Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva
Chapter 1478 14: Ores's 'Home' (Part 2)
After pressing the doorbell, someone quickly arrived. When they saw Ores beside Tilan, they were shocked at first, then became excited as they prepared the welcome procedure, slowly pulling open the long-closed main door, allowing the two to enter through the front entrance.
Generally speaking, the main door of such a large mansion is not opened; usually, people use the side doors for daily comings and goings. Only distinguished guests or grand events warrant the opening of the main entrance.
Walking across the square garden with its white-tiled floors, two rows of maids stood neatly on either side of the ensuing path to the main building. They were all Silver Elves, beautiful in appearance, dressed in elaborate white dresses trimmed with silver. Even as maids, their attire was more luxurious than many young ladies from wealthy families.
As Tilan and Ores passed by, these maids respectfully lifted their skirts and bent to salute, their movements impeccably standard and uniform, even down to the angle at which they pointed their toes, giving an illusion of entering an ancient royal court.
Seeing these maids, Ores's eyes were quite curious. If she hadn't known better than to act rashly on such an occasion, she might have gone over to check if these maids were mechanical bodies.
The two walked through the long passage into the main building, where the members of the Sedide Family had long been waiting in front of the door.
"Welcome, Miss Hexia, and—" The crowd first offered a polite greeting and then turned their eyes towards Ores, expressions full of excitement and relief.
"Welcome back, Ores."
Perhaps it is only after losing something that one realizes how precious it was. During the years Ores was missing, even though the Sedide Family had considerable power in the past, they faced a significant decline. The once-crowded, adoring scenes were gone forever, and family members personally experienced the stark changes in warmth and coldness in their work and various affairs.
So when the news that Ores was alive came back to the family, it's no wonder everyone was so excited that they couldn't sleep.
Faced with these unfamiliar relatives, Ores hesitated a bit. Although, as a Songstress, she could sense the joy and excitement conveyed by them, suddenly accepting so many intimate relationships was still somewhat overwhelming for her.
Seeing Ores's hesitancy, with one hand holding onto Tilan's skirt, Moande, as the family head, raised his hand to gesture for everyone behind him to temporarily withdraw before personally inviting the two to sit by a coffee table on one side of the hall.
With fewer people around, Ores relaxed a little. Now she could carefully examine the others. In theory, Moande was Ores's father, but their past relationship had been familiar rather than close. Tilan remembered asking Ores about this issue before.
Before Ores became famous, even though Moande was a member of the Sedide Family, he was not considered a key figure, roughly positioned in the upper-middle levels of the family, responsible for some branch businesses, busy on usual days, and not spending much time at home.
Though she didn't receive much paternal love, Ores hadn't suffered much hardship since childhood. Being a child of a noble family, she grew up in the care of various maids and servants. Her playmates were also the younger generation heirs within the Sedide Family, so the conditions weren't bad. Occasionally, other elders in the family would come to teach them some knowledge and experience, receiving excellent education from a young age.
The Ice Elves value family affection and don't have a significant internal hierarchy. All children of the Sedide Family receive the same care and education until entering adulthood, when some differences begin due to the division of positions.
After Ores's talent as a Songstress was discovered, not only she but her father's status within the family rapidly rose due to their relationship. Ten years ago, he even succeeded the previous retired Clan Leader to become the current Clan Leader of the Sedide Family. Many commercial collaborations and political affairs that Ores was involved in as a Songstress were handled by her father and uncles, sparing Ores much effort and allowing her to remain unburdened even after becoming a renowned Songstress.
After sitting down, the three of them talked about many of Ores's past stories.
"I remember when Ores was seven; she unconsciously used an ice-related extraordinary ability for the first time, turning jelly into a hard ice block," Moande recalled.
"Later, I asked her why she did that, and she said because the jelly could be eaten longer when frozen hard. This was because, in the family's education back then, children weren't given too many snacks, and since she was quite gluttonous, it was never enough."
Hearing this, Ores tilted her head, wondering how she could have been so silly back then. Frozen jelly surely wouldn't taste good, right?
"Her mother, though fond of Ores, was also a young lady who wouldn't take much care of children. After our marriage, she spent most of her time at parties and playing. Occasionally remembering Ores, she would give her many things and hold her for a while to strengthen their relationship."
"As a child, Ores was quite lively. Thanks to the good educational environment of the family, she didn't become too arrogant. As she slowly grew up and could take care of herself, I worried even less about her," Moande, being someone focused on his career, didn't significantly change his life habits even after Ores's Songstress talent was discovered.
While narrating, Moande occasionally took out photos of Ores as a child. It was evident that from a very young age, Ores began to exhibit her remarkable beauty. However, as Ice Elves are generally handsome, her appearance, though beautiful, didn't substantially differ from her peers around her.
After these conversations, Ores gradually became interested in her childhood stories. Nevertheless, her current mindset seemed as if she was looking at another familiar person, only that person had the same appearance and name as her.
