Chapter 121: What Kind of Family is This?
As the employees gradually left, the bustling office quickly became quiet. Tang Song glanced at the elegant side profile of his partner and suddenly asked, "Are you happy?"
Leaning against the desk, Gao Mengting scanned the office and sighed, "Yes, we’ve finally reached this point. It feels great."
A satisfied smile spread across her face.
"So, how about a celebratory hug?" Tang Song opened his arms.
Gao Mengting turned her head, "Keep dreaming."
"How stingy. We’re even wearing matching outfits, and you won’t give me this small bit of face."
"Nope!"
...
The setting sun outside shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing the office in a golden glow. The two stood side by side, leaning against the desk, laughing and joking, sharing in the joy they both felt.
As the sky darkened, their reflections on the glass wall showed how closely they stood.
Tang Song lightly patted Gao Mengting’s back and laughed, "Come on, partner, let’s go grab a nice meal. You choose the place, and it’s my treat."
Feeling the warmth from his touch, Gao Mengting stiffened slightly but acted as if nothing was amiss. "There’s a nice western restaurant near where I live. How about we eat there?"
"Sure, and after dinner, we can stop by your place. Maybe discuss some of our recent book insights."
...
They arrived at the underground parking lot.
Looking at the elegant Mercedes-Benz S450L in front of her, Gao Mengting suddenly said, "President Tang, how about I be your driver for a change?"
"Sure," Tang Song smiled and tossed her the keys.
Gao Mengting caught them effortlessly.
She pressed the unlock button, and the lights of the Mercedes instantly lit up, casting flowing beams of light throughout the parking lot, like a meteor shower. ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ NoveI-Fire.ɴet
Gao Mengting’s eyes sparkled. "The digital headlights are stunning! They’re even more impressive than in the videos online."
After a few comments about the car, she and Tang Song discussed some of the car’s features.
Gao Mengting opened the door of the Wuling Hongguang next to them, took out a pair of flat-soled shoes, and put them on. Sliding into the driver’s seat, she stroked the interior and started the car.
The Mercedes S glided smoothly out of the underground parking lot and merged into the traffic. She actually loved cars; otherwise, she wouldn’t have spent so much money customizing her Wuling Hongguang.
As night fell, the city lights began to twinkle.
With her hands on the steering wheel, Gao Mengting casually pressed the music button. Soft, soothing music filled the car, emanating from the Burmester sound system:
"BGM: The moonlight is hazy, accompanied by the breeze and wine. Too many poems have been written; it's all fleeting like a dream..."
Tang Song reclined in the passenger seat, gazing at the bright crescent moon in the sky. He cracked the window slightly, letting the May breeze in.
Gao Mengting smiled and lowered her own window, letting her voluminous hair dance in the wind. She softly hummed along with the song.
Tang Song tilted slightly, silently admiring her graceful figure.
As the Mercedes drove further from the city center, the traffic thinned considerably.
Suddenly, the ringing of a phone broke the peaceful atmosphere.
Gao Mengting quickly paused the music.
Tang Song straightened up, pulled out his phone, and raised an eyebrow when he saw who was calling.
It was his cousin, Yang Zihang, the son of his eldest aunt.
He answered, "Hello, cousin."
A familiar yet distant voice came through the phone, "Xiao Song, you live in Qingxin Garden, right? In the Huaxin District?"
Tang Song paused. "Yeah, that’s the place. Why?"
"I was back home attending a family wedding, and Auntie asked me to bring something for you. I’m on the South Second Ring Road now, so I should be at your complex in about half an hour."
Tang Song glanced at their location and said, "No need to come all the way, cousin. I’m on Huai’an Road in the Qiaoxi District right now, not far from you. How about we share our locations and meet at the next intersection?"
"That works. Saves me the trip!"
Noticing Gao Mengting’s curious gaze, Tang Song smiled, "My mom had my cousin bring me some things from back home—probably food. Just keep driving, I’ll guide you."
"Okay." Hearing it was a relative of Tang Song’s, Gao Mengting’s breathing quickened slightly, feeling a bit nervous.
...
After hanging up, Yang Zihang checked the location Tang Song sent and smiled at his sister, Yang Jiajia. "Tang Song’s nearby, just two or three kilometers away. After we meet him, I’ll drop you off at school."
"Great! This trip home was exhausting—I need to get back to the dorm and catch up on sleep." Yang Jiajia yawned. "By the way, I remember Tang Song moved to work in the capital after graduation. Why is he back in Yancheng all of a sudden?"
"Maybe the capital was too stressful. It’s more relaxed here, and he’s closer to home. Plus, Uncle’s debts are all paid off now."
Yang Jiajia nodded, "He’s had it rough. I barely recognized him during New Year—he’d gained weight and looked worn out."
In her memory, her cousin Tang Song had always been quite handsome, popular with girls during school.
She didn’t expect him to change so much.
"Auntie is already trying to set him up with someone. She even asked me if any of my female colleagues were suitable. There are a few at my company who are around his age and decent-looking, but their standards are pretty high. Owning a place in Yancheng is a must."
Yang Jiajia shook her head. "Those setups won’t work. I’d have better luck introducing him to some classmates from school—there’s at least a chance it’ll work out."
The two of them chatted casually as the car pulled up to the intersection on Huai’an Road, finding a spacious spot to park.
Both siblings got out of the car.
Yang Zihang snapped a photo of their location and sent it to Tang Song, with the message: "We’re on the south side of the road, parked with the hazards on. You’ll see us when you arrive."
After sending the message, he pulled a large box from the trunk and set it on the ground.
Yang Jiajia sat on the curb, texting her classmates and complaining about her tiring trip home.
Ding-dong—a WeChat notification sounded.
Yang Zihang checked his phone and chuckled, "Tang Song’s just across the road. He’ll be here after making a U-turn."
"Oh." Yang Jiajia stretched lazily and yawned. "By the way, what car is Tang Song driving?"
"No idea. I haven’t heard anything about him buying a car, so he’s probably taking a cab."
Yang Zihang took a couple of steps forward, looking towards the intersection.
Just then, bright headlights filled the area, stretching their shadows long.
Beep-beep—the sound of a horn echoed.
A silver car emerged from the night and approached them slowly.
Its sleek, polished surface reflected soft points of light under the street lamps, creating a striking visual impact with its flowing lines and sophisticated design.
It was a Mercedes S-Class.
Yang Zihang immediately recognized the iconic front grille and stared at it curiously.
Yang Jiajia stood up from the curb, still yawning.
The Mercedes came to a smooth stop with its hazard lights on.
The passenger door opened, and a tall, handsome young man stepped out, wearing a white shirt, black trousers, and black leather shoes—he looked every bit the successful professional.
"Cousin, Jiajia," the young man smiled and waved as he approached. "Thanks for making the trip."
Yang Zihang froze, glancing at the Mercedes, then back at him, his face full of surprise. "Tang Song, is that really you? What...?"
"Heh, I’ve been dieting lately, lost quite a bit of weight. Couldn’t recognize me, huh?"
Yang Jiajia covered her mouth in disbelief as she stared at her cousin. This transformation was incredible! He looked more like his high school self but even more mature, with a better physique and greater charm.
And his demeanor—it was perfect! He easily outclassed all the boys at her school!
Click—the driver’s door opened, and Gao Mengting, having tidied her hair and clothes, finally stepped out.
Taking a deep breath, she walked over to stand beside Tang Song, a gentle smile on her face, and waved. "Hello, good evening. I’m Tang Song’s colleague, Gao Mengting."
Tang Song introduced them, "This is my cousin, Yang Zihang, and my cousin, Yang Jiajia."
"Nice to meet you."
"Hello."
Yang Zihang and Yang Jiajia quickly greeted her, their eyes wide as they stared at this stunning beauty who had just stepped out of a Mercedes.
White shirt, black pencil skirt, black leather shoes.
Then they looked at Tang Song—no doubt about it, they were wearing matching outfits. They were a perfect match!
For a moment, their minds buzzed.
What the... Tang Song had quietly gotten himself a wealthy and beautiful girlfriend? Driving a Mercedes S-Class, no less! What kind of family is this!?
