CHAPTER 365: CHAPTER 365: MY WIFE, WHY ARE YOU HERE?

Trenton dropped through the floor. Daniel tried to chase after him, but a bullet suddenly flew across him.

"Get down!"

A familiar voice rang out, making Daniel’s heart jump. He quickly dove behind the sofa.

The spot where Trenton had fallen moments ago was now close. Then, a heavy iron slab crashed down from above. If Daniel hadn’t moved in time, he would’ve been crushed.

"Chantelle!" Daniel called out, smiling as he walked toward her.

But Chantelle ignored him and turned away.

"My wife, why are you here?" Daniel asked as he grabbed her hand.

Chantelle glanced at him, then suddenly pulled him toward her. Red laser beams shot across the spot where Daniel had just been standing. They nearly cut through his feet.

The lasers kept moving toward them and slowly came closer.

"That crazy bastard!" Chantelle cursed as she dragged Daniel back with her.

Daniel and Chantelle had no choice but to move until they reached the end of the corridor, trapped by the red lasers.

Daniel kicked open a door beside him. Just as he was about to go inside, Chantelle quickly pulled him back. Both of them dropped onto their backs to avoid the lasers.

The room Daniel had opened was full of smoke. The smoke started creeping toward them.

They couldn’t get up because the lasers blocked their way. Even moving their arms or legs was risky.

Daniel tried to slip through a small gap, but Chantelle stopped him.

"Wait." Chantelle looked at him nervously.

When the smoke rushed toward her, Daniel pushed her forward to protect her. He stepped back, and the thick smoke swallowed him.

"It’s done." Chantelle heard someone say.

The red lasers vanished. She quickly got up and ran toward Daniel. She grabbed him and pulled him into a narrow storeroom.

The room was packed with stuff. They had to squeeze inside with their bodies pressed together.

Daniel tried to speak, but Chantelle covered his mouth and whispered softly, "Hush."

He nodded enthusiastically while barely hiding his smile.

Chantelle gave him a playful glare, but Daniel suddenly held the back of her head and kissed her.

With everything so intense around them, Chantelle felt her heart pounding hard. But Daniel kissed her slowly, as if they had all the time in the world.

"Breathe," Daniel mouthed without making a sound.

Chantelle’s heart fluttered, imagining the teasing tone he would’ve used if he had spoken aloud.

She moved closer and pinched his waist. Daniel held back and didn’t make a sound.

Through the gap in the door, they saw a drone patrolling the living room. Police officers who had come to investigate Trenton were shot without warning.

Li’l Sixteen’s voice came through the earpiece. Chantelle smiled and pulled Daniel outside.

Daniel couldn’t stop staring at her sparkling eyes.

"Avoid the cops," Chantelle said to him, not knowing he had already talked to them.

Daniel stayed silent and walked beside her, taking down Trenton’s men whenever they showed up.

"Lord Trenton’s the type who’s easygoing one moment and cautious the next," Chantelle said. "He has a few old castles like this in Carcosa. This one’s probably the one he worked hard to build. There are traps everywhere. If you bring anyone with you, tell them to move after ten minutes."

As they kept walking, she heard Daniel on the phone, speaking in a cheerful tone. "Follow Mrs. Wilson’s orders. Move after ten minutes."

"Why did you say it was me?" Chantelle glared at him.

Daniel laughed. "I had to let them know Mrs. Wilson was worried about them."

"Mr. Wilson, can you be serious? This isn’t a joke." Since that kiss, Chantelle felt Daniel wasn’t taking things seriously. His tone and actions felt too playful.

"I’m very serious about you," Daniel said as he pulled her into his arms and spun her around a few times.

Darts flew towards them, but they avoided them in time.

"Is Lord Trenton still inside? Is there another way out?" Daniel asked, staring down the dark tunnel.

"According to the map Li’l Sixteen found, this tunnel leads to a big secret chamber. There’s an exit there," Chantelle replied.

"I guess he ran away when we came here," Daniel said, switching on his torch. The tunnel looked normal at first, but the patterns and colors of the tiles were all different. Something wasn’t right.

"Thirteen blocked the other exit. We’ll catch him for sure," Chantelle said with a smirk, thinking they’d finally get Trenton.

"Chantie, move ten steps forward," Li’l Sixteen said through her earpiece.

"Don’t just move. Stay with me," Chantelle told Daniel and she held his hand tightly.

Daniel nodded, liking how she looked after him. After they took ten steps, Li’l Sixteen gave the next instruction. "Press the bulging stone on the right."

The stone sank as soon as Chantelle pressed it. Right in front of them, the path dropped away into a deep cliff. Below it was pure darkness.

She tossed a stone down. It took a long time before they heard it hit the bottom.

The cliff was clearly very deep.

If they had taken one more step, they would’ve fallen.

Chantelle looked at Daniel with fear in her eyes. Thinking about how he had pushed her back during the red laser trap, she scolded him softly, "See? There are traps everywhere. Don’t just move on your own."

"My wife treats me like I’m Kane," Daniel said with a smile. Every time Chantelle looked back, his smile distracted her.

"Kane listens better than you," she said, blocking his face with her hand. "There are traps everywhere. If we’re not careful, we’ll die. Why are you still smiling?"

"I’m just happy being with my wife."

"Stop smiling," Chantelle scolded him and glared at him.

Daniel’s smile faded. While she turned to ask Li’l Sixteen about their next step, he leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "You’re still in love with me."

Chantelle’s heart pounded hard. She and Daniel looked at each other.

Li’l Sixteen’s voice broke the moment. "Take one step west, then two steps north. You’ll see several rows of raised stones. Press the fifth stone on the first row. Then press the fifth stone on the third row..."

Following the instructions, Chantelle managed to open a stone door. But beyond it, the tunnel continued. They still hadn’t reached Trenton’s secret chamber.

The two of them kept walking for over an hour. Finally, Li’l Sixteen told them they had arrived at the secret chamber.
