Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva
Chapter 1267 16: Settling Down in Shilin Mountain Castle (Part 3)
"I am Sigismund, a scholar of the Grey Feather Species." He took out a pair of glasses from his pocket and put them on, allowing himself to see the maiden before him clearly.
As a member of the Grey Feather Species, he had deep grey eyes, his hair was also blackish-grey (strictly speaking, there is no grey in nature, only varying degrees of black), and his back slightly arched, where there seemed to be retractable wings.
The Grey Feather Species had many 'cicada' characteristics, not humanoid in childhood, and only transformed into humanoid in adolescence.
"If that's the case, please follow me, Miss Hexia." He invited Hexia to his mansion for a short stay.
"Thank you."
The four then entered the affluent district, passing numerous beautiful homes, and eventually entered a medium-sized manor surrounded by meadows and flower gardens with delightful scenery.
"Visitors have arrived; you all fetch the tea from my study cabinet and prepare it."
"Yes, my lord." The four Grey Feather Species maids bent over to listen to orders, then looked up, curiously examining the group.
"I'll just take a stroll in the yard and sit for a while." Guy thought about it and decided not to go inside, as he was unfamiliar with manners and felt it would be awkward to sit there.
"Well then, prepare some food for Guy." Sigismund raised his hand, and two attendants nodded to indicate they understood.
After entering the manor with its redwood furniture and clean wooden floors, Sigismund invited the two to sit down, noticing Ores hadn't removed her hat, but didn't press her, thinking she might be a maid or Hexia's sister.
"I wonder where Miss Hexia comes from. Judging by your appearance and demeanor, you should hail from an affluent and bustling area."
"My friend and I come from the Land of Roses, where there are tall trees and forests, and the technology is quite advanced. However, we don't know how we ended up here, so we need to spend a lot of time finding our way home." Tilan thought and answered like this.
"The Land of Roses..." The other stroked his beard, as if recalling where this name appeared and was recorded.
Unfortunately, in the history and knowledge he knew, this term never appeared.
"What is Miss Hexia skilled in? This land is not peaceful. If reliant on just the two of you, it may be difficult to leave." He pondered and became concerned about other matters.
"When I was young, I saw many court craftsmen tailoring clothes and learned a bit myself, which should help as a means to make a living." The maiden thought and chose to say this, which better aligned with the current environment's understanding.
"Court craftsmen?" The other contemplated the implications behind this term.
"Yes." Tilan beckoned for Ores to bend over and took out the only hair accessory from her garment lining, a flower made of silver leaf and ice crystal gemstones, exhibiting an exquisite beauty that felt out of place in the present world.
"This..." Looking at the hair accessory Hexia handed over, the other let out a slight gasp of surprise and began admiring it carefully.
To have the leisure to craft such impractical jewelry was an incredibly lavish waste, indirectly indicating the person's extraordinary origins.
Originally, Sigismund had many doubts, but by now, many of them had dissipated.
After admiring it for several minutes, he reluctantly returned the hair accessory to Hexia.
"Given the circumstances, it seems Miss Hexia may need to stay with us for a while."
Soon after, the maids served the brewed tea, and the two took their time sipping while Sigismund chatted with Hexia extensively, discovering that though the maiden wasn't familiar with the region's environment and history, both her logical thinking and intellectual depth far exceeded those of the common folk in the streets, indicating she had received excellent education and a relatively rich experience.
"Although I haven't yet figured out Miss Hexia's identity, her mannerisms suggested she might have been cultivated as an important heir. To serve merely as a craftsman in town is far too degrading." He felt this sentiment.
"Unfortunately, my own status isn't enough to directly offer you better treatment. Would you be willing to settle for temporarily staying here with your companion, and later I will negotiate with the Elder Council to grant you a position befitting your identity?"
"This..." The maiden pondered.
"Thank you, Mr. Sigismund. We don't need such fanfare. My companion and I just wish to settle temporarily, and it would be wonderful if we could borrow books from the library later."
"Hahaha, that's no difficulty. The borrowing fee is high because too many people don't respect knowledge, thinking those casually flipped pages and records are just stories, without realizing the precious lessons recorded at great effort by predecessors."
"If possible, Miss Hexia, during your stay at the Mountain Castle, please write a few recollections or insights; we greatly need to know about the unknown places far away."
"That is certainly doable." If she were to write, she could cover quite a lot, from the First Era to the Sixth Era. Compared to ordinary Federation people, Hexia knew many historical secrets due to her Songstress background, having obtained more ancient historical details from the Ghost Princess and the Cult.
In a sense, if one can methodically clarify millennia of history, they can gradually grasp the patterns of epoch development, seeing through many superficial events. Alas, more often than not, people merely view history as stories, ignoring factors like culture, systems, climate, and economy.
"Hahaha, then it's settled."
After that, Sigismund led Hexia to the council hall again. With the welcome of this Grey Feather Species middle-ranking figure, the personnel in the hall respectfully completed the procedures, handing Hexia two badges symbolizing her identity.
Moreover, the accommodations for the two were quickly arranged, in a two-story stone brick house on the western side of the Mountain Castle, with a tranquil environment, and a burial ground nearby that was shaded by leafy trees. Seemingly simple, this house was a dwelling that many locals could never possess in their lifetime.
Grateful, Hexia also mused about the disparities of the epoch.
For now, at least they could settle down temporarily.
