Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 306: Why Are You So Mad, Mr. Wilson?
CHAPTER 306: CHAPTER 306: WHY ARE YOU SO MAD, MR. WILSON?
Chantelle didn’t even get a chance to run.
"Why are you so mad, Mr. Wilson?" She asked as she stared directly into his eyes.
"You’re asking why I’m angry? Of course, you don’t know because you don’t care about me at all!" Daniel’s eyes were even redder as he shouted.
Chantelle could tell that, underneath all the anger, he was hurt.
A strong surge of guilt wrapped around her throat like a rope. If it got any tighter, she wouldn’t be able to breathe.
Ashton glanced at her. She looked down and picked up the tablet lying on the seat. She unlocked it and saw the news about her.
"Mr. Wilson, if it bothers you that much, we can hold a joint press conference to announce we’re divorced. That way, whatever I do won’t be your concern anymore."
Chantelle thought she was being reasonable. However, Daniel’s anger only became worse after hearing her words.
He looked like a wild animal with no way to vent his rage.
"You really can’t wait to get rid of me, huh? I don’t care who’s backing you now. You won’t be able to run from me no matter what!"
Daniel pulled her into his arms. Her familiar scent drifted over to him and instantly lifted the heaviness inside his chest. At last, the resentment he felt a moment ago faded away.
"Mr. Wilson, if you wanted a pet canary, you’ve clearly got the wrong person."
"You’re not a canary! You’re more like a cat. Always scratching and tearing at my heart whenever you can."
"Yes, I’m not. So please stop the car and go find someone else to be your canary," Chantelle said, glancing at Ashton.
Ashton acted like he didn’t hear their conversation. He didn’t want to end up working in the mines.
"Do you always push yourself onto others, Mr. Wilson?" Chantelle said sharply. The way Daniel was treating her was starting to really get under her skin.
For the past two weeks, she had spent all her time either working or training. Every now and then, she would check on Daniel’s whereabouts and secretly ask Thirteen and her men to watch over him from a distance.
She couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong with him. He’d been acting strange since he came back to Easthan.
"Forcing myself on you? Is that really what you think?" Daniel asked, frowning deeply.
Chantelle looked him straight in the eye but didn’t say a word.
The car went silent. The tension was so heavy that Ashton didn’t even dare to breathe.
When the car stopped in front of Silver Crest Global District, Chantelle opened the door and was about to leave.
Daniel hastily grabbed her wrist. "If this is about the news with Camille and me, let me make it clear; I have nothing to do with her!"
"That’s your business. What does that have to do with me?" Chantelle said flatly, brushing his hand off from her wrist.
Daniel’s heart sank, but his face slowly twisted angrily.
Ashton couldn’t take it anymore. He raised his voice and said, "Ms. Chantelle! Mr. Daniel was really worried about you when he saw those photos of your bruises. He almost cried!"
Then he turned to Daniel. "And Ms. Chantelle is jealous! She came to the office looking for you, and she even told Camille at the bar that you’re hers!"
See? Isn’t this so much easier when you both just say how you feel? Ashton thought as he jumped out of the car and walked away. He wasn’t sticking around to take credit for what he had done.
He just wanted to stop their arguing and clear up their misunderstanding in the simplest way possible!
After Ashton was gone, only Chantelle and Daniel were left in the elevator. The small space felt suffocating as tension filled the elevator, and both of them started to blush.
"Ahem, try not to get hurt again," Daniel said. His voice was a little rough.
That’s when Chantelle spared a glance at him. He had dark circles under his eyes and looked worn out. She remembered what Thirteen had told her, and her expression softened.
"I know how to take care of myself."
"Why did you suddenly start boxing? Do you think I can’t protect you?" Daniel asked. The stubborn look in her eyes told him she didn’t listen to anything he said.
Chantelle looked at him and patiently explained, "I’m a mother. I can’t keep expecting someone else to protect me and my kids. I want to be the one to protect them."
Daniel didn’t push the topic anymore. He stared at her for a moment, then rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"When I was in Peffel... were those people working under you?"
While he was overseas visiting a business partner, he got caught in a shootout. Two groups were firing at each other. Then, out of nowhere, two people showed up and pulled their attention away. If they hadn’t intervened, Daniel knew he wouldn’t have made it out unharmed.
After the incident, he asked someone to look into it. He found out the two groups were actually working together. They had planned to kill Daniel and make it look like an accident.
But the two people who helped him? Daniel couldn’t find anything about them; no names, no records, nothing at all.
"Yes." Chantelle knew if she didn’t tell him the truth, Daniel would keep digging. She didn’t want Daniel to be involved in her fight with Trenton.
"So, my wife does love me." Suddenly, Daniel pulled her into a tight hug.
Chantelle had been afraid he would keep asking about the two people who helped him. But now, wrapped in his arms, with her ear resting against his chest and hearing his gentle heartbeat, all the worry she’d carried for the past two weeks seemed to melt away.
"You’re still as full of yourself as ever."
She poked him in the chest with her finger.
Chantelle’s touch felt like it went straight to Daniel’s heart. He gently held her hand, and they looked into each other’s eyes. He slowly moved closer, and he stared at her soft lips. The same lips that haunted his dreams. Now, they were just inches away from him.
But then, someone shouted behind them.
"Daniel! You’re finally back!"
The elevator doors opened. Philip rushed over and hugged Daniel from behind.
Daniel clenched his jaw. "Let go if you don’t want to die!" he said, shooting him a cold glare.
This jerk always ruins my precious time with my wife! Philip, I swear I want to strangle you to death! Daniel screamed in his head.
Philip’s voice shook. "I was so worried about you... and this is how you treat me?"
