CHAPTER 422: CHAPTER 422: THEY RAN AWAY

After hanging up on Daniel, Chantelle heard from Calvin that Quinn had entered a gated community. No one could enter without a residence card.

Chantelle remembered her conversation with Kane about the hacker he and Railer had met earlier. She immediately called Jacob and told him about the situation.

She promised Jacob a large reward if he helped her, and he quickly hacked into the community’s security system.

Thanks to him, Chantelle and her team were able to enter without needing an access card.

Chantelle left her men outside the community and entered with only Calvin to avoid drawing suspicion.

When they reached the elevator, she looked at Calvin to see if he knew which floor they were supposed to go to. He nodded, walked into the elevator, and pressed the button for the 25th floor.

They had placed a tracking device on Quinn, and the geo-tracker was advanced enough to pinpoint her exact location.

Quinn was on the 26th floor, but Chantelle and Calvin decided to get off on the 25th floor and take the stairs for safety.

While on the way, Jacob sent Chantelle the blueprint of the 26th floor. From it, she saw that Quinn was inside an apartment of about three hundred square meters.

An apartment that size in this area was definitely expensive.

Looking at the blueprint, Chantelle was sure of one thing, that the person behind Quinn was wealthy.

But if it wasn’t about money, did that mean the culprit had a personal grudge against her?

When they arrived, Chantelle saw four men in black standing outside the residence. They were big and armed. Confronting them directly wasn’t an option.

Chantelle led Calvin back into the stairwell and planned to wait until the mastermind showed himself.

Half an hour later, an alarm started blaring in the building.

"It’s the fire alarm," Calvin said in an alert tone.

Chantelle stared at the door. If the building really was on fire, the smoke might force those men to come out.

"Ms. Bently, we need to leave now." Footsteps echoed from upstairs. The door opened, but only the armed security men came out of the apartment.

The armed men scanned the area cautiously and began moving toward Chantelle and Calvin.

They were outnumbered, and a direct confrontation would be difficult.

"There are only two of them. Take them down, and we’ll use their clothes to sneak inside," Chantelle said, making a bold decision.

Calvin had always followed her orders. Though he hesitated for a moment, he didn’t argue with her. He quickly prepared himself for the fight.

Chantelle had underestimated the armed men’s strength. Even though she and Calvin launched a surprise attack and used advanced weapons to gain an advantage, they were soon overpowered by sheer force.

The two armed men, both nearly two meters tall, cornered them. To make matters worse, the noise drew more security guards to the area.

Chantelle bit her lip in frustration, ready to fight to the death. But before she could move, Calvin stood in front of her, using his own body to block the attackers.

"Go!" Calvin shouted.

Without a second thought, Chantelle leaped out of the window. Then, a metal hook shot forward instantly and latched onto the wall, holding her in midair.

Calvin’s defense didn’t last long. One armed man appeared at the window soon after Chantelle jumped out, and he pulled out a dagger to cut the rope.

Chantelle glanced around quickly, but all she saw were bare walls. Despair crept into her heart as there was nowhere she could land.

Her eyes stared at the dagger in the man’s hand. She prayed it was just an ordinary knife that couldn’t slice her specially made rope. At the same time, she was calculating if she could swing toward the nearby window and crash inside before the rope was totally cut.

The chance of that happening was slim, so she placed her hope on the knife being useless. If she had enough time, she could still make it safely to the ground.

However, things didn’t go her way. The dagger wasn’t ordinary, and the armed man was only inches away from cutting the rope in half.

Chantelle swung with the wind and crashed hard against the wall.

She shut her eyes in despair, and just as the armed man raised his dagger to finally cut the last strand of the rope, she saw a familiar face behind him. She finally felt relieved.

The armed man vanished from the window a moment later, and Daniel’s grim face appeared in his place.

"Hold still. Don’t move." Daniel secured a rope and quickly slid down to her. With swift movements, he tied it around her waist.

"Why are you here?" Chantelle asked. For some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to look back into his cold eyes.

Daniel didn’t answer her. He just looked stern and ordered his men to pull Chantelle up.

Once she landed on the 26th floor, Chantelle went straight to check on Calvin. He had taken a bad beating, so she had to send him to the hospital as soon as possible.

As she turned back, she noticed the apartment door was wide open. The armed men who had been standing outside were gone. The only one beside Daniel now was Ashton, who had been missing for a while.

Chantelle frowned in confusion. There had been a few people chasing after her when she jumped out the window.

Did they not run into Daniel?

Did Daniel and Ashton really drive the two remaining armed men away? Those men were skilled fighters. How did Daniel and Ashton deal with them so fast? They didn’t even look like they’d been in a fight.

Chantelle turned to Ashton and asked, "Where are the people inside the apartment?"

With a calm, unreadable expression, Ashton replied, "They ran away."

Chantelle lifted Calvin and stopped for a moment. She looked back at Daniel, who was still burning with anger, and gave him a small nod without saying a word.

"Ms. Bently, let’s go back to the lab," Calvin said weakly, barely able to stand.

Since the laboratory had everything they needed, it was the best place to cure Calvin’s injury. Chantelle agreed to the idea.

On the way back, she suddenly thought of the kids and asked, "Where are the kids?"

Daniel didn’t answer. His expression alone showed his irritation. Chantelle then turned to Ashton, and he replied, "Mr. Wilson had the children brought to the laboratory."

The rest of the ride was silent. Daniel sat there with a dark, brooding look, as if the whole world owed him something.

When they reached the laboratory, Chantelle stepped out of the car and said, "Thank you for the help."

"Sure." Daniel looked at her, waiting for her to say more, but Chantelle turned around and walked away.
