Dion and Elio nodded and went out of Alaric’s room one by one. As Brave reached the door, he turned around and commented, "Al, I know you are not telling the whole truth. I won’t force you to tell me. But I don’t want you to get in trouble as well. So, if there is anything you want to share, come to me."
In a gravelly voice, Alaric muttered, "I will."
As Brave twisted the knob, he added, "And also~ ... There is something you would like to know. You have a peculiar scent coming from you. A scent laced with female perfume." Saying this, he stepped out of the room.
Alaric’s eyes squinted as he realized what Brave was talking about. He had completely forgotten about it. It was the perfume Myra was wearing. As they were tangled, it would have rubbed off on him. Picking his collar, he inhaled slowly and the scent. The moment of them kissing each other with a burning desire flashed in front of his eyes.
Her moist, soft and slightly full lips, how she pecked him on the lips without a care, to shut him up, how she asked him to bathe him and change her clothes. Her soft, cotton like skin, her hazel eyes, everything made his heart race in a way it had never been in a long while.
He gritted his teeth in annoyance, pulled at his hair and murmured, "Alex, stop doing that."
’What did I do?’ Alex was appalled. ’Don’t make baseless allegations.’
’You know exactly what I mean. Keep your emotions in check and don’t do anything like this ever again,’ Alaric replied. His tone was filled with frustration.
’Al, I have been keeping quiet as I was thrilled to finally see Myra, but let me make this clear. I didn’t do anything. You can try to deny it like always, but Myra is our mate. The emotions, the feelings, they are not mine alone. You feel the same way,’ Alex was firm with his words.
’Tskkkk ... stupid wolf. Stop blabbering nonsense,’ he shut Alex down and blocked him behind his mind.
He then recalled Fabian and how close he seemed to Myra. She was even wearing Fabian’s suit jacket, and she smelled like him as well. She was even drunk to the point of being wasted, and Fabian was the one who dropped her home. A dreadful thought lingered in his mind, ’Seeing how carefree she has been around him, is that human girl together with that professor guy?’
