CHAPTER 317: CHAPTER 317: DANIEL WAS POISONED

The bodyguards saw him swaying and thought he was about to fall. Just as they moved forward, Daniel made one final push and took down a dozen of them.

The bodyguards were shocked by his fierce strength.

Then, gunshots rang out from outside. Through his fading vision, Daniel saw a huge figure walking toward him. The person looked like they were holding a machine gun.

That’s a cool entrance. I should’ve let him take my place.

The man reached Daniel and lifted him up with one arm. "I fucking hate running errands," he muttered.

Gunfire echoed all around the castle. Daniel could tell three groups were clashing.

The first was Trenton’s men. The second was his own team. The third had to be the people Chantelle sent to protect him.

Thinking of that made Daniel smile.

The tall man kept firing his machine gun as he backed away. When he noticed Daniel smiling, he scoffed, "You rich guys get turned on by the weirdest stuff."

Trenton’s bodyguards seemed to be targeting Daniel on purpose. Maybe someone gave the order.

The man’s ammo ran out fast, but the number of bodyguards kept growing.

He dragged Daniel behind an Aston Martin to hide. The sound of bullets hitting the car was loud and constant.

"You should go," Daniel said, pushing the man away again.

The man hesitated. From his experience, he knew Daniel had almost no chance of surviving.

It made more sense to escape and give the antidote to Daniel’s wife than for both of them to die here.

That way, Daniel’s sacrifice wouldn’t be wasted.

After making up his mind, the man stood up straight and then bent down to sneak away.

He had only taken a few steps when a dark figure showed up beside Daniel.

He began to walk faster.

"Hey, you can’t be serious! He paid you to help him, and now you’re using him as bait at this critical moment!"

The man turned around. He saw a small figure in black walking up with Daniel slung over his back.

He couldn’t understand why the person sounded almost cheerful about Daniel’s condition.

"I’m so tired. Help me carry him," the young boy said, tossing Daniel onto the man and rubbing his shoulders.

Just then, a black ATV sped into the castle and stopped in front of them.

The young boy in black climbed in first.

When he saw the man still standing there, he rolled his eyes and said, "If you want to die, fine! But don’t take him with you! If he will die, Chantie will kill me!"

The man came to his senses and carried Daniel into the vehicle.

Entering the vehicle, he saw a doctor waiting for them. The doctor quickly took Daniel and began giving him first aid.

"Oh? He’s been poisoned," the doctor said.

"What kind of poison?" the man asked, sounding curious.

"I’m not sure yet. I’ll let Russell handle that," the doctor replied as he started treating the wound on Daniel’s abdomen.

The man glanced back and forth between the doctor and the young boy. They seemed to be here to save Daniel, but they didn’t act like they were worried about him.

"Hey, what’s your name?" the young boy asked, shooting the man a sharp look. He had noticed the man was wearing a medical smock and didn’t look like one of Daniel’s bodyguards.

If he turned out to be working for Trenton, they wouldn’t let him go.

"Lex Remington," the man replied honestly. He had seen the dangerous look in the eyes of the person dressed in black.

"Where are you from?"

"I’m from Kastovia too. I know who he is. He’s Daniel Wilson, the head of the Wilson Group Of Companies," Lex said, pointing at Daniel.

The young boy in black and the doctor looked at each other as if trying to figure out if Lex was telling the truth.

"Why are you with him?" the young boy asked.

Meanwhile, the vehicle left the castle grounds and stopped next to a tall building. But no one got out. They were all waiting for Lex to speak.

"I blew up the lab. He helped me escape," Lex said, briefly explaining what happened inside the lab.

The man in black gave Lex a hard slap on the shoulder. "You really blew that place up? Well then, no matter what, we’re taking you home!"

The doctor glanced at Lex with a bit of respect and quickly patched up his wounds.

The group entered the building, took the elevator to the roof, and boarded a helicopter.

Back at Western Hill Villa, Chantelle sat on the sofa. One hand tapped lightly against her head, while the other played with her phone.

Two days ago, she had sent Daniel the divorce papers but he never responded.

That wasn’t like him.

He should’ve stormed into the villa by now, demanding to know what she meant by it but he didn’t show up.

He was with another woman, after all...

Chantelle felt a sharp pain in her chest. She rubbed it gently while in a deep thought.

No, that doesn’t make sense. Even if Daniel has fallen for someone else, he wouldn’t just ignore me. Wouldn’t he want to get the divorce done so he can marry Natalia right away?

Or maybe Natalia doesn’t want to marry him. Maybe she’s too caught up in her research.

Chantelle couldn’t figure it out. When she looked at her call log and saw the three calls Daniel didn’t answer, she felt a wave of self-disgust.

I used to be more decisive than this.

Chantelle suddenly stood up, changed into a fresh outfit, and headed to the Wilson residence.

She was determined to bring the children back to Carcosa.

Maybe it was better to send them abroad. That way, Daniel wouldn’t be able to fight for custody once things fell apart.

It didn’t matter who Daniel wanted to marry. As long as she didn’t sign the divorce papers, he couldn’t remarry. She planned to use that to pressure him into giving up the kids.

But she knew what Daniel was capable of. It wouldn’t be easy to make her plan work.

She needed to start preparing early.

It was half past seven in the evening when Chantelle arrived at the Wilson residence. Normally, Daniel would still be at Western Hill Villa, and they’d be having dinner together.

"What am I thinking?" Chantelle muttered, giving her face a quick pat before pressing the doorbell.

Daniel had once told her that she and the kids didn’t need to ring the bell. They could just use the fingerprint lock and they could come inside easily.

But she didn’t want to do that. It would feel like they were still a family. Like nothing had changed.
