Morgan, You’re Not Acting Right!
Chapter 172: Internal Strife
The Fang Clan's appearance was utterly distinct from the other clans.
Their bodies were covered in thick fur and bristling beards.
Especially the Fang Clan's acting chieftain tall and long-legged, his entire body's fur would stand on end when angered.
If Lot were to describe it, it was like a long-haired dog that had just fallen into water, been dried off with a towel, and then thoroughly blasted with a hairdryer.
Truly a spectacular sight.
[Fight, fight! Hurry up and start fighting! That's when the real show begins.]
Thankfully, Morgan wasn't here, and no one else could hear Lot's inner thoughts.
Otherwise, they'd have realized that this guy standing so solemnly beside the Fang Clan's acting chieftain was actually entertaining such wild ideas in his mind.
And the Fang Clan's acting chieftain's fury was understandable.
Today's battle wouldn't have ended so anticlimactically in the assault on Camelot's walls if the Wind Clan hadn't been dragging their feet.
Perhaps they'd have already broken through by now.
So, upon returning, he immediately stormed off to confront the Wind Clan's fairies in a rage.
Facing him, the Wind Clan's chieftain showed no fear.
Or rather
She couldn't afford to appear weak.
What she'd done wasn't wrong.
"I merely made the correct decision befitting the Wind Clan's chieftain," the Wind Clan's leader declared. ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ NovᴇlFire(.)nᴇt
Hearing this, the Fang Clan's acting chieftain flew into a rage.
Clenching his fists, he moved to strike the Wind Clan's leader.
However, Melusine suddenly appeared, intercepting the blow with an outstretched hand.
"Bastard!"
The Fang Clan's acting chieftain, seeing this, burned with fury. As a clan leader himself, he wasn't overly intimidated by Melusine's strength.
In his rage, he swung his fist hard at Melusine.
Melusine, faced with such an attack, remained utterly unfazed. Calmly, she deflected each strike, leaving the Fang Clan's attacks to whiff through empty air.
But she also sensed that her side was somewhat in the wrong today, so she limited herself to dodging and blocking.
Thus, the Fang Clan's acting chieftain's assault failed to inflict any harm.
Had Melusine been the one with the moral high ground, she'd have undoubtedly pinned the Fang Clan's fairy to the ground and pummeled him mercilessly.
Melusine's temper was far from what anyone would call "good."
Meanwhile,
seeing the Fang Clan's acting chieftain's attacks prove ineffective,
Lot grew impatient.
[Hey, you oh, wait, not "you," but one fairy can't win alone. Are the fairies around you blind? Tell them to gang up! At this close range, there's no way the Fang Clan's fairies would lose to the Wind Clan's. If one-on-one doesn't work, then brawl! How stupid can you be?]
Back in his school days, Lot had hardly been a model student.
Though the Fang Clan's acting chieftain wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, after fighting for a while, he finally caught on.
"Everyone, attack together!" he bellowed.
At his command, the surrounding Fang Clan fairies rushed forward.
They still had some restraint, charging unarmed this was a fight, not a slaughter.
But even so, these Fang Clan fairies had just returned from the battlefield, their bodies still stained with blood.
The Wind Clan's fairies, who prided themselves on their elegance, turned weak-kneed at the sight of these wolfish Fang Clan warriors.
So, while the Fang Clan might've lost in a duel,
in a group brawl, they held the overwhelming advantage.
Seeing this, the Wind Clan's chieftain grew fearful.
She hastily gestured to Melusine and pleaded, "Please, hold off those Fang Clan brutes!"
Hearing this, Melusine sighed inwardly.
She disengaged from her fight with the Fang Clan's acting chieftain and moved to intercept the other Fang Clan members, sending several fairies flying with her strikes.
The fairies were stunned as their comrades were sent sprawling.
But in those brief few seconds, many Wind Clan fairies had already been wounded by the Fang Clan.
"Stop! Cease fighting!"
Both the Wind and Fang Clan leaders shouted simultaneously.
This outburst cooled tempers somewhat.
They knew that continuing would only lead to heavy casualties.
It wasn't worth it for mere pride.
Seeing this, Lot felt somewhat disappointed.
But no matter there was still a bigger show waiting for him later.
This was nothing.
Moreover, the trust between the two sides had now completely evaporated,
leaving only thick suspicion and hostility.
"We need to talk this through properly," the Wind Clan's leader said.
"I agree," the Fang Clan's acting chieftain nodded.
"In the next battle, your Wind Clan must participate in the assault."
"I cannot make that decision. Even if I could, my clansmen would refuse."
"Are you mocking me?" the Fang Clan's acting chieftain demanded.
"I am mocking you so what?"
Of course, these words didn't come from the Wind Clan's leader, but from Lot, who stood nearby.
As both leaders turned to glare at him, Lot shrugged.
"Just joking. Since we're about to withdraw anyway, what's wrong with a little fun before leaving?"
"Who said anything about withdrawing?!"
The Fang Clan's acting chieftain roared in fury.
This grudge wasn't settled yet.
What did he mean by "retreat"?
Enraged, he swung a fist at Lot.
But Lot had already raised an arm to block the strike.
Their strength was evenly matched, and with Lot prepared, the attack had no effect.
Seeing the chieftain still seething, Lot sighed.
"Can't you read the situation? We're already at this point two major clans brawling in the open. Do you really think we can still win this war?"
"..."
Both the Fang Clan's acting chieftain and the Wind Clan's leader fell silent.
Lot pressed on:
"So, this fairy war is doomed to fail. We don't even have a proper leader before the battle."
[Compared to these fairies, even the coalition against Dong Zhuo was organized and disciplined.]
Lot mused silently.
His words struck a chord with both clan leaders.
If they could become the leader...
everything would fall into place.
Thus, both fairies privately made plans that suited their ambitions.
"We'll decide on a leader," the Wind Clan's leader declared to Lot.
Then, she locked eyes with the Fang Clan's chieftain, their expressions brimming with fighting spirit.
It seemed a great battle was about to unfold between them.
Seeing this, Lot added:
"I'll have the Earth Clan continue their construction work, while the Wing Clan scouts the enemy's movements."
Though framed as consideration for both clans,
his words were really telling them: Go ahead and fight it out.
Hearing this, both clan leaders replied, "Mm, we'll leave it to you."
Their tone made it clear they already saw themselves as the alliance's supreme commander.
"Good."
Lot smiled and nodded.
Then, he and the other clan leaders turned to leave.
Melusine watched them go, her heart stirred.
But seeing the tension between the two leaders, she sighed and stayed behind.
This situation was truly troublesome.
Yet none of the fairies realized one thing:
This whole mess had started with Lot the Earth Clan's representative proposing siege engines.
Now, whether to attack or not no longer mattered.
What mattered was the fairy faction's leadership.
...
"The instigation is complete. Now we just watch them tear each other apart."
Having accomplished his task, Lot reported back to Morgan.
Every fairy was selfish to an extreme degree.
Getting them to submit was harder than getting Artoria to eat just three bowls of rice in one meal.
Not even Morgan the "Fairy from the Inner Sea of the Planet" could manage it.
Even Vivian, renowned among fairies, had failed to make them all bow.
So,
the only solution was to let the situation rot to its absolute worst before Morgan could emerge.
Let them fight
drain the fairies of their excess energy first.
Once the warmongers were dead, only the peace-loving would remain.
That would be ideal.
Hence, Lot's actions today.
Hearing his plan, Morgan wholeheartedly approved.
As expected of my Husband. Truly a dog's method.
She thought to herself.
Then, remembering her army, she asked Lot:
"By the way, what about our forces? They should be nearing Camelot soon. Should we have them attack directly?"
"No rush."
Lot raised a hand to stop her.
"If we push too hard, the fairies will unite against us. We mustn't force their hand."
"Mm."
Morgan nodded softly.
"I'll send word to Gawain and the others now."
"Right. Have them circle around to the fairies' rear."
...
Morgan's magecraft swiftly delivered the message to Galahad.
Of course, Morgan didn't mention her ambition to become the fairies' ruler.
After all, Fairy Morgan was also present.
Scheming against her was one thing voicing it aloud was another.
Upon receiving the letter, Galahad immediately summoned Gawain, Baobhan Sith, and Fairy Morgan.
"Alright, we're attacking from the rear?"
Gawain eagerly cracked his knuckles.
Finally, the battle was beginning.
His Excalibur Galatine thirsted for action.
"Mm."
Baobhan Sith also nodded with a smile.
She, too, was looking forward to it.
But then, realizing she'd just agreed with the detestable Gawain, she immediately turned her head away with a huff.
Seeing this, Galahad and Fairy Morgan nearly laughed.
Galahad quickly mediated:
"Alright, Gawain, Baobhan Sith no squabbling. The army moves now. Gawain, you'll..."
He then smoothly began deploying their forces.
Flanking the enemy from the rear wasn't new to them they'd done it countless times.
Even Galahad was familiar with the tactics.
His arrangements were flawless.
After hearing him out, Gawain and Baobhan Sith nodded in unison and prepared to act.
As they left, Fairy Morgan asked Galahad curiously:
"Little G, doesn't the Queen's plan feel... off somehow? I can't quite put my finger on it."
"I'm not sure either," Galahad admitted honestly.
"Well, we'll see when the time comes."
Unable to puzzle it out, Fairy Morgan dropped the matter.
"Mm."
Galahad nodded softly.
...
After sending the message, Morgan and Lot settled in to wait.
And the fairies did not disappoint Lot's expectations.
He'd thought it would take until the next day,
but that very night, open conflict erupted.
Yes.
Open conflict.
Unlike the daytime scuffle,
this nighttime brawl involved weapons.
Blades clashed, spells flew
it was a spectacular mess.
The next day, when Lot inquired why it had escalated so badly, he couldn't help but laugh.
In their struggle for power, the two clan leaders had fixated on one idea:
Decapitation strike.
Both groups had sneaked toward each other's camps with weapons
only to bump into each other midway.
The Wind Clan had wings, the Fang Clan were wolfmen they were impossible to mistake.
So, they'd fought on sight.
And once the fighting started, both sides called for reinforcements.
The brawl became a chaotic free-for-all.
By the next morning,
the conflict had only intensified.
Both sides were now fighting in earnest.
At the same time,
the other clans' goodwill toward these two factions plummeted to freezing point.
