CHAPTER 71: CHAPTER 71

Rose’s mind worked all night.

She couldn’t stop thinking about what Felonious had discovered about her.

I’m not human?

She slowly shook her head and pulled out the phone Elliot had given her from under her pillow.

She had returned to her room at the slave’s quater since Cassius had gone to a meeting with his three bothers.

She needed some time alone to fully think about her life.

Why had they lied to me? Was it why they never truly liked me? Was I just a successful experiment to them?

Her mind kept getting louder and louder.

Her fingers shook as she turned on the phone, urgently needing to speak to Laura to calm her nerves.

She quickly dialled her best friend’s number and waited for the call together answered.

"Hello, Rose?" Laura’s uncertain voice was heard through the phone.

Rose took a shaky breath and replied, "I’m not human."

"What? Did he turn you? Did it hurt? Can you turn me, too? It’ll be cool to be a vampire. I’ll suck Penelope’s blood first, for pushing you down that hill," Laura kept and talking through the speaker.

Rose let a chuckle slip from her lips, calling Laura was always the best thing to do during times like this. Laura had a way of making serious matters appear light.

"No, Laura, you’re not listening. Cassius didn’t turn me..." she paused, waiting for Laura to catch up.

"Oh? Then, Elliot? He turned you into a dog? Sorry... werewolf? Lycan?" Laura sounded genuinely serious.

Rose sighed, "I was formed from a vampire’s blood and bones, Laura. I was born this way." She finally told her.

"Huh? Born a vampire? But... we love summer, and, your parents are... wait... they’re not your parents?" A shuffling sound was heard through the phone, as if Laura was trying to get up from her bed and sit up.

"I don’t know anymore. I guess they’re still my parents because Felonious said there was a human egg and sperm. I’m no longer sure if it was theirs or they used a donor," She muttered the last part.

"Who is Felonious?" Laura questioned.

"A mage. He tested my blood and found out that my vampire makeup was more dominant than my human makeup. It’s more like I’m half-human, Laura. Plus, I’ve just discovered that I wield ten strong magical elements that could destroy their entire existence," She informed quietly.

Laura was unusually quiet, almost as if she’d ended the call.

"Did you hear me?" Rose asked.

"Do you want to come back, Rose?" Laura questioned, her tone serious.

Rose sighed, "I can’t leave now, Laura. Cassius needs me -"

"You fell for him, I knew it? Who wouldn’t?!" Laura giggled.

Rose smiled, "That’s not the point. I feel like what was written in that book is about to become real. I can sense danger coming to him again, his people are planning a betrayal and it’s because of me. I have to stay and help him out." She spoke calmly.

"I understand, Rosie. I’m here whenever you need me. I wish I could come over there and stay with you, maybe find myself some vampire and werewolf mates. The more the merrier," She whispered through the phone.

"You’re a naughty girl, and you just might get what you want if you wish harder," Rose replied, feeling a bit lighter.

"You bet I will," Laura said.

Rose was about to speak when she heard footsteps appriaching her room, "I’ve got to go, Laura. I’ll call you later. Oh, and please, do not tell my parents about this or where I am." She told her friend.

"Don’t worry, they’re not bothered you’re gone," Laura replied, "Bye, bestie." She said and ended the call.

"Of course, they wouldn’t care I was missing," she muttered.

She suspected that her parents hated her because they believed she wasn’t what they had expected. If they knew she was what she’d become, they’d probably look for a way to use her for their stupid experiments.

Her mind was drawn back to the footsteps outside the door. She stood from her bed and walked toward the door. However, it was pushed open before she could touch it.

"Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t know you would still be here," Susan stepped away from the door and apologised.

Rose furrowed her brows, staring at the freshly folded sheets and dresses in Susan’s hands.

She was confused, why should Susan be apologising to her?

She wanted to ask Susan if she needed her to anything when a movement caught her eyes behind the older woman.

"Aisling?" Rose called, unsure of whom she had glimpsed.

"You know her?" Susan stepped out of the way to reveal the fair, petit, beautiful, red-haired woman.

"It’s you, Aisling. Do you remember me? At madam Yu’s auction house. You’re a fairy, right?" Rose asked, excited to have met someone she considered a friend.

Aisling slowly nodded, keeping her head low.

Rose sighed, she recalled Aisling to withdrawn and slightly shy, maybe her excitement had made the poor fairy uncomfortable.

"Ah, I see you’ve met her majesty -"

"Who?" Rose didn’t realise she had cut Susan short but she needed to make sure she had heard right.

"You’re royal blood?" Aisling’s soft voice questioned.

Rose shook her head, but Susan answered instead.

"She is. She is the King’s mate -"

"What? How... who told you that?" Rose straightened up, unable to deny or accept.

"Cornelia never lies to me. We’ve gossiped since nappy days. Are you denying your bond with the master, your majesty?" Susan was cautious, yet probing.

Rose bit her lower lip, pondering over her answer. She sighed and looked at Susan, "I’m not denying my bond." She answered.

She couldn’t deny Cassius, never.

"I knew it. I’ve always known it. What are you standing there for, bow to your queen," Susan ordered Aisling.

"No, you don’t have to. I’m not even queen yet, please," she went over to Aisling and held her hand, "You don’t have to bow to me... okay?" She closed her eyes and concentrated on Aisling’s pulse.

’We’re friends.’ She opened her eyes and smiled at Aisling’s astonished eyes.

She slowly nodded and released Aisling’s hand.

Aisling had been the first person to speak into her mind, and it happened when she was about to get sold at Madam Yu’s auction house. Now, she coukd finally answer the question Aisling asked that day.

Yes, she coukd hear her thoughts, and she cound speak right back at her through her mind.

"Okay, then. Please, vacate the room, Rose. Aisling here will be occupying it from now on," Susan informed, holding Aisling’s hand and leading her I side the room.

"She will?" Rose turned to face her room, "It’s good, then. I’ll have a roommate," She raused her leg to step inside the room but Susan blocked her part with a raised hand.

"I’m sorry your majesty, but you have been move ld to the dark castle. It will be your home from now on," Susan informed with a bowed head.

"What? Who is making all this decisions?" Rose questioned, baffled.

"The master... your mate. I believe you’ll take it up with him. I’m only but a servant, your high -"

"Rose, Susan. Please, call me Rose. I don’t want any of those titles. Honestly, I’m just trying to avoid problems," She cut in smoothly.

She couldn’t let them continue with the title-calling, it would only draw unnecessary attention toward her.

Susan sighed, "Fine. I understand." She replied.

"And no one else should know about this, okay?" She asked again.

Susan nodded, "You have my word." She said.

"Okay, thank you. I’ll just grab a few things and meet you downstairs, then," Rose told her, hoping she leaves and gives her the chance to speak with Aisling.

Susan slowly glanced between Rose and Aisling before she walked out of the room.

Rose turned to the red-haired fairy and smiled, "Hey, you can talk now, she’s gone." She said, walking over to sit beside Aisling on the bed.

Aisling shifted, trying to create space between them bit Rose caught her hand.

"Hey, you don’t have to be like this. I thought we were friends or you despise the human like everyone else does?" Rose stared at Aisling’s lowered face.

Aisling slowly lifted her head and stared back at Rose, "I’m sorry, but I just don’t want any troubles." She finally spoke.

Rose frowned, "I’m not going to be trouble, Aisling, I just want to be friends."

Aisling shook her head, "You’re the master’s mate. How can you be friends with some lovely fairy, a slave?" She looked into Rose’s eyes, searching for any atom of lies.

Rose sighed, "Trust me, I’m still the same Rose you met back then. The girl you called beautiful, remember?" She touched Aisling’s smooth cheeks.

Aisling slowly smiled, "I remember. But," she frowned slightly, her cute brows furrowing, "Even if you don’t cause trouble, others will." She muttered.

Rose scoffed, "Seems you’re yet to witness such an awesome friend you’ve got. Don’t worry, I will deal with those ’others’ accordingly." She promised.

"So, friends?" Rose asked.

Aisling hesitated for a moment, then she pulled Rise into a tight, warm hug, "Friends." She whispered.

Rose giggled, "You’re so cute." She tapked Aisling’s small back, smiling.

"It’s full moon in one month, he should mark you.... or it will cause trouble," Aisling said as she leaned away from Rose.

Rose raises a questioning brow, "Full moon? Thought it was only werewolves and lycans?" She asked cautiously.

Aisling shook her head, "Every dark creature is affected by the full moon. And within this one month period, our libido is heightened, reaching its peak on the night of full moon." She explained.

Rose frowned, "Oh... I see... he never mentioned it." She murmured to herself, wondering why Cassius never mentioned the upcoming full moon.

"You don’t have to think hard about it, he will surely tell you. The master must love you so much," Aisling spoke softly.

Rose didn’t speak, she thought back to Cassius’s past with Elowen and felt a small doubt cross her mind.

What would happen during full moon? Would old cravings revive and Cassius would chose to mark Elowen instead?

Was she going to be tossed aside? After all, Elowen was a pure vampire, and she would be generally accepted by the people.

She hated her doubts, she bee they were meaningless. Yet, she couldn’t stop them from forming in her head.

She needed to speak with Cassius, she needed to be reassured... to be marked.
