CHAPTER 60: CHAPTER 60: UNDERPERFORMANCE
Geez, how did we end up back on this topic again? Lan Shan was on the verge of tears.
She shot Jingxi a reproachful glance. Just then, Jingxi looked up at her, their eyes meeting. Jingxi gave Lan Shan a sweet smile and said, "Godmother, how about we tell Mommy?"
Lan Shan remained silent, staring at him with deep reproach.
Ye Xinluo overheard their whispered conversation and couldn’t help but smile. These two were whispering so loudly, weren’t they afraid others would hear?
These two talking so loudly right in front of me and then asking if they should tell me—it was truly bizarre.
Knowing Jingxi and Shanshan as she did, Xinluo didn’t need to think twice to figure out that the "messed up fried rice" definitely involved Shanshan. In a good mood, she decided to tease them a bit, so she turned around, feigning curiosity, and asked,
"What are you two whispering about? Something I can’t hear?"
Lan Shan was momentarily stunned by this, then awkwardly laughed and said, "It’s nothing, nothing. I was just chatting with Jingxi. I’ll take him to wash up first, and we can talk later."
Without waiting for Ye Xinluo to respond, she picked up Jingxi and left the kitchen. She was worried that if Xinluo asked more questions, Jingxi might spill everything, which would be her embarrassing black mark. No one should find out. If Xinluo found out, she’d definitely laugh at her. So, like the ancient strategist’s proverb, running away was her best option.
What Lan Shan didn’t realize is that the thing she didn’t want others to know, Ye Xinluo had already guessed. Only she herself thought it was still a secret.
After knowing Lan Shan for so many years, if Xinluo couldn’t even guess this, that would be really surprising.
Watching her hastily retreating figure, Xinluo couldn’t help but smile wryly.
Looks like whoever marries Shanshan in the future will need to learn how to cook first. But then again, Shanshan is such an easy-going person; whoever marries her will be truly lucky. I really wonder who’ll end up marrying her one day.
Bringing her thoughts back to reality, she finished making the last dish of soup, transferring it to a large bowl.
She brought all the dishes to the table and then served three bowls of rice. Lan Shan brought Jingxi to the dining room, set the little guy in his seat, and then sat down herself.
She picked up her chopsticks, grabbed a piece of braised pork, and put it in her mouth. The flavor exploded instantly in her mouth. "Xinluo, your cooking is still so good."
Ye Xinluo added some spare ribs to Lan Shan’s bowl and smiled, saying, "If it’s good, eat more."
Then she added some vegetables to Jingxi’s bowl.
"Thank you, Mommy," the little guy said sweetly, then looked up at Lan Shan and said, "Mommy, can you not travel for work anymore?"
Ye Xinluo, a bit puzzled, asked, "Why?"
Jingxi didn’t answer her question right away. Instead, he looked at Lan Shan, pondering whether or not to speak. Following his gaze, Ye Xinluo immediately understood what he meant and suppressed a laugh.
Lan Shan felt a bit uneasy under their gaze and awkwardly smiled, saying, "Just a bad day, just a bad day."
Ye Xinluo gave her an understanding look. Lan Shan felt like crying. It’s true her cooking skills are lacking, and that "charred fried rice" was indeed a mistake.
Initially, she had been doing well, but then a little accident occurred.
You can’t blame her for it, it was because.....
