Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 322: I’m Such A Pathetic Little Girl
CHAPTER 322: CHAPTER 322: I’M SUCH A PATHETIC LITTLE GIRL
Camille was the only daughter of the Nelsen family and a respected socialite. So why had she lost to someone like her?
Oscar noticed his younger sister wasn’t completely hopeless. He went on, "You’re the only daughter of the Nelsen family, but you have no career and no clue about the family business. Grandfather may adore you now, but one day, he’ll just marry you to someone who can offer a generous dowry."
Camille’s face went pale. She didn’t want to be used that way. She looked at Oscar with eyes filled with desperation.
Oscar continued, "If you want more, then prove yourself. Show the rest of the family what you can actually do. Grandfather may favor you, but Nelsen Corporation doesn’t belong to him alone."
Camille started to panic. She had always believed that winning her grandfather’s favor was enough. Steve had always given her everything she asked for.
But Oscar had forced her to face a harsh truth: she might be Steve’s only granddaughter, but Steve had several siblings and their children also worked in Nelsen Corporation and owned shares in the company.
Even if those cousins weren’t a threat, she still had three older brothers. No matter how much Steve adored her, he would divide the family fortune among all four of them instead of giving everything to her alone.
Rowan was already handling everything related to the company.
And Steve... he was getting old. He might not have much time left.
If he passed away suddenly, would the rest of the Nelsen family just give her a small sum and send her off to live overseas?
"I was planning to send you back to Carcosa, but you’re still my younger sister. If you can follow what I say, make friends with Chantelle and Natalia, then marry into the Wilson family, I’ll give you five percent of my shares," Oscar urged her.
Camille’s eyes lit up with joy. It wasn’t the reward that thrilled her, but the fact that someone had finally given her something to do. For years, she felt like everyone had forgotten she even existed.
When her family first reached out, telling her to find a way to get shares from the Wilson Group of Companies, she didn’t know where to begin.
That’s why she announced her engagement to Daniel. She wanted the world to know. If everyone believed they were engaged, Daniel wouldn’t be able to back out. Once they were married, he’d have to protect her even if she couldn’t take any shares from him.
"I get that Natalia comes from a powerful family," Camille said, frowning. "But why Chantelle? Why do I have to be friends with her?" Camille despised Chantelle. In her eyes, Chantelle had taken everything that should’ve been hers.
Oscar’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t reveal the real reason. "Chantelle must’ve had help from someone to land the chairperson role at the Global Philanthropy Committee. We need to find out who that person is and get them on our side."
Camille crossed her arms. "When do I get the five percent?"
"When you officially marry Daniel," Oscar said flatly.
He turned the steering wheel sharply, making an abrupt U-turn. Camille was thrown to the side, but she held back from complaining. She knew better than to start a fight with her brother.
Elsewhere, Chantelle sat in the car, holding tightly the wine bottle. It took a lot of coaxing from Thea before she finally let it go.
Wow, she nearly finished the whole bottle.
Ashton’s phone started ringing. When he saw Daniel’s name on the screen, his hands trembled as he picked up the call.
"Well? Did you manage to pick her up?" Daniel asked lazily from the bed. Tubes were still connected to different parts of his body.
Earlier, Stephanie had told him Chantelle had been at the bar for a few hours. He got worried something might happen, so he told Ashton to pick her up.
But Ashton hadn’t reported back, and Daniel was starting to get anxious.
"Mr. Wilson, I’ve picked up Ms. Chantelle. We ran into Ms. Camille earlier. She didn’t want to let go of Ms. Chantelle, which caused a bit of a delay."
Daniel’s eyes turned cold at the mention of Camille’s name. He liked to keep his pawns near, but he never tolerated them stepping out of line.
"She’s working on a charity project now, isn’t she? Find a way to keep her in the mountains."
A few days ago, Camille tearfully told her grandfather that no one liked her. Unable to stand seeing her that way, he asked Rowan and his other two grandsons to help restore Camille’s reputation.
The Nelsen family ended up donating a large sum under her name. One of the projects involved building schools in remote mountain regions.
People loved charity projects that showed real results, and because of that, Camille’s reputation started to improve. That was why they believed her when she said Daniel was going to marry her.
It wasn’t hard at all for Daniel to use that as a reason to send her off to the mountains.
After receiving the order, Ashton assured Daniel he would take care of it properly.
Out of nowhere, Chantelle burst into tears. "Thea! I’m such a pathetic little girl!"
Thea had been leaning against the car window, half-asleep. She jolted awake at Chantelle’s sudden outburst.
"What’s wrong?" Thea asked, stealing a glance at Ashton, who was still on the phone with Daniel. She silently prayed Chantelle wouldn’t say anything dumb.
"Look at me!" Chantelle whined, pointing at herself. "I’ve got big, lively eyes, a small round face, a high nose bridge, cherry lips, and a killer body! I mean, I’m pretty, right?"
"Of course you are!" Thea shot back. "And if anyone says otherwise, I’d gouge out his eyes. He’s blind anyway!"
On the other end of the call, Daniel knew she was talking about him.
Chantelle pouted and pushed her chest forward. "I’m upset because no one even noticed me inside the bar! How long was I sitting there? An hour? I drank so much, and not a single man came over to flirt with me. I’ve never felt so insulted!"
"Chantie, wasn’t Mr. Nelsen with you earlier?" Thea reminded her.
Chantelle waved it off and said boldly, "What kind of man is he?"
Oscar was her boxing coach and a good friend. To her, he was firmly in the friend zone same as Thea.
Flirting with him would’ve felt disrespectful.
