CHAPTER 316: CHAPTER 316: TASTE YOUR OWN VIRUS

Suddenly, Daniel felt a dangerous presence nearby. He spun around and took a defensive stance.

Standing in front of him was the man with messy hair, who had forcibly been brought earlier inside a white sack.

"Die!" the man growled and his voice was full of rage and killing intent.

Daniel blocked a few hits, but not well enough. The knife was still stabbed into his stomach.

"Now taste your own virus!" the man shouted.

Daniel looked down at the wound, then back at the man. He quickly took off his protective suit.

"I don’t work here," he said. "I’m just here to get something to save my wife. I was the one who cut the power earlier."

The man paused, surprised. He stared at Daniel with suspicion, then suddenly burst into wild laughter.

"I don’t care who you are. You’re not leaving here alive!"

Daniel’s eyes widened as the man pulled out a lighter.

"What are you doing?" he shouted and lunged forward to grab it.

The man was strong and skilled. Daniel was already hurt, which made things worse for him.

"You think I’d believe a word you say, you beast?" the man yelled.

He raised his foot, aiming to stomp on Daniel’s chest.

Daniel quickly brought his arms up to block the blow.

A photo slipped from his sleeve and fluttered to the ground.

It was a picture of Chantelle and their three kids that Daniel had taken secretly.

He had dropped it on purpose to distract the man. The man was stunned the moment he saw the picture.

Daniel used that moment to push him aside and stagger away.

The man’s eyes widened as he called Daniel from behind, "Mr. Daniel Wilson?"

"If you know who I am, then we need to get out of here now," Daniel said. This wasn’t the time to ask how the man knew him.

"What are you here for?" the man asked, eyeing the safe.

Daniel’s eyes lit up. "Can you open it?"

He pointed at the safe that stored Chantelle’s antidote and handed over the fingerprints needed to unlock it.

The man quickly wore the fingerprint sleeve and tapped on the keypad a few times.

The safe clicked open.

Daniel quickly grabbed the only test tube inside and held it tightly against his chest. He was about to ask if the man could open the other safes when footsteps echoed from the hallway.

The bodyguards were coming.

"Let’s go!" Daniel grabbed the man’s hand and ran toward the exit.

Daniel knew sneaking into Trenton’s lab to steal Chantelle’s antidote was extremely risky. He had studied the whole layout before making his move.

That’s how he quickly spotted a gap in the ceiling that led to an air vent. He climbed up and signaled the man to follow him.

Once Daniel got up, he turned to help the man. But instead of climbing, the man stepped back.

Daniel’s eyes widened when he saw the man pull out a lighter. Right away, he understood what the man was planning.

At the same time, Trenton’s bodyguards had found them using the security cameras. They stormed in and started fighting with the man.

The lighter slipped from the man’s hand and landed right under where Daniel was.

Daniel quickly put on a mask, jumped down from the ceiling, and knocked out several bodyguards with a roundhouse kick.

The man was stunned when Daniel joined the fight. Using the moment of confusion, he broke free from the guards and rushed toward the lighter. But before he could reach it, Daniel grabbed it.

One of the bodyguards tried to call for backup using a walkie-talkie, but Daniel knocked him out with a punch.

"You’d better get out now! Or it’ll be too late!" the man shouted as he pushed Daniel toward the exit.

Daniel grabbed his arm. "I’m not leaving you behind!"

"You’re such a pain. You brought this on yourself!" the man said, letting Daniel drag him toward the exit. At the same time, he pressed a button on the remote in his hand and gave Daniel a guilty smile.

Daniel was shocked. A few seconds later, loud explosions rumbled above them.

He blew up all the floors above us! Daniel thought.

The bodyguards panicked, unsure of what to do. They stopped chasing Daniel and the man and rushed toward the exit instead.

But the ceiling suddenly collapsed, and large chunks of debris came crashing down, burying several of them. It wouldn’t be long before the whole tenth floor was gone.

Daniel pulled the man along and ran in a specific direction.

He remembered from the floor plan that there was a hidden room next to the lab.

The head bodyguard was also running that way. When Daniel saw that, he knew he had chosen the right path.

When the three of them reached a wall, the bodyguard used a retina scan to unlock a hidden door. Behind it was an elevator.

The bodyguard rushed in and tried to shut the door before Daniel and the man could enter. However, Daniel blocked it just in time.

As soon as they got inside, Daniel attacked him. The elevator was small, making it hard for either of them to fight properly. It was impossible to tell who had the upper hand.

Meanwhile, the man who had blown up the lab just stood there with his arms crossed, watching them.

When the elevator reached the surface and the doors opened, the bodyguard was lying on the floor beside Daniel’s feet.

Daniel’s legs were starting to give out. The virus in his body was kicking in.

His strength was fading fast. His body felt hot, his vision was blurry, and the sounds around him were faint.

The moment the elevator doors opened, a flood of bodyguards came at them.

This time, the man prepared himself for a rough fight. He fought side by side with Daniel, knocking out the guards one after another.

However, it was a draining fight, and sooner or later, they’d be too worn out to keep fighting.

Daniel’s condition was getting worse and he was on the verge of passing out.

He threw a few strong punches, which startled the bodyguards. While they backed off, he quickly slipped the antidote vial into the man’s pocket and pushed him through an opening he had cleared.

When the man turned around to look for Daniel, he was already surrounded by bodyguards.

More guards were rushing toward him.

Daniel’s eyes were bloodshot. His hand kept swinging the dagger, like a machine running on its last burst of power.

The only thing keeping Daniel going was the image of Chantelle and their three children in his mind.

My daughter is waiting for me to come home!
