CHAPTER 16: CHAPTER 0016: SELLING, EVEN A BEAUTY IS TEMPTED_1
"Zhang Bin, from now on, call me Sister Lan. Why are you still calling me President Liu? It’s far too formal," Liu Ruolan said with a hint of reproach. "Alright, tell me, what is this miraculous medicine you mentioned?"
"It’s a special medicine called Bright Eye Liquid," Zhang Bin said, looking admiringly at the stunning beauty before him. His heart pounded, but he remained perfectly calm and continued with a smile, "It treats myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, glaucoma, cataracts, conjunctivitis, and retinal diseases. My master invented and formulated it, and it has miraculous healing effects. Just one drop can cure any of those conditions in about half an hour."
"Are you sure you’re not joking?"
Liu Ruolan was astounded. If not for the unique aura about this raggedly dressed youth, and the fact that he’d produced a Century-old Ginseng, she wouldn’t have believed a word. After all, it was too absurd. Curing myopia in half an hour? Was that even possible?
"Of course I’m not joking. The Bright Eye Liquid was only recently developed, and I’m just starting to market it," Zhang Bin said earnestly. "I’m willing to collaborate with you because I get the feeling you’re a good person, Sister Lan."
"Who is your master?" Liu Ruolan asked, composing herself.
"My master is an old Daoist from the deep mountains. He’s already 150 years old. He’s not just a cultivator, but also a highly skilled doctor," Zhang Bin lied.
"Then can your master cure cancer?" Liu Ruolan asked expectantly.
"In the past, my master could cure cancer, but now he can’t," Zhang Bin stated, as if it were a matter of fact.
"Why can’t he cure it now?" Liu Ruolan asked, her expression growing odd as she once again began to suspect Zhang Bin was a fraud.
"Because treating cancer requires True Qi. My master is old, his True Qi has dissipated, and he no longer has the strength to perform acupuncture," Zhang Bin explained.
Although he had cultivated Longevity Qi, he hadn’t opened his meridians yet, so he couldn’t cure a terminal illness like cancer either. At this point, it became clear to him that Liu Ruolan’s grandfather must have such a disease. That would explain why they were using a Century-old Ginseng just to keep him alive.
"Oh, okay. I have other matters to attend to. We can talk more later," Liu Ruolan said as she stood up.
"Sister Lan, is it because you don’t believe in Bright Eye Liquid’s effects? I brought some with me." Zhang Bin placed a plastic water bottle on the table. "This contains the precious Bright Eye Liquid. We can test it right now. Fortune is knocking, Sister Lan. You’re not going to refuse it, are you?"
Liu Ruolan hesitated. Logically, it had to be impossible. But the youth spoke with such conviction and confidence that it almost seemed true.
"Bright Eye Liquid is made from natural herbs. It won’t harm the eyes in the slightest. I can use it on myself first to show you," Zhang Bin said, putting a drop into his own eye. He blinked a few times and said, "Now you can call someone over to test it."
Liu Ruolan’s beautiful, willow-leaf eyebrows furrowed slightly. After a moment of indecision, she picked up the phone and soon called over two people. One was a girl wearing glasses, and the other was Elder Li, the same man who had appraised the ginseng. Both were employees of the pharmacy.
"Elder Li, Xiao Lv, please test this new medicine—Bright Eye Liquid—and see if it has any effect," Liu Ruolan said. "Here, put two drops in each of your eyes."
"Why is this Bright Eye Liquid in a plastic water bottle?" Elder Li asked in surprise.
"This is a newly developed medicine..." Zhang Bin began. "There aren’t any specialized containers yet, but it’s the most magical medicine. In just half an hour—"
"Absurd! Curing nearsightedness, farsightedness, and presbyopia in half an hour?" Elder Li’s face flushed with anger. "I’ve been practicing Chinese medicine for over sixty years and I’ve never heard of such a thing! Forget Chinese medicine; even Western medicine doesn’t have that capability." He then looked at Liu Ruolan and complained, "Ruolan, this boy is spouting nonsense, and you’re actually entertaining it? Well, I won’t be a part of this foolishness."
A faint blush crept onto Liu Ruolan’s face. "I admit, it sounds impossible," she said awkwardly, her voice lacking conviction. "But I’m still willing to try. If a medicine like this really exists, it could relieve the suffering of countless people with eye diseases."
Worried the situation was slipping away, Zhang Bin asked earnestly, "Elder Li, have you heard of the Pine Needle Acupuncture method?"
"Pine Needle Acupuncture?" Elder Li repeated, surprised. "What in the world is that? Some new type of acupuncture?"
"Pine Needle Acupuncture involves using pine leaves for acupuncture, and it can cure many terminal illnesses," Zhang Bin said lightly. "But I’m sure you don’t believe that."
"Using pine needles for acupuncture? How is that possible?" Elder Li’s white eyebrows knitted together into a deep frown.
"Bright Eye Liquid was developed by this very same remarkable person," Zhang Bin said. "It will sweep the globe one day. Today, a great miracle is about to unfold right before your eyes. Are you really not even willing to witness it?"
Xiao Lv, however, was eager. "I’ll try it! If it can cure my nearsightedness, it would save me a lot of money. I was just about to get new glasses because my prescription got worse again."
Secretly delighted, Zhang Bin immediately had her sit in a chair and tilt her head back. He then carefully administered two drops of Bright Eye Liquid into each of her eyes.
"So comfortable..." Xiao Lv exclaimed in surprise.
Elder Li, however, was still unwilling to participate. He stood to the side, scoffing and constantly checking his watch. He was going to expose this charlatan’s true colors. This swindler wasn’t simple; he’d even brought out a Century-old Ginseng as part of his scam.
Liu Ruolan also sat down on the sofa to wait quietly.
Half an hour passed quickly.
Xiao Lv opened her eyes and discovered that the once blurry world was now incredibly clear. "It’s cured! My nearsightedness is gone!" she shouted in excitement. "I can see everything perfectly! This Bright Eye Liquid is truly miraculous... It’s unbelievable!"
Elder Li stared, stunned and speechless. A look of doubt crossed his face. Could Xiao Lv be in cahoots with this kid? Even Liu Ruolan found herself wondering the same thing.
"President Liu, this really is an incredibly miraculous medicine! It’s worth promoting vigorously. If our company collaborates with him, we’ll definitely make a fortune..." Xiao Lv jumped up, exclaiming with excitement.
Liu Ruolan stood up and walked over to Xiao Lv, examining her eyes closely. She saw that they were bright and clear, with no redness, swelling, or any other adverse reactions. Only then did she ask coldly, "Xiao Lv, swear to me you’re not lying."
"I swear," Xiao Lv replied earnestly.
But it was all too preposterous. Both Liu Ruolan and Elder Li still couldn’t bring themselves to believe it.
"I’ll find out the truth myself! Young man, come here! Give me a few drops too!" Elder Li declared, rising to his feet in anger. He was determined to expose this whole charade.
