Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 308: Don’t You Care About Me?
CHAPTER 308: CHAPTER 308: DON’T YOU CARE ABOUT ME?
Chantelle let out a sigh, and she felt annoyed at the thought of the tests.
"Why do you sound so excited?" she asked. "Are you using me as some kind of lab rat?"
"Daniel insisted we run a full body checkup on you. It’s also a good chance for us to gather fresh data," Philip said as he helped Chantelle onto the machine.
She had been taking the new medicine they developed, and Philip was eager to see how well it was working.
About thirty minutes later, Chantelle noticed Philip, Alexander, and Russell standing closer together. They were silent as their eyes fixed on the stack of reports, and they wore the same serious expression.
She suddenly felt worried.
"What’s wrong? Is it really that bad?" she asked.
Philip quickly pulled the report to his chest and gave her a smile.
"It’s nothing. You’re getting better."
"Don’t lie to me. Is my time running out?" Chantelle asked, reaching to grab the report from Philip’s hands.
However, Philip quickly stepped back, dodging her. "Calm down, Chantie! I swear, you’re really okay!"
"Chantie, if you don’t trust Philip, at least trust me, okay?" Alexander jumped in quickly. "Your results are fine. They’re just... not exactly what we expected. We need to run a few more tests."
He didn’t want her to get the wrong idea.
For some reason, Chantelle felt like she could believe Alexander. She stopped chasing after Philip.
"You don’t love me anymore, Chantie," Philip said dramatically, holding his chest like he was heartbroken.
"Are you sure you want me to love you?" Chantelle asked, glancing upstairs.
Philip quickly shook his head. "I wouldn’t dare. I’m sure the daredevil will eat me alive!"
Russell also told her there was nothing wrong.
Even though all three of them said the same thing, Chantelle still felt agitated.
But after coming so close to death once, she felt braver than most people who hadn’t faced it.
She stayed up all night thinking.
In the end, she decided she wanted to spend whatever time she had left with her children. That way, she wouldn’t have any regrets on her deathbed.
But none of her three kids replied in the group chat.
Kane was in kindergarten. Stephanie was at a shoot. Railer was resting.
Still, they couldn’t be that busy to ignore her message, right?
"My dear babies, would anyone want to go to the amusement park with me tomorrow?" she typed.
Then another message followed.
"No replies? Anyone? You babies are making Mommy sad."
She added a bunch of crying emojis. But even after that, no one replied.
Maybe they really were busy. My kids grow up so fast.
Chantelle sat quietly and felt a little depressed.
Then her phone rang. It was Calvin.
"We’ve finished the investigation, Ms. Chantelle. The Morgan family had money problems before. Joseph secretly helped them out. I think he did it to get a stake in Morgan Corp and cut down Mr. Wilson’s market share."
"Out of all the companies, Morgan Corp?" Chantelle said, surprised.
She wasn’t looking down on Morgan Corp. But the Wilson Group of Companies was huge. No single company in Easthan could bring it down.
She frowned deeply and asked. "What’s wrong? Are things really that bad?"
"It’s not just Morgan Corp. Joseph also gave money to seven other similar companies. They’re all just waiting for the right moment to take a piece of the Wilson Group." Calvin said.
"Money can really do everything," Chantelle muttered under her breath.
After the call ended, she drove straight to James and Ruby’s apartment.
When she got there, she saw Ruby silently following James around.
James shouted at her now and then, and even hit her a few times. But Ruby didn’t say a word.
Chantelle couldn’t help but wonder; When did Ruby become this submissive?
"Ms. Chantelle, James had kidnapped Brian Morgan’s wife last night," Calvin said. "Do you want us to take action?"
Chantelle nodded. "We can’t just sit back and let an innocent person die, right?"
After getting her order, Calvin took some men and rescued Brian’s wife.
When Ruby found out that James had been drinking and let Brian’s wife escape, she dropped the act and started hitting him.
As they fought, they accidentally revealed the truth behind their plan.
Ruby was pregnant.
They had planned to kill Brian’s wife so Ruby could marry him and strengthen the business ties between their families.
Brian’s wife, Nancy Trench, slowly regained consciousness in the backseat of Chantelle’s car.
She curled up in the corner, scared. "Where am I? Help!"
"Don’t worry, Mrs. Morgan. You’re safe now."
Nancy looked up when she heard the soothing voice. Her eyes were filled with tears the moment she saw Chantelle.
"Ms. Bently... did you save me?"
"Yes, I did," Chantelle replied. "So, what do you want to do now?"
She leaned back in her seat and looked at the shaken woman in front of her.
Nancy clenched her teeth. "I want the police involved! That bitch and her sneaky husband are going to pay for what they did!"
"And?" Chantelle reminded her.
"I also want Brian and his parents to see who she really is!"
Brian had once shielded Ruby.
Nancy wanted him to see the truth about the woman he planned to marry.
"Mrs. Morgan, you’ve been missing for over twenty-four hours, but Brian hasn’t filed a police report," Chantelle said as she handed Nancy a bottle of water.
Nancy twisted the bottle cap but didn’t take a sip.
Why didn’t Brian call the police? Why? Is he working with Ruby? No... that can’t be true!
"My mother-in-law cares about me. She wouldn’t let something like this happen."
"Mrs. Morgan, you can reach out again once you’re ready to face the truth," Chantelle said. She motioned for Calvin to open the door. Parked beside their car was another vehicle waiting to take Nancy to her destination.
"Thank you."
Nancy could sense Chantelle had her own reasons for helping her. Still, if Chantelle hadn’t saved her on time, James and Ruby would’ve killed her. For that, she was genuinely thankful.
After the other car drove away with Nancy, Calvin turned to Chantelle and asked, "Do you think Mrs. Morgan will come back to us?"
If Chantelle had let Nancy hear Brian’s recording, Nancy would’ve had no choice but to face the truth.
Calvin couldn’t help but worry. Would Nancy even make it through the night?
"She’s smart. Let’s have faith in her," Chantelle replied with an ambiguous smile on her lips.
Just then, her phone buzzed. She thought it was a message from the kids. But when she looked at her phone, it was from Daniel.
"I was so sad when I woke up and didn’t see you next to me."
"I couldn’t sleep well last night. You weren’t there."
"Don’t you care about me?"
He’s acting like his old self again, Chantelle thought, but she couldn’t stop herself from smiling.
"Be a good boy," she replied.
