But he had woken up in the morning, and there were no injuries upon him at all, nor any sign that he had ever been physically harmed, though it had felt so real.

"Just what was that? Where exactly was that place?" Everlearn mused, hands gripping at his hair.

Now that it was real, the memories of that night were beyond haunting.

"You! Yes! You!"

The words rang out as the class fell silent.

Everlearn paused his grip, raising his head to find the instructor pointing a finger in his direction.

But fortunately, he wasn’t the one being called out; it was the girl sitting beside him.

She was asked a question about the major types of Mech Modules, which she answered correctly.

The scene brought Everlearn back to reality, and he resumed listening, taking down notes.

While Mech Modules as a topic was something basic for a Mech Designer like him, it was still intriguing to find that the Corer’s understanding of Mech Modules slightly differed from the way he had been taught to understand them.

Three hours passed quite quickly, and the class ended.

He heard the sound of beeping. Turning to his device, he found a simple message displayed.

[A Location Has Been Marked On The Map!]

[Get To It As Fast As You Can!]

"Huh?"

He raised an eyebrow, looking at the message.

It was strange having no mention of the sender.

Just a simple message that could have come from anyone.

He turned to the map, and to his surprise, a blinking signal was marked.

"Interesting," Everlearn mused.

And in the next moment, he decided to follow it.

Ten minutes later...

"Hmmm..." He hummed softly, finding himself standing before an endless grassland.

To think such a wide, open field existed in the academy.

But there was nobody in sight, and the signal on his map had disappeared.

He walked around for a while but found nothing.

"I should be getting back to class now," he said, turning to leave.

But then,

WHIISSSTLLEE!

He heard the sharp whistling sound and turned forward, just in time to see someone descending from the air.

"Huh?"

It was almost as if the person was floating down.

The man had white hair and piercing black eyes.

He wore a simple long-sleeved white shirt, white trousers, and a heavy white coat resting across his shoulders.

"The message was random, and yet you showed up?" the man spoke, landing lightly on the ground.

He was two meters tall, a full head taller than Everlearn.

"Why?" he asked.

Everlearn shrugged.

"I thought it was interesting since it had no sender. Won’t hurt to check it out, would it?"

A small smile spread across the man’s face.

He tapped on his wristwatch, and in the next instant—

BEEP!

A sound came from Everlearn’s device. He turned to it and found a new notification.

[+100 Points Issued For Remarkable Performance In Emergency Class]

"Huh?"

"The class is a mock test for points," the man explained, floating back into the sky.

"It’s over, and you passed well."

He said this before vanishing in a blur of white light.

Everlearn looked at the notification again, and realization dawned on him.

"Emergency Class, huh?"

"Now that makes some sense."

He had received a message from no specific sender.

That was something anyone would have ignored, but it also resembled an emergency alert, fitting the theme perfectly.

Emergency Class was over, and since that was all for today, Everlearn returned to his dorm room.

When he arrived, he set an alarm for 6:00, then tossed his device onto the bed.

He moved into his training room wearing only his shorts and lay on his back before commanding,

"Initiate MDS Protocol."

Immediately, a digital panel appeared.

Everlearn quickly navigated through it until he reached the section he was looking for:

He had no idea what this was, but he had an idea nonetheless.

The system itself was the Mecha Devourer System.

And now, the reward... a Mecha Devourer Module.

Whatever it was, it was a reward.

And he would use it either way.

So, why not now?

"Yes," he said.

In the next moment, streams of text flashed rapidly before his eyes.

Whatever Everlearn caught last before his vision went dark was—

’C... Cursed Mech?’

Those were his last thoughts before he fell unconscious, though his eyes didn’t close.

They remained wide open, lifeless, making him appear dead, yet his heart continued to beat rhythmically.

All of a sudden, pitch-black liquid seeped from the corners of his eyes, slowly spreading forward as if it possessed consciousness of its own.

Soon enough, it completely engulfed his eyes, turning them into pools of pure black.

Right after that, every vein in his body began to bulge, first green, then darkening quickly into a deep, abyssal black.

And soon enough, what lay upon the ground was no longer Everlearn...

...but a being covered completely in thick black veins that almost erased his human features.

BAAADUUUMP!

BAAADUUUMP!

The sound of his heart thundered through the room.
