CHAPTER 405: CHAPTER 405: I’LL STAY BY YOUR SIDE

Soon after, Philip and the others left the room to give them some privacy.

Chantelle had been conscious the whole time they were talking about her condition, but she kept her eyes shut because she was too exhausted. She could feel Daniel pressing his lips against the back of her hand, and then something warm and wet fell onto her skin.

Her eyelashes trembled as she tried to open her eyes to look at him, but sleepiness took over, and she drifted off.

When she finally woke up later, Chantelle was drenched in sweat. Her body felt so hot it was as if she were trapped inside an oven. She reached out to push away the source of the heat and felt something warm and solid under her hand.

She slowly opened her eyes and found a broad chest right in front of her. When she looked up, she saw Daniel’s face and realized he was holding her in his arms.

Wait... he’s not wearing a shirt, and I don’t think I’m wearing anything either...

"Hey... wake up." Chantelle realized she had her voice back, but Daniel didn’t respond. She placed her hand on his forehead and felt the heat. He was burning with fever.

It seems both of our bodies have reached their limits because of the virus.

"It’s alright... I’ll stay by your side..." Daniel murmured softly before pulling her even closer.

Chantelle lightly patted Daniel’s cheek at first. When he still didn’t wake up, she tried her best to wriggle out of his arms. But even unconscious, he was stronger than her.

"Let me go. You have a fever. I need to get Philip to check on you."

Daniel’s expression softened slightly. Chantelle continued, "Just let me go. I won’t leave the room. I’ll put on some clothes and call Philip. You wouldn’t want me to be completely naked when he comes to examine you, right?"

"I need to watch over Chantelle... and make sure she’s fine," Daniel murmured faintly. The room was so quiet that Chantelle caught every word.

She stopped struggling and gently patted his back. "I’m right here. Don’t worry."

Finally, Daniel’s grip loosened. Chantelle carefully slipped out of his arms, quickly got dressed, and called Philip.

Philip gave Daniel a careful, thorough check-up. Then he said calmly, "We just need to bring down his temperature. The best way right now is to sponge his exposed skin with lukewarm water."

"Will that be enough? He’s still burning up," Chantelle said, worried that Daniel’s condition might get worse if it wasn’t handled properly.

Philip replied in a reassuring tone, "Don’t worry. Daniel’s always been healthy, except for his weak stomach. His fever is probably caused by gastritis. After you fainted, he skipped dinner to watch over you, and that likely triggered it. You should remind him to eat on time. It could turn into a serious problem if he keeps skipping meals."

Good thing I’m feeling better now. I can take care of Daniel myself. Otherwise, it would be nearly impossible to lower his fever since he hates anyone else touching him. Even unconscious, I’m sure he’d refuse.

Chantelle stayed up the whole night, using a towel soaked in lukewarm water to wipe Daniel’s body every now and then. His fever finally went down just before dawn. Feeling a bit relieved, she decided to rest for a while.

When morning came, Daniel slowly woke up. He moved his arms and realized Chantelle wasn’t beside him. He sat up quickly and saw her asleep in a chair next to the bed. Then his eyes fell on the small bucket of water and the towel on the bedside table, and he understood what she had done for him through the night.

Daniel got out of bed quietly and tried to move her to the bed, but she woke up the moment he lifted her.

"Get some sleep in the bed. I’ll go downstairs and make breakfast," Daniel said in a hoarse voice.

Chantelle reached out and placed her hand on his forehead. He still had a slight fever.

"Put me down."

Daniel gently lowered Chantelle and helped her stand.

Chantelle yawned and turned toward the door. "You should lie down and rest."

Daniel caught her wrist. "Where are you going?"

"I’m going to make some porridge," she said, sounding annoyed. She was still upset that Daniel had skipped his meal and made himself sick.

"The servants can handle that. You need to rest. I can see the dark circles under your eyes," Daniel said, refusing to let her go.

In the end, the two of them lay side by side in bed. Daniel used the intercom to tell the servants to prepare breakfast, then called Philip to ask him to look after the kids and make sure they didn’t disturb Chantelle’s rest.

Philip found all three children waiting quietly outside Chantelle’s room. They had heard their parents were sick and had been there for a while. Kane pouted and asked, "Are Daddy and Mommy really okay?"

"Of course! Your mommy just needs a bit more sleep. She’s still a little tired," Philip replied with a smile before leading them to the dining room for breakfast.

Railer sat at the table and looked out the window. He seemed distracted, and he occasionally scanned the garden to look for the woman who had talked to him yesterday, but she was nowhere to be seen.

"Rai, do you remember what I told you last night? When Mommy wakes up, you have to do exactly what I said, okay?" Kane leaned closer and talked to him seriously.

Railer looked troubled. Then he said slowly, "I don’t know how to do it."

"What’s so hard about it? How do you still not get it?" Kane asked, clearly confused.

He had always thought Railer was the smartest among the three of them, but no matter how much he tried to teach him, Railer just couldn’t seem to get it.

"Don’t listen to his nonsense. Mommy said everyone’s special. It’d be strange if two people were exactly the same." Stephanie had been listening to Kane trying to teach Railer how to talk in a cute way all morning, and she was getting tired of it.

She gently pushed Kane back into his seat to stop him from nagging Railer.

While the siblings kept bickering in the living room, Chantelle and Daniel were having a serious talk in their room.

"You’ve probably realized by now that the next time we take the medication, there’s a high risk of death." Daniel lay still in bed as he said this. He didn’t even try to hold Chantelle’s hand.
