CHAPTER 307: CHAPTER 307: DON’T FORGET HE’S STILL NOT CURED

Chantelle winked at both of them before heading into the lab on the 87th floor.

Alexander was busy with an experiment. When he saw Chantelle, his face lit up with a big smile. If Camille saw him like that, she’d be stunned.

"You’re back, Chantie!"

"I heard you’ve been making good progress, so I came to check on you."

Even though Daniel had dragged her there, she had been thinking about Alexander.

She was the one who introduced him to Philip, and she really hoped the two of them would become friends.

"I’ll do a quick checkup on you," Alexander said as he gently pulled back Chantelle’s eyelids. His back was to the door.

Just then, Daniel walked in. From his angle, it looked like a stranger was hugging Chantelle.

Instinctively, he rushed over, grabbed the man’s shoulder, and threw him aside.

Still fuming, he twisted the man’s arm behind his back. No one touches Chantelle and walks away unharmed.

"What are you doing? Let him go!" Chantelle gasped, meddling between them.

"Daniel, you misunderstood him!" Philip said in a hurry. "Alexander’s our friend. He was just giving Chantelle a checkup!"

Daniel stared at Philip and Chantelle for a moment, then let go of Alexander without saying a word.

Still, he didn’t take his eyes off him.

"Who said you could bring strangers into the lab on the 87th floor?" Daniel asked, clearly annoyed.

"You were the one who told me to find skilled people to help Chantelle. This guy’s just as good as me. It wasn’t easy getting him to come," Philip snorted as he approached Daniel.

Daniel’s eyes moved from Alexander to Chantelle. Something felt odd with this man. His instinct told him Chantelle knew this man better than she knew Philip.

He could also tell from earlier that Chantelle was very protective of this man.

"Seems like Mr. Wilson doesn’t want me here," Alexander said. "I’ll be going, then. Chantie, I’ve got my own lab at Nelsen Corporation. Why don’t you come over there for treatment? Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you fully recover."

Alexander did not have a good impression of Daniel. After all, Daniel had abandoned Chantelle for six years.

Knowing Chantelle might be connected to the Nelsen family, Alexander couldn’t stand seeing her in pain.

"Alex, actually..." Chantelle started to explain, but Daniel cut her off.

He looked at Alexander and said, "ME Biolabs is one of the most advanced labs in the world. No matter how rich the Nelsen family is, they couldn’t build something like this in such a short time. If we have the same goal, I hope you’ll stay and help me, Mr. Nelsen."

Everyone was stunned when they heard Daniel say that.

It was the first time they had seen the fierce and controlling Daniel Wilson ask someone for help without using force or intimidation.

Philip’s mouth was open so wide, it looked like an egg could fit in it.

Chantelle felt something warm in her chest. From what she knew, Daniel had always been proud. He would rather lose a lot of money than ask anyone for help.

For a while now, Daniel had been teasing her, and she forgot how he acted around other people. She slowly realized that Daniel only smiled when he was with her. To everyone else, he was still just as proud and cold as ever.

Now, he had asked Alexander to stay for her.

Daniel didn’t wait for Alexander’s reply. He took the elevator inside the room and went up to the 88th floor.

"Well, it’d be rude for me to say no," Alexander said with a shrug.

He didn’t really want to leave anyway. Just like Daniel said, ME Biolabs was the most advanced lab in the world.

If he wanted to treat Chantelle’s illness, he had to stay.

"Chantie, why don’t you go check on Daniel? I think there’s something off about him. Don’t forget, he’s still not cured," Philip whispered in her ear.

Chantelle nodded and quickly went upstairs.

The door to the room was slightly open. Daniel was standing by the window, talking on the phone.

"Call back all our men and give me a report of the losses," he said.

He had lost half of his men in Peffel. None of the people he sent to check out Trenton came back.

He had underestimated his mortal enemy.

Chantelle’s heart skipped a beat.

The moment Daniel ended the call, she walked up to him. She wanted to talk to him about Trenton and convince him to stay away from him.

But before she could speak, Daniel turned around and pulled her into a hug.

He rested his face on her shoulder and took a deep breath.

"I missed you so much, Chantie," he said.

In the past two weeks, he had almost died more than once.

Every time danger struck, the first person that came to his mind was Chantelle.

He kept telling himself he couldn’t die yet, not until Chantelle and Stephanie had forgiven him. He had to stay alive to protect them.

Thinking of Chantelle gave him the strength to fight back.

Chantelle could feel the soft, hidden side of him under his usual cold attitude. She smiled and lightly tapped the back of his hand.

"If you don’t let go, I might have to tear this arm off," she joked.

She stepped back, and that’s when his other hand, the one that had slipped under her shirt and wrapped around her bare waist, came into view.

His palm was warm, so warm that it made her whole body heat up.

Daniel quickly pulled his hands away, a little embarrassed.

"Can’t you just let me enjoy this moment? I’ll let you touch me too," he teased her back.

He grabbed her hands and placed them around his waist.

Chantelle yanked her hands back and pushed him toward the bed.

"Go to sleep! Those eyebags are terrifying!"

"Chantie," Daniel called out as she was about to leave the room. He looked straight into her eyes and said with a serious tone, "Don’t worry."

There were no questions. No explanations.

They simply shared a small smile and nodded at each other.

That’s when Chantelle remembered what she had wanted to tell him earlier. She was supposed to warn Daniel not to get involved with Trenton. But with everything that happened, she completely forgot it.

"Let’s go, Chantie," Philip said, taking her hand and guiding her toward the lab.
