Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 419: To Test Daddy’s Loyalty
CHAPTER 419: CHAPTER 419: TO TEST DADDY’S LOYALTY
When Chantelle saw Kane’s eyes darting around, she knew he had been up to something. "What did you just do?" she asked sharply.
She couldn’t understand how those two women had suddenly shown up when bodyguards were stationed all over the yacht. There was no way Daniel’s men would have let them on the yacht just because they were attracted to them.
Chantelle finally understood what was going on after seeing Kane’s behavior.
"It’s my fault, Mommy," Kane admitted. "I told them to do it. I thought you and Daddy might need a little push to take your relationship to the next level. But Mommy, see? I was right. Daddy didn’t even look at those two women."
As he said it, Kane tightly held his bottom nervously.
"Mommy, I just wanted to test Daddy’s loyalty to you! Please appreciate how hard I tried!"
And once again, chaos erupted on the deck as Kane bolted away while Chantelle was chasing him.
Chantelle was worried Kane might run too fast and hurt himself, so she decided to wait until they got back to deal with him.
Kane giggled and hid behind Daniel, clutching a small packet of powder hidden inside the pocket on his chest.
Railer stood off to the side, looking guilty. He winked at Kane and gave him a thumbs-up, while Stephanie didn’t seem to care at all.
After all, Kane had been mischievous like a monkey since he was a child. She was already used to it.
The yacht finally reached the island without any trouble. Chantelle was exhausted, and when they disembarked, Daniel simply carried her off the yacht, which made Linda feel jealous.
"Ms. Linda, please come with me," Russell said, stepping in front of her. His sharp eyes seemed to see right through her thoughts.
Linda’s face turned red, and she quickly lowered her head in embarrassment.
Chantelle had been asleep since they got back. Daniel and the children stayed by her side the whole time.
"Oh? You’re awake?" Daniel said when he saw her move. He handed her a glass of water.
After taking a few sips, Chantelle felt more alert. "Did you find out who’s behind her?" she asked about Quinn.
Daniel shook his head. "Quinn refused to talk. We lost all our leads."
Chantelle was surprised that even Daniel couldn’t make Quinn speak.
"Linda mentioned Fred that day. Who do you think he is?" Chantelle asked.
"Don’t worry about it. I’ll handle everything, and I promise I won’t let anything happen to the children," Daniel said before ordering lunch to be served.
Chantelle could tell Daniel was hiding something, but she didn’t want to push him if he wasn’t ready to talk.
The noise woke Kane up. He threw his arms around Chantelle and cried, "Mommy! I won’t make you angry again!"
"You’ve said that so many times before. Have you ever really kept your promise?" Chantelle asked, wanting to teach him a lesson.
"Mommy, I swear I won’t touch the computer again until we get home. If I do, I’ll stay with Grandmaster and eat only vegetables," Kane said.
Chantelle couldn’t help but smile. Grandmaster adored Kane and often wanted to teach him things, but Kane was terrified of him. Since Grandmaster was a vegetarian, Kane had to eat vegetables whenever he was with him. For a boy who loved meat, it was pure torture. It showed how really sorry he was.
"Alright then. You’ll write a two-thousand-word reflection," Chantelle said, deciding to give him a chance.
Kane’s eyes widened. He was only five and barely knew two thousand words. But Chantelle didn’t change her mind. She gave him two options: write the reflection or eat only the fish he caught until they got home.
Kane chose to write the reflection.
"Linda wanted to take care of you," Daniel said suddenly after the children left.
Chantelle knew he had turned Linda down, but there had to be another reason he mentioned it now.
Daniel leaned closer and whispered something in her ear. She nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile, Linda panicked. When she heard Chantelle was sick, she offered to take care of her, but the bodyguards blocked her way. She started to worry that everyone’s attention would be on Chantelle and no one would care about her anymore. If that happened, she was afraid she’d be sent back to her father and brother.
Determined to change her fate, Linda decided to act on her own. She knew Daniel only had eyes for Chantelle, so she turned her attention to Philip. She had noticed him giving orders to the bodyguards and realized he held some power.
Linda went to the kitchen and cooked a variety of delicious dishes for Philip. Since Philip was a glutton, he happily accepted the food.
That evening, Philip was playing an online game with Thea when she suddenly yelled at him for not moving his character.
"Hold on, let me finish the pasta first," Philip mumbled.
Thea immediately sensed something was wrong. Even though he loved food, Philip never ate while gaming. He only ate when someone fed him, just like she used to when they were in Easthan.
Could it be Russell? Thea chuckled at her absurd thought.
Then, Thea heard a soft, gentle female voice through her headphones. "Eat slowly. The pasta is still hot."
Thea smirked. "Alright, enjoy your meal." She turned off her microphone and started fighting fiercely in the game.
"Damn!" Philip cursed, quickly setting the pasta aside before joining the battle.
After that night, Philip couldn’t reach Thea anymore. Worried, he asked Chantelle if she knew why Thea was ignoring him.
Chantelle called Thea and put her phone on speaker mode.
"Hello?"
Philip couldn’t hold back when he heard Thea’s voice. "Thea! Why did you block my number? I couldn’t reach you on the phone or Instagram. What did I do to deserve this?" he asked anxiously.
There was a long silence.
"Anything important you wanna ask?" Thea asked coldly.
"Nothing in particular," Philip stammered.
"Then why did you call me?" Thea asked.
"Can’t I call you even if I don’t have anything specific to say?" Philip asked, confused. He had never needed a reason to call Thea before.
"I’m busy. Bye!" Thea hung up the call before he could respond.
"Do you want me to explain things to her?" Chantelle offered.
Philip waved his hand. "Nah, she’ll come to her senses in two days. You guys owe me big this time," he said.
"What do you want?" Daniel asked, raising his brows.
