CHAPTER 407: CHAPTER 407: THE VAST PRIVATE ISLAND

Meanwhile, Philip felt goosebumps all over his back.

"Hey, could you tone it down a bit? I think the ants are coming because it’s getting too sweet in here," Philip grumbled in dissatisfaction.

Daniel shot him a cold glare. "You can get off the helicopter here if it bothers you that much."

Philip leaned toward the window and saw the vast ocean stretching out below them. He straightened up slowly and decided to shut his mouth.

A few minutes later, the helicopter landed smoothly on the island.

Kane was the first to jump out. He grabbed Railer and Stephanie’s hands and ran off excitedly into the distance.

Daniel gave his butler a brief look. The butler immediately understood and hurried after the kids with a few other servants following behind.

Then, Daniel stepped out of the helicopter and reached his hand out to Chantelle. He held her hand firmly and reminded her to watch her step.

Philip couldn’t stand watching the two of them. He tried to hold Russell’s hand, but Russell immediately slapped it away.

"What’s with you being so clingy?" Russell glared at him.

"How is that clingy? I just wanted to hold your hand because I was worried you might trip and fall," Philip argued.

"I’m not going to trip and fall from this height!" Russell shot back.

"Fine. I tried to hold your hand because I love you, okay? Russell, just let me hold your hand for a bit. Please!"

Russell quickly walked toward a nearby villa, and Philip hurried after him. Alexander shook his head lightly and followed behind them.

Chantelle’s face turned bright red after hearing Philip’s words. She tried to pull her hand away, but Daniel held it tightly.

"The island’s quite big. You might get lost if you wander around alone," Daniel warned her.

"Why would I get lost when the villa is right there?" Chantelle replied.

Daniel grinned widely like a naughty boy. "In that case, let’s take a walk together."

"Huh?!" Chantelle didn’t even have the chance to refuse as Daniel swiftly pulled her in a completely different direction.

Oh well. I don’t know when I might have another attack or when I’ll need to leave this island. I might as well take this chance to look around while I can.

"I bought this island six years ago," Daniel said suddenly as they walked side by side. "I was planning to give it to you as a birthday present. But in the end, I never told you because of my pride."

Chantelle’s heart skipped a beat. Still, she said, "I’m not going to be fooled by your words that easily."

"I knew you wouldn’t believe me."

Just then, they stopped in front of a large stone slab.

There were words carved into the stone. From the look of it, both the stone and the carvings had been there for years.

Chantelle walked closer and read the engraving carefully. A date and a short message were deeply carved on it. "For Chantelle. 19th June 2017."

"Why didn’t you tell me about this?" she asked after staring at the stone for a while. Then, she lifted her eyes and looked directly into Daniel’s eyes.

Daniel paused for a moment, remembering that day. "When I got home after buying the island, you were arguing with Kate. She came to me in tears, begging me not to punish you. When I saw the broken ceramic pieces on the floor, I told you to go back to your room. Then, you said a lot of harsh things to me and ignored me completely after that."

Chantelle also remembered what had happened back then.

I was hoping he’d remember my birthday that year. I didn’t expect him to celebrate with me, but I waited all day for his call. Yet, there’s no single word that came from him.

Instead, Kate showed up at the house, saying she was there to celebrate my birthday. Then, she broke several of Daniel’s favorite antique vases and blamed me when he came home. She said I got angry and smashed them because he forgot my birthday.

Chantelle remembered the cold look in Daniel’s eyes when he saw Kate crying. At that moment, she was convinced he believed Kate’s story, and he took her side again.

After that, she refused to explain herself out of pride. Still, her heart ached when Daniel shouted at her and told her to go back to her room.

"Why did you ignore me back then?" Daniel asked and was still confused as to why she had reacted that way.

Chantelle curled her lips. "Did you forget how much you hated me then? You always used Kate to get under my skin. Of course, I thought you believed her when she said I broke those antique vases. You weren’t even home on my birthday, and when you came back, you yelled at me because of her! Was it wrong for me to be angry?"

Chantelle’s anger flared up again, and she glared sharply at Daniel.

Daniel gave a small cough and quickly explained, "I didn’t care about the vases back then. I wouldn’t have scolded or punished you even if you’d broken them. I only told you to go back to your room because I was worried you might hurt yourself on the broken pieces. I remember you had a cut on your palm from holding a shard."

After hearing him, Chantelle stared into his eyes for a long time to see if he really meant it. To her surprise, she found no doubt there.

"There was a time you cleaned the study and accidentally knocked down a rack, and broke all the antiques on it. Did I say anything about that?" he asked.

I hadn’t thought much about all those past things. Now that we’ve talked, I realize we probably have a lot of misunderstandings because of Kate’s schemes.

I really want to tear that woman apart again!

"It’s true you didn’t say anything that day, but I thought I was going to die in bed that night!" Chantelle remembered it as if it had happened yesterday.

Back then, she believed Daniel hated her and that he was punishing her every time they spent the night together.

It felt like he had endless energy, and he wouldn’t stop until she cried and begged him.

"You thought I was punishing you every time we did it? Was I really that bad?" Daniel was stunned.

No wonder she looked terrified whenever I tried to get close to her.

I’m not really that bad in bed, right?
